gotta love that the commenters on the site love pat for his hustle. hearing that makes me think he's making the roster (does that mean we have another jersey to hang up at next year's MM...?)

I would go to a Knicks game during my Thanksgiving vacation just to see him play a few minutes.

This should be the easiest decision ever. Jerome James is terrible and is a fish out of water in D'Antoni's offense. He's also 33 and always injured.
Now is not the time to make a stupid decision based on the economics of buying out this stiff's contract. The Knicks are going to be lousy either way. The son of the greatest Knick ever might even put people in the seats if he starts throwing it down like we know he can.
If the Knicks choose James it will be yet another disaster. Woo-hoo let's go to the Garden and watch James play 3mpg because his contract is too big to buy out. Sunk cost madness: catch the fever.

Common sense: To have a successful team in NY, you need players who won't get boo'ed out of the game. The Yankees will fill seats no matter what if Jeter is on that team. Deserving or not, he's a beloved figure in NY. He can speak for the team and provide an emotional center for fans to look at. The Knicks have...?? Not since maybe Alan Houston have the Knicks had someone that fans could rally around. Pat could be that player, even just as a backup SF, there are intangibles he can bring to the arena.

Guys like John Starks and Charles Oakley were way more beloved than Houston ever was and for the same reason Ewing Jr. would be appreciated by the Garden crowd. They played with heart and grit. Neither would ever have the smoothe, effortless game of Houston but New Yorkers identified with them.

NY would not have had an issue with Houston's smooth style if he could have produced big points on a regular basis in the post season.

A few years ago after watching Ewing Jr during the KL summer league I wrote that Pat would be the best trailer/weapon on the fastbreak for Gtown since Iverson and Page. I don't regret writing that because I still feel it was the truth. Unfortunately Gtown didn't play the type of style that led to enough fast break opportunities to give Pat a lot of chances for highlight reel plays like his dunk on Friday night. Maybe this speaks of how superficial of a nation we are, but if Gtown ran more the past couple of seasons and Pat had gotten a chance to display that type of electricity on a much more consistent basis I'm sure there are a few current highly coveted recruits that may have been more attracted to the program. Not saying Gtown isn't getting its share of great recruits, but if Pat had been challenging Deron Washington for highlight supremacy that could have produced some interesting dividends considering the glamor Georgetown had gotten back alone just on its recent on-court success.

I see what you're saying MCI and that may be true. I know that he is already like 45 years old or something but it would have been fun to see him play on this years team (assuming it runs as much as we all think it is)

Pat was indeed the last cut
From 1050 ESPN Radio's Andrew Marchand (do not credit)
The Knicks just announced that Patrick Ewing Jr. is their final cut. They chose guard Anthony Roberson and center Jerome James over Ewing Jr.

And the Knicks continue their history of moronic decisions. I'm sure there's some cap implications there, but keeping James -- who won't ever play for the Knicks -- over anyone young is stupid.

And with that decision, so ends the possibility of me watching more than a half dozen Knicks games this year.
