I seem to remember that Roy held his ground against Oden.

I seem to remember that Roy held his ground against Oden. I think Roy is going to do just fine and might be the most under-rated First Round pick. Go Big Roy!

How many were written by MCI? ;D I don't think Roy's success is surprising.

Dare I say it...Hibert actually looks like he is running the court well. Not just good for Hibbert...but good for an NBA center. He also looks strong on the boards. I am very happy with the product Georgetown is delivering.

Throughout the preseason Roy has consistently outplayed teammates Foster and Nesterovic. I think he may find himself in the starting five for the tip off of the season. Doubt that. Its probably unwise to throw him that quickly into the fire. But he could win the spot sometime during the regular season.

It seems somewhat ironic to me that popular opinion holds that Roys's offensive game is 'unpolished' because he doesn't try to dunk every ball. I think Roy's offensive game is all about finesse and polish and in that sense is probably more refined than 60% of the centers already in the league.
Also, blueandgray, I totally agree on the up and down the court point. The thing I noticed most in watching those videos of Roy is that his acceleration is VASTLY improved. Wasn't really lagging behind ANYBODY. I'd say that at this point I think Roy's future looks very bright.

He's averaging around 9 points in 20 minutes per game. Not too shabby.

those stats are pretty good id say, not much off of last year and in fewer minutes. two blocks a game really translates to four points a game because he is saving his team from needing to score points (i know that isnt a perfect statistical analysis of the effect of blocks on a game but the idea is good). It will be an interesting match up between Roy and Oden (who i dont feel kind of bad for because he is not playing poorly (he is playing ok actually), just everyone thinks he is like the next kareem or something)

I was listening to that game last night and the New Orleans announcers were all over slurping Roy's basketballs. The one guy must have said "I love him" like three times and they were just drooling. Then they compared his foot work negatively to Bynum and I stopped listening, until Roy rolled his ankle. It was like somebody shot the dude's wife, he practically ran out on the floor worried about Big Roy. I honestly thought I had the Indiana feed straight from Bird's living room or something. They did say he was walking on his own a minute or two later, but I haven't had a chance to check for status. They loved Roy's D, his 3 for3 offense (though they noted he was throwing his foul shots at the rim, I think the comment was "trying to hurt the rim" and he was 1-4 from the line) and from the sounds of it Roy should have had at least one assist, plus several dishes where the shot didn't fall.
Listening to our graduates play on radio is my way of gearing up for Chvotkin.

More Roy love: www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081024/SPORTS04/810240435Hibbert leads the Pacers in blocks, with 15 in the preseason and he has shown he can run and pass in the offense. He said it's a "challenge" to play at a faster tempo, but he can handle it because he likes to run. "We never thought that was going to be a problem," O'Brien said. "He runs well and he's working on his speed every day, working on his body position to move efficiently." Hibbert hasn't been intimidated by opponents. He has already exchanged words with New Orleans' Melvin Ely and San Antonio's Matt Bonner during games. Hibbert said his decision to stay in college for his senior year has helped his transition to the NBA. "I feel that if I did come out my junior year, being on this team, I would have had a harder time absorbing the information . . . ," he said. "I think staying the extra year helped prepared me. And even then, it's still tough." www.hoopsworld.com/Blogs/CourtsideBlog.asp?GAME_ID=29523&LEAGUE_CODE=NBA"Everyone was also buzzing about rookie Roy Hibbert. Granger joked that you can't teach and eight-foot wingspan, and added that he has never seen a rookie big man who's as prepared as Hibbert. We'll be running a feature on his in the next few days."

[/blockquote] I wonder if others will rethink their criticism of Roy for staying four years if he has as successful a rookie year as we think he will, and if he continues to give some of the credit to staying at GU? Good find KC. Thanks for posting.

I wonder if others will rethink their criticism of Roy for staying four years if he has as successful a rookie year as we think he will, and if he continues to give some of the credit to staying at GU? Maybe. Adrian Wojnarowski is already claiming that NBA teams will likely regret allowing Roy to slide down that far. Check out this video link. The stuff on Roy and Brandon Rush comes towards the end: cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=207187&cl=10348607&ch=244098&src=sportsBy the way thanks to a streamline connection I was able to watch most of the Pacers last pre-season game against the Mavericks on Thursday. I missed Roy missing his first three shots and he also missed his last three too (blew one easy shot). But there was a small stretch (which also counted for most of the minutes he saw that night) in the second half in which he was just dominant on both ends of the court and too much for Dampier and that other 7 foot center to handle. Its a shame he didn't get many minutes in that game. The announcers for the Mavericks both agreed he has a big upside. Its almost a forgone conclusion by media and fans alike that Hibbert is Indiana's center of the future. The only question is whether he becomes the starter sometime this season or whether he inherits the role next season (Rasho has an expiring contract that ends this year and many think the Pacers will allow Roy to learn behind him for a year before giving him the nod). Below is a link to the website of an Indiana radio station that conducted a recent interview (10-21) with Roy. www.wnde.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=interviews.xml

Roy's stats looked good in the preseason except for his FT% (48.3). He has to improve this stat, if he wants to be in at the end of tight games. He has such a good touch that it must be a mental block. Maybe in the real season this will not be an issue.
