Buzz Williams to Virginia Tech
Well that's out of the blue.

Is thus the rumor we've been hashing over in a separate thread, or is this confirmed somewhere?

I wonder how much of it about wanting out due to a bad working relationship with the AD/School? The AD and school president have both resigned in the past year.
VT is very much a lateral move (or step down) from Marquette, even now.

Yeah, it's gonna be a fun few hours or so on the Tweeterz if you're a Big East fan.
Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 2m
Buzz Williams left Marquette for a variety of reasons, sources told ESPN. One of the biggest was new league/new TV package.
Gary Parrish @garyparrishcbs 2m
Folks keep asking “Why Virginia Tech?” Here’s the answer: Buzz basically decided to take the best job he could get right now, period.

Apparently Howland wants in at Marquette. If they could get Pitt Howland and not UCLA Howland, would probably be a step up for them anyways.

I don't buy that, going to Virginia Tech is not an upgrade over Marquette. Where is he going to go from there? He is going to be scrapping to get a bid every year.

Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 2m Buzz Williams left Marquette for a variety of reasons, sources told ESPN. One of the biggest was new league/new TV package. That sounds like a classic ESPN ploy to take a shot at our new conference/channel. Anyway, Marquette has had success under other coaches in the past, so it will be interesting to see who they hire to replace Buzz. Ben Howland on the early list of candidates, would be a return to the Big East for him.

To a worse program that probably will get less nationally televised games?

He sees the writing on the wall for the Big East.

Yeah this is an odd choice for him. Was he that unhappy with the situation at Marquette?

He sees the writing on the wall for the Big East. More realistically for himself at Marquette. Finish 6th in a conference you were supposed to win doesn't exactly reek of thinking you are above the situation. I think Buzz hit his peak at Marquette and realized it, he has never coached anywhere longer than 4 years. This probably shouldn't be a surprise.

What a joke, did Goodman really just try to pass off the fact that Marquette does not play on ESPN as the reason Buzz left? Buzz will get MUCH less TV time in the ACC. Who cares about V Tech bball?

Not the only source implying the Big East uncertainty had something to do with it, among several things.

Big East uncertainty is one thing, but to actually take a shot at FS1 seems a little ridiculous. Big East is currently getting destroyed everywhere I look in fan perception. Honestly, I am getting a little nervous about this. I have tried to be positive but when you read the responses from the general public the league is not respected at all. Hopefully the we are being proactive to make sure we still remain relevant.
