Posters on this board told me Ben Howland had a bad reputation and baggage since UCLA, if this is the case is.... Why are people clamoring for Ben Howland to get the Marquette job?? Because we want Marquette to be good. Maybe even very good on occasion. But definitely not great.

I had not heard of any internal investigations at Marquette concerning the basketball program before reading that on this board. I think it is telling that the Marquette board doesn't appear to be overly upset at Buzz's sudden abdication. There were apparently enough negative issues for Buzz to encourage him to look elsewhere. If MU can get Howland, this will work out very well for them.
Bottom line: If Warrior fans are not upset with Buzz leaving, why should we be?

The BE no longer gets any good coverage from ESPN, now that they are lined up with FOX VPI has big state funding for practice facilities and big alumni boosters and Marquette is almost a little sister of the poor. They couldn't build him any facilities, we didn't want to wait 20 years to get things built. Sound familiar?

Sidenote: I'm very happy that we don't have to watch his antics every game. I wonder how many T's he gets when playing against relevant teams in the ACC.

From all reports he seems to be getting a massive pay cut. So less money, smaller ceiling, and far more working against him. Brilliant move, assuming it was totally his decision.

Buzz was going to get fired. He had to act quickly and take whatever he could before this years crop of tournament darling coaches finished their runs and became available.

Why would Buzz be fired? He was extremely successful there. I suppose there might have been some behind the scenes stuff going on, but that sort of seems like sour grapes from Marquette fans.

He sees the writing on the wall for the Big East. Yeah, the Big East is dead, done, over, embarrassing, a national home. We are not giving any time for a reconfigured conference to get its bearings, develop its own identity. Having 40% of its teams in the NCAA's, including a 2 and a 3. Having some of the strongest recruiting classes coming in. You seriously need to find a prescription for some happy pills, POD - it has been weeks since you had a post that was not doom and gloom. Would you rather us be in the ACC or the Big East? I'd rather us be in the ACC than a ragtag conference of schools like Xavier, Butler and DePaul.

Said it befor and will say it again: We picked a really bad time to have a bad season. This new league needed us to be very relevant in its first season and we failed it.

During the summer we seriously need to come up with the definitive list of which Big East teams we "really need to be good" for the sake of the conference, and which teams can be terrible and we don't care.

For what it is worth, the Big East does have a better RPI, but I think the ACC has a better BPI.

We wouldn't be able to secure a good TV deal? Wouldn't be able to get a good recruiting class? Wouldn't be able to retain JTIII? Or even worse... lose Buzz Williams?!!? If only we has been better, Buzz would've stayed!!! Look, I miss the old BE, but fans really need to sac up

Georgetown needs to be good. That's all I care about. I don't care what conference we are in, what network our games are on, who else in our conference makes the tournament, etc..
No one at Marquette is worried about us, so I'm not worried about them. Call it short-sighted all you want, but if we're good, nothing else matters. Not if Rick Pitino is coaching another team in our conference, if we ever play Syracuse again, if Jay Bilas gets a tattoo on his forehead that the Big East doesn't exist and all of this other nonsense people on here freak out about as if it has anything to do with how JTIII goes about making sure Georgetown hangs a national championship banner. Argue all you want, but as a fanbase, I wish we'd just stop wallowing in our own self pity about things that shouldn't matter to us.
Marquette is a good job, they should get a good coach. If they don't, I don't care.

The ACC doesn't have ragtag teams? Has a whole lot more cache than the "new Big East".
