Thought I'd start a new thread for this.
The women will Host Uconn on Sunday in the Quarter Finals of the Big East Tournament.
The women finished the Season with a 13-3-2 record Good for 2nd place in the National Division. Uconn finished 3rd in the American division. Uconn's record is 6-8-5
The Men still have a week to go. If things stay the same they will travel to USF for the quarter finals. If they pass Uconn they will play Depaul at home. If they pass ND and Uconn they will await the winner of louisville rutgers. But a lot can happen in these last two games. There's still a chance for the men to miss the BE all together. although very unlikely.( would have to lose both games and have several other teams win both games.)
Important things for now are to Come Cheer on the Men on senior day on saturday.
Then cheer on the women on Sunday in the BET quarters both games are at 1.

Uconn tied Pitt 2-2 today which opens the door for the Hoyas. If the Hoyas win out they will win the Division, no matter what anyone else does.

Hoyas (men) lost 2-1 today vs. Notre Dame. Bummer, but not unexpected. HSB or someone else can correct me but UConn has a two point lead over us correct? So there is a chance that we can still pass them in the standings? We seem to matchup poorly against USF so I'd rather we not have to travel down to Tampa again for the BET EDIT: I just looked it up and we are 2 points behind UConn but while we end the season at home against Marquette, the worst team in the Blue Division, they end the season at home against Seton Hall, the second worst team in the Blue Division. So a Hoya win and a Huskies loss is unlikely but still possible

I'd have to check all the tie breakers. If we win and they tie we'll be tied on points and since we tied head to head it'd go to the next tie breaker and I don't know what that is.
Soccer is a crazy sport so expect the unexpected. If we can get second that'd be great.
I mistakenly assumed that the mens tournament was the same as the women's which of course it is not. Securing second place would actually save us from playing a game. so actually second or third we will host. If third we will host the 6th place team from the other division currently cincinatti and then if we won we'd play at the #2 of the other division.
If second we will host the winner of the 3rd place from the other division vs the 6th place team from our division.

The Men Defeated Marquette 4-2. The game winning goal was scored by #22 of Marquette as he blasted a Hoya Corner Kick into the back of his own net.
Because Conneticuit won last night over seton hall the Hoyas have to settle for third place and will host the 6th seed from the red division who is still to be determined. but will be either cincinatti or Rutgers. I believe Syracuse might have an outside chance but i don't know how tie breakers work.
A win would set up a rematch at USF.

Very frustrating loss to UConn today 1-2.
Very similar to the ND game: the Hoyas got the early lead only to get outhustled by much faster players. The women should still be a safe bid to the NCAA's but this will hurt seeding.

guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/110308aag.htmlInterview with coach wiese from topdrawersoccer. Men play their opening round Big East game this week. GUHOYAS says it will be played thursday at 2pm It will most likely be against Cincinatti unless rutgers beats st. john's tonight. On the one hand it might be best if rutgers wins so that they play us on short rest.

The Men Defeated Cincinatti 3-1 today! They went down early 1-0 but rallied back and scored 3 goals in a ten minute period. The Hoyas will more on to face the #2 seed of the Red division South Florida. South Florida is ranked 16th in the latest NSCAA poll. The hoyas lost a tough 2-1 game to the bulls earlier in the season.

Georgetown Loses 2-1 just like earlier in the season this time the hoyas went down 2-0 before climbing back whereas last time they squandered a 1-0 lead.
Mark wilbur played in goal. David Madison scored his first collegiate goal.
Hoyas still have a good chance to make the NCAA's for the first time since 1997.

Too bad. Any chance the Hoyas would play at home, or close to it, during the tourny?

No not a chance of a home game for the men ( however, like in lacrosse i beleive they try and make the distances as easy as possible for people so we could be playign somewhere driveable.) The Women however do have a chance of a home game but we shall see. I think the women's tournament selection may be tomorrow and then the men's is the following monday.

The NCAA is very funny in their seeding and awarding home games. The Univeristy of Portland women's team has gotten no respect from the NCAA in this area. You would think that a team that has won the national title two out of the last five years would merit this respect, but UP was rankded about 3 or 4 in the nation last year, but didn't get one of the top four seeds. That ruined their chances of getting all home games (they lead the NCAA in average attendance). So you can never know what the NCAA will do.

Well I've been on some soccer message boards this morning and the news is not good. Apparently the Women's RPI ( apox 70) is going to most likely keep them out of the NCAA's. Apparently there were a bunch of upsets in conference tournaments and our weak OOC schedule have the Hoyas on the outside looking in. Apparently the top drawer poll i've been following was not including all the smaller conference at large bids. I suppose one never knows but if this is done the same way as basketball I can't see a team with an RPI of 70 get an at large bid.
The bracket will be revealed tonight at 8pm on ESPNnews but don't expect the hoyas name to be called.
Not sure about the men's chances but they actually seem better than the women's since their RPI is in the 40's range. Their bracket won't be revealed until next monday.

I think the women still have a shot to get in. Granted their rpi is low but they did finish 2nd on their side of the Big East conference. Can you take teams like Rutgers and Louisville who have better RPI but lost head to head to the Hoyas and finished behind them in the conference standings? Rutgers probably but Louisville no way. Can you take a UConn team that had a below .500 regular season record? I don't think so. I think it comes down to Marquette or Georgetown for the final Big East bid.
