Based on what I read, I thought he was swinging/rotating around to clear space. He barely hit the guy. For that to be such a quick flagrant 2 is stupid. I bet the league downgrades it to a flagrant 1 (I don't even think it should be that).
And what a punk Ely is.

tough to tell how severe it was in a slo-mo from distance, but it did not look all that bad. Of course, it wasn't MY jaw!
But.. pre-season, keep things calm. Still seemed like ejection was quite a severe penalty. Haven't we all seen far worse with no ejection and maybe no foul, or certainly not a flagrant?

Hopefully nothing bad came out of it! They should downgrade it but who knows, Roy should have his first paycheck by now . I think I would cry if I was ejected from my first NBA game.

i could see the ejection if roy started complaining about it or got into it with ely, but he did neither; he just dropped the ball to the ref and then started walking to his bench/defensive zone. he look so shocked when they ejected him.

At first, I was surpised Roy got ejected, but when I found out why, I wasn't anymore. Roy used to swing his elbows all the time to clear out space, it was just a matter of time before he connected with somebody. If anyone remembers, he did that at midcourt his sophomore year during our first round NCAA Tournament game vs. Northern Iowa, and got called for it, but it wasn't even a technical then. I wonder if there's a different rule in the NBA.
I dunno, all part of the learning experience. Hopefully he stays aggressive.

Surprising it happened out at the key instead of down low.
he did connect directly with the jaw.
Much ado about...well, not all that much really. But maybe it will help Roy get a rep around the league as someone not to be messed with? Of course, the flip side is a rep with Refs who could "over call" vs. him.

Didn't really look like anything more than a bump to clear some space. It wasn't one of those wild elbow swing after a rebound types of moves. Oh well, I would have liked to see him yell back at Ely a little more.

1) That was awful camera work and awful producers on the replay--they never actually got a decent shot of the elbow to the face!
2) Melvin Ely is a gameless punk who needs to go sit back down on the end of the Clippers bench where he started his career. His reaction might be the most over-the-top ridiculous reaction I've seen to a seemingly innocuous and accidental elbow ever. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!
3) How bewildered and subdued did Roy look after that play?! He just walked away and looked around like "what the heck just happened?" That was the most innocent looking ejection I've ever seen. Usually there's some flagrancy and fire and heated emotion shown by the player who committed the foul when they're ejected, but Roy looked like he just got called for traveling and looked at the ref with a "Who? Me?" face.
4) Gotta love that even when Big Roy gets ejected from the game for an elbow to the face that he comes off as the classy one and the consummate professional.
5) Roy is definitely a badass. Be mean, Roy, be very mean.

ely can flip the bird like that... he needs to get some fine for that... i thought the NBA was big on the "kids" are watching and we want to be professional. -m

Yeah, what the hell is up with Ely not getting fined or ejected for a blatant on camera use of the bird? Really? Come on NBA.

Ely will get fined once the league reviews the game film. he didn't get ejected because the refs didn't "see" the bird. But he will be fined. In the end, Roy's foul will be reduced to a F1 and as such he'll see no fine or suspension, Ely will get a fine. So the Bowee gets the consequences and the Bowor gets off fair.

I just don't see Roy playing with the type of malice or recklessness to warrant getting kicked out of a game... i'm sure he was just doing what he was tought to do when clearing space. Were Ely the same height as Roy, that elbow would hit Ely in the shoulder and there would be no foul call.
By chance...was this the same officiating crew that did the Davidson game?

Roy might be first team all rookie the way he's looking tonight. He's out there beasting. Blocking shots, nice passes, nice moves down low. Roy looks so much more mobile than he ever did here.

Lots of love from the Pacer fans: www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-default/showthread.php?t=41676"man o man hibbert is so amazing. how he fell that far in the draft is amazing." "Roy Hibbert needs to touch the ball on every possession he is in the game." "Hibbert is improving at a scary rate right now. Our defense is already significantly better with him on the floor." "Hibbert is a beast attacking the boards."

Long way to go still. Shooting under 50% and needs to improve that. He has mental block at the free throw line going on, what, 18 months now? Has to stop picking up those fouls though I think in the first game all of his fouls came on the offensive end. At least he had two assists today.
