Rumors in the NY papers today talking about dumping Stephon Marbury. Does this open a possible door for PE Jr. or am I completely deluded?

I was thinking the exact same thing - perhaps we're both completely deluded...

Well, it's always nice to have company in ignorance. Trust me, I know.

I'd have to assume the Knicks would make a good faith effort to trade Marbury, otherwise, why even start the season with him? I keep hearing rumblings they will bring PEJr back though.

Would love to have it happen. I assume the Knicks would have to eat the majority of Steph's salary but it seems as though they don't much care at this point.

don't know whether this is even considered "newsworthy" for anyone, but ewing jr. was at the knicks game against CHA tonight (and they won?) - espn makes mention of it, and references how the knicks would consider bringing ewing jr. back if a roster spot opened up... scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=281105018

While on business in Nyc last night... I decided to swing into MSG and check out the first half of the game. About 20 minutes before the game started I got into an elevator at the Garden and randomly ran into PE2 in the elevator. After the initial shock, I told him I am a huge Hoya fan, told him he has a huge fan base on Hoyatalk which is documenting his every move (made him laugh), and told him he's too good not to be playing. He responded... "i'll get there"!. We exchanged fist bumps...my night was made.

Do you think the Knicks already know that a spot will open up soon (possibly via a coming trade, cut, whatever), so there is sort of an unspoken spot for him in the near future?

^^^Wouldn't surprise me. Watching the game on tv last night, they showed Pat in street clothes in the stands. Breen and Clyde were saying that he is currently just "working out", that he has had offers to play in the D-League and overseas but right now just working out and hoping for a call from an NBA team.
Logically... if he wasn't pretty sure he'd have an NBA deal coming his way soon, I feel like the smart play would be to find a D-League team. That way he could get some action and still wait to see if anybody might come along and offer him a 10 day contract or whatever. He'd essentially be in the same holding pattern he's in now, only he'd be getting some competitive practice and making a few bucks.
It seems pretty clear that the Marbury thing is going to have to get resolved pretty soon. It's dying down a little bit as a story but I really can't imagine they are going to carry the guy around all season as a $20 million inactive player. D'antoni seems pretty resolute about not playing him, so it's just a matter of seeing if they can trade him somewhere (doubtful), or if not, what the price tag is on buying him out and waiving him. Seems like they're sort of playing chicken right now, Knicks waiting for him to accept a buyout at less than full price and Steph acting like he's willing to watch the whole season in street clothes to get all the money he's owed. It's a bit of a stalemate but there's no way it lasts the season, and once they get it resolved that roster spot is probably Pat's.
FWIW Roberson has been getting a few minutes per game the last few games. Seems likely to me that Mike D foresaw this whole Marbury thing and decided to keep an extra guard until it was resolved. With Marbury out of the picture they need a 4th guard in the 4 man rotation behind Duhon, Crawford and Nate, and Roberson has perhaps passed Mardy Collins in that process. If they waive Steph soon and give the roster spot to Pat, I think that'd probably be the best case scenario for all involved and would show some good decision making from D'Antoni/Walsh.

ewing jr may eventually go back to the knicks. d'antoni said that. he liked him but indicated it was a management/financial decision. ewing jr knew and expected this. now he will get valuable playing time and can come back. and when he does i am sure the Knicks will be one of the teams calling.

Gave a cursory glance at the D League draft list, and did not see Patrick's name. Hope this portends a quick return to the Knicks.
