Interesting point, Jack.
Anyone recall a New England recruit in the last 35 years.
I would agree Victor Page from the Winchendon School doesn't count.

Does Pat Ewing count? Or is he listed under Jamaica.

Great news!
Sounds like a tough kid. 6'8 227 and he's got two years to get bigger before he gets to GU
Good work JT3!

Of course DFW had the answer on the History site. Should have looked. What is incredible to me from that list is that Kenny Brunner was the first Californian (other than one year of Kevin Floyd). Considering California is the 2nd or 3rd best represented state among the student body and has had plenty of basketball talent, I never would have expected that.

"Coach Thompson is a classy guy and a helluva coach. And (Assistant) Coach Hunter is terrific. I grew really close to him, and he is also a close friend to (New England Playaz coach) John Carroll who I'm close to." John Carroll?!?!? Was there ever a chance we weren't going to get Lubick?

Lubick with some more great words about the team - what a great start to '10 - now from a recruiting standpoint JTIII can zero in on a kid (if he wants) without having to be spread too thin LUBICK NOT WORRIED ABOUT RACE ISSUE It’s been more than four years since Georgetown has had an American-born Caucasion on their team. That was before Matt Causey transferred out of the program and ultimately landed at Georgia Tech. John Thompson III and the Hoyas landed highly regarded junior forward Nate Lubick last night. He isn’t set to arrive on campus until the fall of 2010. ``At first, after Georgetown offered, it was like, `Georgetown doesn’t offer white kids,’” Lubick said. “I thought about it a little bit and after I visited the second time and was with their players, I just said, ‘Who cares.’” ``I went on a bunch of visits and none of the teams were anywhere nearly as close as Georgetown,” Lubick added. “It’s crazy. They all hang out together like a family and couldn’t care less about the white-black thing and that’s what made me so comfortable. I didn’t even pay attention to it.” The Hoyas do have 6-foot-8 Nikita Mescheriakov on the team, who hails from Belarus. community.foxsports.com/blogs/goodmanonfox

Some love for Coach Hunter a little further down the page: "You've got to give Hoyas assistant Kenya Hunter, one of the elite young assistant coaches in the industry, a ton of credit on this one."

Good to see race-baiting is not limited to politics. These articles make me ill. I don't care if he is white, green, purple or plaid. He wears Blue and Gray now.

It’s been more than four years since Georgetown has had an American-born Caucasion on their team. *Shrug* I know they probably mean we haven't had a white American player on SCHOLARSHIP since Causey, but you can't say that Jansen and Izzo aren't/weren't part of the team. Just because they don't get a ton of playing time doesn't mean they're not important parts of the team.

I might be a LITTLE concerned if he was green or plaid. Isn't that a symptom of norovirus? (Purple would just mean he's working hard, desperately and futilely trying to match Tyler Hansbrough in heart and intensity). ;D ;D

I see the Brotha-Hood's carefully scripted plan to exclude all white males from basketball scholarships at Georgetown is falling apart. They had been quite successful since the mid-80's. They'd only allowed Mike Sabol, Brian Kelly and Matt Causey into this very 'exclusive' club.
Now this Lubick kid could jeopardize all of their hardwork.
Glad to have Nate here!! Really looking forward to having him on the squad.
Hopefully this will open up doors to other recruits for the Hoyas.

From his comments you can see the perception that has been fed into these kids' heads. Again, its because of II and III being black men that the perception exists. It has not as much to do with the majority of the players being black. If it did most big time programs would be scrutinized. How come they're not? Cause they have white head coaches. Within the BE, UCONN, Louisville, Villanova, etc. feature very few white players that contribute. When's the last time Nova had a credible white player on schollie? Aaron Bain? My point is and has always been that if GU never got any good white players and still won we'd all be happy.
Now with all that said: Good to have Nate on board. Seems to ad some JYD to the team, which is needed.

To be fair to Nova, Mike Nardi was a pretty solid contributor for them in the recent past. Still, your point is taken -- none of those programs have had a surplus of Caucasian contributors.
