Regarding Nike EYBL LA: Tyrone Johnson, Team Final (6-2, 2011) PG Tyrone had tremendous pace to his game this morning vs. Baltimore Elite. While I was hoping to see him go head to head with Aquille Carr, Aquille decided to take his game to Team Melo. Regardless, Tyrone played smart basketball and ran his team with great efficiency. He understands that he plays with outstanding talent and knows that his role is to be steady with the basketball and deliver it to his teammates in a position to be successful. On day one, mission accomplished. Also of note: Probably going to Montrose next year. www.flagrantfouls.com/2010/05/tyrone-johnson-leaning-towards-montrose/

In Telep article from NBPA camp, Johnson said Villanova, Georgetown and Rutgers are "on him strong" while others on his list are West Virginia, UCONN, Kansas, Miami, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State.

I'd be shocked if he weren't a Hoya or a Wildcat.

From ESPN report on Deron Williams Camp: Tyrone Johnson 2011 PG, 6-3, 185 Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield He is a big, strong and athletic point guard who is very productive. He can see over the defense to find open teammates and has solid vision. Johnson is improving his pick-and-roll play by reading the defender before making the correct play. He uses his size to get into the lane and score over the top of the defense. Plus, he is a good shooter with range to 19 feet, but is average beyond the arc. Johnson has a good basketball IQ and seems to understand when to score and pass. Defensively, his versatility, size and strength could give smaller point guards trouble. He is big enough to even defend shooting guards and small forwards. sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=5330862

A taller, more controlled Chris Wright. He really absorbs contact.

A taller, more controlled Chris Wright. He really absorbs contact. fair but Chris Wright's speed/quickness is probably the best in college basketball.

he's not faster than Kemba, but he's way more explosive to the bucket. And he shoots it better. Kemba's not a better player than Chris

Kemba's end to end speed is nba elite level....the rest of his game hasn't nearly caught up, though, which is why he's still in college....Chris has better halfcourt speed and quickness for those who know the difference...Both guys need to improve their passing...and for as much speed as Kemba has, he should be a much better defender

Scout's Scott Phillips from Nike Skills Academy:
"Tyrone Johnson, PG – Johnson showed very well in the one-on-one drills of the Deron Williams Skills Academy, using his size and strength to get inside on smaller guards while using his handles and pull-up jumper to go at guys that were a similar size. Getting to the rim has always been his strength, but it was nice to see Johnson use some jumpers to finish off opponents as well."

Time to take one away from the Cats (or if he wants to go to Rutgers, lord help the young man).

I was criticized by some a few weeks ago for wondering aloud on the board whether our assistant coach's defection to Rutgers could impact our ability to land Ty. It appears that Rutgers is legitimately in the running. I think I am owed an apology and remuneration, perhaps in the form of a foot massage or a bag of fruity delicious skittles.

This could be done soon...his AAU coach told Scout that:
"Johnson wants to decide on his terms and isn’t going to wait around long. “He’s mulling it over,” Bobbitt said. “He’s looking at the pros and cons of each school.
“A decision should be coming soon. I don’t want to put a timetable on it but maybe within a week or two. It’ll be before Peach Jam or maybe LeBron.”

I like that the decision is coming soon...if he chooses to go to Montrose, I wouldn't like our chances if he was making his decision after starting his senior year.

WVU is also in the mix.
I liked it a lot more when it was just Georgetown and Villanova.
