I'm glad that Indiana fans are taking to Roy and hope anyone who is from there doesn't get offended by this--oh who am I kidding--WTF do those people do--live in a cave? Mike Wells the writer says "Hibbert was known as a defensive center at Georgetown". WHEN? You could argue that Roy Hibbert is the most talented offensive center in terms of skill set at Georgetown. I think Ewing was most talented offensive player-but Roy has edge in terms of passing skills on Pat--so an argument can be made along with fact Roy didn't possess Pat's athleticism. Just wondering if people in Indiana choose to not follow the rest of CBB or they just choose to not pay attention to what happens or they employ people who don't understand what makes a good offensive player? You all can return to the lovefest they are having with Roy--but this link really had me puzzled as to how ignorant they are when judging players games/skills. Dude, I wrote this guy (who has had his doubts about Roy since he first got drafted) about this in an email months ago. And I've been trying to tell some Pacers fans about Roy's strengths and weaknesses since the summer. I'll give the fans a break for not knowing about what players can do. But for so many journalists and bloggers to be so bleeping lazy and keep making claims that Hibbert is raw and underdeveloped on offense but is more advanced on defense....well its absurd. If I had a dollar for every person who compared him to Mutombo. That's an insult to both players. Hibbert is not the defender or the rebounder that Deke is. But he is more skilled. His strength is his offense at this point of his development. Don't you all get it - the "book" was written on Roy a long time ago. He's tall, not overly fluid or smooth on the court, and comes from Georgetown. Therefore, his D is ahead of his O, all evidence to the contrary. Another example, here's today's random blog: upsideandmotor.blogspot.com/2008/10/seasons-greetings-indiana-pacers-2008.html"Most Unheralded Asset: Roy Hibbert - He's an NBA-ready shot blocker and an active force in the paint on D. His offensive game still has a long way to go, but he can still be productive as a rookie and he's not afraid of anyone."

Blogger compares Roy to The Chief. Quotes the Wells article then has this to say... "Time will tell just how effective Roy Hibbert is eventually going to be, in the NBA … but if this corner’s assessment proves to be correct, he is destined to have a long and productive career, as a ‘Robert Parrish-esque’ player, i.e. no fuss-no muss, consistent on both ends of the floor, plays within himself at all times, Rock Solid Big … following in the grand tradition of Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutumbo, Alonzo Mourning and [to a far lesser extent] Othella Harrington." khandorssportsblog.wordpress.com/2008/10/14/next-one-from-georgetown/

It may take some time but Roy will get his due just like he did here. Underestimate Big Roy at your own peril.

Eddie Sefko of Dallas Morning News: mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/10/big-men-still-are-gold-in-the-nba.htmlPutting too much stock in preseason games is a dangerous thing, but we like to live on the edge here. So with that, we'll go out on a limb and say that Indiana rookie Roy Hibbert is already better than half the centers in the NBA. If you believe that's an indictment on more than half the centers in the NBA, you're right. But Hibbert is good. He's active in many ways, longer than a ... well, you know. And he's got some nice touch around the basket. He even is moving out to the elbow for face-up jump shots. In short, he looks like another player who stayed in college and is reaping the benefits by being more NBA ready as a rookie.

Those highlights are amazing. Look at that passing! Confident on both ends and no hesitation taking advantage of lazy NBA defense. I'm lovin it.

Roy is having an outstanding preseason. If he can maintain this level of play in the regular season he's going to be 1st team all rookie just like Jeff was last year.
I know it's early and these games don't count but you have to be thrilled to see him doing so well, and proud of him that after 4 years of hard work and all the criticism he took, it's looking like he is going to be a legit NBA player.

Agreed RB. And really, not that surprising. Like our Hoya team this season, ROY is going to be even better at the end of the season than he is now.

Roy is having an outstanding preseason. If he can maintain this level of play in the regular season he's going to be 1st team all rookie just like Jeff was last year. This is a MUCH tougher rookie class from all early indications. And if Roy doesn't get as many minutes as some of these other rookies it will make it that much more difficult for him to make First Team.

You know Mayo and Beasley are going to get there, and if Oden counts he'll be there too. So for the last 2 spots Roy will probably have to be better than all but one of: Rose, Love, Lopez, Gordon, Speights, Westbrook and teammate Rush. Definitely not an easy task, though definitely within his ability. Also Rudy Fernandez, another guy not drafted in '08 but I think he's a rookie... from what I saw in the olympics and what I hear about his play with the Blazers he's another guy whose going to be a great rookie. Anyway, I'm way ahead of myself, but even though this rookie class has looked pretty damn good so far, Roy has been among the best of em.

Throughout the preseason Roy has consistently outplayed teammates Foster and Nesterovic. I think he may find himself in the starting five for the tip off of the season.
