No, but as a side note according to that list there are 12 (!) graduating seniors from New Trier high school (IL) that are getting D1 scholarships next year. That is mind boggling.

Jim Nealis is a stud - played in the town where I grew up. His HS came up short this season states only b/c the best team in the nation played in the neighboring county.
From what I understand he's a good kid as well.

Soccer America ranked the incoming Hoya class 14th in the nation.

AD resigns. Wonder if this is going to affect the progam going forward, ie funding. There's been + progression the pgm since Muir came on board.

I would think the the new permanent AD would evaluate the more marginal programs--soccer seems to be improving and have a chance to be nationally relevant--
If it were me I guess I'd take a look at baseball/softball/football/women's volleyball/field hockey/golf/tennis--I wouldn't necessarily cut them, I might actually put more resources agaist some depending on the current situation + potential. Most elite colleges look at their sports commitments in terms of some combination of measures using $/competitiveness-significance/alumni support/academic cost to admitting marginal students. I think most people on the board forget about the academic cost aspect to various sports when discussing the costs + benefits of various programs.

Softball is improving incredibly quickly, women's volleyball is on the rise...the rest of the programs are the stagnant ones.

What you say is certainly true re: those two programs , but I'm not sure that they are ever going to be in a position to occasionally compete for a national champ or even go deep in their respective NCAA tourneys--also not sure what reaches we make academically in those sports--don't have the answers but I still think we'd have to look at those sports critically from a number of angles.

That's better than 2008, but playing in Guy Mason Park does not predict national recruiting success. (Some may forget, but a softball field was part of the SW Quadrangle project and it was cut to save money.) Maybe softball becomes a Big East power, or maybe it plateaus along where baseball is right now. There's a lot more to "stangant" programs that W/L records do not address.

I agree, but I hardly think it's the softball program's fault that they're still playing at Guy Mason. Never mind the fact that going from playing mediocre independent teams to playing teams in the Big East that was a pretty good softball conference this year and nearly making the big east tourney is pretty ridiculous. And DFW, as I wasn't around back in the days of the SWQ planning, where was the field supposed to be?

I'd dig up a link if I can find one. Edit: Or to the west of the tennis courts, which I suppose is west of the Jes Res. You can see it in the graphic from the former campus plan on the Campus Development site[/url]

AD resigns. Wonder if this is going to affect the progam going forward, ie funding. There's been + progression the pgm since Muir came on board. Actually the increased funding for soccer came because the Big EAst made it mandatory for all of their soccer teams to get to the maximum scholarships. The rule just happened around the time Mr Muir came on board. Before a few years ago the men only 1 or 2 scholarships and the women not much more i don't think. Considering that they both did really well. What happened is that budgets got cut probably to pay for the increased scholarships. I guess that hurts program as well as helps. Basically womens soccer has a couple real good years and men 1 out of the last 3 was a winning one. Good for the women but not as good for the men considering the $ increase. The next year or 2 should show if it pays off with more money but our facility in soccer like in most htings just isn't as good as the rest we recruit against and probably hurts a lot. Can we get lights on the soccer field sometime? that would help a lot.

The way the new campus plan is being drawn up, we're supposedly wrecking Yates and building a field/track where kehoe was. North Kehoe will then be used for the new Yates as I understand it along with adding some floors to Leavey. All this is kind of confusing, and might not happen, but this is the idea. I guarantee if they build proposed field with track it will have lighting. I would imagine this is where the soccer/field hockey teams would play.

the lighting issue on north kehoe has been discused and the neighborhood nixed it many times I also heard that the helicopter landing area is a problem for having lights - not to mention a real pain in the &*^ when the games have to be stopped for landing! Its too bad because most top programs play at night now which brings a lot more fans (and probably recruits too)
