That's what scares me. To go often unmentioned in the AAU season before your senior year is just not good. To further your point--he didn't have a very good JR season in HS either. All based on potential right now--but pulling for the kid to figure it out and flourish.

Seriously the month of July is brutal for these coaches. Feel sorry for a guy like III being on the road for about a month in order to be seated courtside in a good enough seat for the recruits to see him watching them. I love hoops but not that much.

Seriously the month of July is brutal for these coaches. Feel sorry for a guy like III being on the road for about a month in order to be seated courtside in a good enough seat for the recruits to see him watching them. I love hoops but not that much. It's 18 days in the month. They get paid (well the major conference guys) 7 figures to watch/recruit and then develop/coach players. If that's hard--then try working like most people everyday and not getting paid 7 figures. I'll be honest--attending events, I have no idea how these guys fail to see talent (well I do--as so many ignore the games and play footsie with fellow coaches or text the entire game), or enjoy it. If you LOVE the game--you love this time of year--it's when you can learn about players, find players, and create a list of who you want--so you have a deeper pool of options. Now you can push hard on who you want to close on--and they make a lot of the events short for travel--going from NJ/Ohio/Indianapolis/KY to Milwaukee/MPLS/Chicago or Ga/SC or Vegas/Orlando circuit--if you are organized and have a great staff--it's divided up correctly and you can build your program. When you see certain schools assistants and Head Coaches not paying attention, you see why they are bad programs. The programs that win are the most active and have people who actually pay attention to the games.

Watched the 16U AAU title game and I'll reiterate, I'd give my left arm for Nerlens Noel.
Bee Jay Anya finished with 2 points and was outplayed by Andrew Chrabascz. It was funny listening to Oscar Robertson call out Anya twice during the telecast for allowing Chrabascz to blow past him for a layup and for not hitting the floor for a loose ball that Chrabascz came up late in the game.
If you watched the game, you'd have no idea you were supposedly watching the top two centers in the '13 class go against each other. Noel looked like a phenom. Anya ...

Have Calhoun, Calipari, K, Roy Williams, Self and other prominent coaches been on hand to watch these players?

Yes Ed they do and for all the crap I tease about Calipari, I personally saw the guy come into MPLS for 1 game to watch Kaleb Tarczewski and by the following morning--he was back at Peach Jam. He also didn't play grab ass with other coaches-he came to the game, got in front row, watched the kid play, and left to catch his flight. Compare that to other coaches there who were having a "lovefest" with each other--Doug West and Matt Doherty spent an entire day talking to each other and not moving from their seat. I showed up at 10 am and by 11 pm they were in same spot and even had someone bring them food. It was pathetic.

not exactly on or off topic, but did you guys see this news: 07:50 AM ET 07.29 | Kentucky may have the best players in college basketball on its campus this fall -- as in professional players. Kentucky coach John Calipari tweeted on Thursday night that three NBA point guards who played for Kentucky will head back to Lexington if the lockout continues. "John Wall, Rajon Rondo & Eric Bledsoe all plan to enroll in the fall if the lockout continues," Calipari tweeted. "Kaboom!" Kaboom, indeed. KentuckySportsRadio.com reported that the move could allow the trio -- point guards for the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers, respectively -- to get some court time in with the current Wildcats. ... "What does that mean? Well, Wall, Bledsoe and Rondo are all eligible to be "Student Assistant coaches", which means practice with the team." Is that true? That would be a real shame if Jeff and Greg had to take classes this fall and tutor all of our horses in the front court.

Good point, Biff, since both seem committed to finishing their degrees at Georgetown.

Birds of a feather? www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/shark-bytes/2011/aug/02/shabazz-muhammad-tark-blog-0802/Tark's blog: He’s got the total package, and every coach I talk to speaks highly of him. I’ve seen him play three times, twice last year and last week during the adidas Super 64 tournament at Rancho High School. It was such a great environment at Rancho, and Shabazz really put on a show. I went with coaches John Calipari of Kentucky and Bob Huggins of West Virginia, and afterward we went to dinner at Piero’s.

Hoyas Offered DeMarquise "Que" Johnson today. He's a 6'5 SG who can fill it up on anyone and was very impressive this evaluation period. Saw him last Summer as a JR and he was a beast. Played for same AAU team as Kahwi Leonard of San Diego State and very impressed with their style of team ball in AAU. He switched this year and roamed around-but he's a guy who is worth monitoring.
