I'd like to formally thank the Kansas City Royals for sweeping the Tigers this weekend. I wanted to no part of the Twins in the first round.

I definately liked the Twins chances against the Yankees better in the first round, b/c they had a much better chance of shutting down that lineup with their rotation set up and the bullpen rested, rather than coming off of a tough ALDS series. Maybe the Tigers will knock off the Yankees anyway--it'd be nice to get homefield throughout the playoffs.

So how many Divisional Series are sweeps?
Need at least one of them to be so Clemson-Wake is on ESPN and not ESPNC this weekend.

8 deeply flawed teams. Anyone could win, except for the Yankees, because they are cursed and Jesus hates them.

20 years later, the World Championship will again reside in Flushing, Queens.
The road there is immaterial.

Speaking of Petey, are he and his rotator cuff going to come to the games anyway?

Doesn't matter. Jose Reyes will run all over the NL. Not making any predictions other than that.

Amen to that. Finally, while it seems like a real hoot to make fun of Pedro's misfortune, it is indisputable that his signing in 2004 signified that the Mets were back and meant business. Without the Pedro signing, Mets don't get Beltran or Wagner. He has, in my mind, already justified the contract (all 4 years and 52 Mil of it).

AL - Please, someone beat the Yankees.
I would have posted this yesterday, but it was Yom Kippur, and I was busy.
Yankees over Tigers. Way to go, Tigers, getting swept at home by the Royals, including blowing 5 and 6 run leads. That's pitiful. If they can recover to beat the Yankees (who beat them up during the season), I'll be flabbergasted. I just wonder if this won't ruin the Tigers for next season, as well. See Cleveland, 2006.
Twins over A's. I intend to post something else about the Twins later. I know this game is already started, but I'm not following it, so I don't know how Santana is doing. He struggled in his first 3 starts and his last 3 starts during the year, but was lights out for the other 5 or so months. If Santana struggles, the Twins will lose. If he's the Cy Young Santana, the Twins win.
Yankees over Twins (no, please).
NL
Padres over Cardinals. Two late rallies saved the Cards from the biggest choke since the '64 Phillies. Their only hope is that Carpenter pitches lights out (which might not even be good enough), and he wasn't down the stretch. The Padres have easily the best pitching top to bottom of the NL playoff teams with Peavy having returned to form and Williams recovered from his injuries. I'm pulling for the Cards (only because I'm an oldtime Cardinal fan going back to Stan Musial, my all-time favorite player), but I give them no shot.
Dodgers over Mets. Just a hunch. But if El Duque the witch is still up to his old tricks, the Mets win. Who could have figured when the Sox traded El Duque that he would be a game 1 playoff starter?
Padres over whomever.
Series
Padres over Yankees. Pitching trumps hitting.
Footnote: If Liriano were healthy, Twins would beat everyone.

Even with Pedro in tow, Beltran and his agent wanted to sign with the Yankees, badly, offering to take less money than they'd have taken from the Mets. The Yankees declined b.c, with the luxury tax, Beltran would have cost them 20 mill a year. Foolish decision by them, at the time. Anyway, like Pedro, Beltran merely signed with the highest bidder. So did Billy Wagner. Most free agents do. This whole "Pedro made us legit" is a nice sentiment that Mets fans use to defend what they must subconciously know was a very risky contract. It simply isn't true, though. That said, the Mets signing Pedro was risky, but when you're the Mets coming off a couple of terrible seasons, you have to overpay. They overpaid for everyone. Luckily, Pedro is the only investment that has soured, and they have plenty of money. I will say that Theo Epstein should get a breather from all the sox fans that assailed him for breaking up the 2004 team.

I never knew two men could win a baseball game by themselves, but I'm pretty sure Frank Thomas and Barry Zito just did so.

OK, I have to give it up. I may hate baseball, and I may think ESPN is the devil, but I clicked on that Gamecast dealie today and, I have to say, that's pretty cool. I actually clicked on it just in time to see the little animated ball fly toward Frank Thomas at the plate and then shoot back out over the left field wall.
I also like the Tin Man though, so maybe I'm just really easily entertained by stupid things.
(Of course, maybe it's because the game moves so slowly that it can be so easily re-created on a computer. But I'll keep those thoughts to myself from now on because I know all the baseball fans are in their own personal nirvanas. Enjoy!)

The Tin Man is going to be running in the Breeders Cup Turf, Boz. If you really like him, put your money down. He'll likely be 10-1 or so. ;D
