well if he actually is interested in school he may want to come back and get his degree after leaving for the NBA. He's also supposed to be pretty smart, able to get into georgetown anyway, so maybe he doesn't want to be bored at a crappy school like Uconn or LSU.

One of the recent Monroe articles -- I think it was the Rivals one -- said that Monroe had a 3.0 and a 22 on his ACTs. That is very solid for a Division I basketball player and I'm sure he could do just fine at Georgetown...but lets not go so far as to say he would get in to Georgetown without basketball. On edit: That information was found in this article blog.nola.com/tpsports/2007/09/monroe_narrows_choices_to_five.html

As a student, Monroe deserves more credit than you are giving him.

Also, getting into Georgetown these days is harder than the work (as is true at almost every top school).
There are 15,000 rejected applicants every year, and a vast majority of them could handle the cirriculum.

Monroe is the type of person that can accomplish what ever he wants in life. If he was a "regular" student and did not spend so much time working on being the best player in the country, he would have even better grades/scores. He is a true student-athlete, and a great one at that. BTW, the same can be said about Hollis Thompson and Deshante Riley.
Right now lsu and dook are trying all of the "tricks' to get Monroe. You can expect random occurrences to happen for Monroe's family and friends coming from the Baton Rouge and Durham areas.
Fortunately for G'Town, Monroe is not the type of person that will fall for that junk. He knows that if he follow his heart and mind, that he will pick the right school. In a year or two he can be a top pick with a phat Nike contract. So he does not have to sell his sole for some quickies right now...

IMO, Greg has known where he wants to go for a while now. Just going through the process. A process that could very well end this weekend.

He has respect for all the schools, but once the Hoyas came in they became a major player in the game. If you remember, GU came in relatively late for GM. Late, as opposed to LSU, Duke and others. III began to pick up steam this spring! I did an interview with Monroe a year ago last week and here was his list: LSU, Duke, Kansas, Florida, Kentucky and UNC.
As for his grades: “I owe a lot to my mom (Norma), my pastor and all the basketball coaches that help to improve my game everyday”, exclaimed Greg, who also boasts a 4.3 GPA in the classroom.
From i95ballerz.com on 10/03/06
If GU secures a verbal and subsequent signature from GM it will be a testament to the grind III has been trying to get this kid.

Monroe looks like he has added 10-15 pounds of muscle since last year. I hope Deshonte Riley puts in the weight room work like Monroe has.

He has the frame to fill out further. Riley does too, just needs to keep working out. He knows this though.

I know it cause I have met, talked with and interviewed both kids.
A reminder that idhoya's comments are as a journalist. Other contact with prospects is contrary to NCAA rules.--Admin

I was referring to your post about Greg's decision. I don't doubt you, it just seemed like you knew more than the rest of us, and I was wondering if there was more...

Regarding potential NCAA violations...
students last year held signs during MM and greeted Omar encouraging him to attend Gtown. Was this publicity, or this again a gray area?

technically yes it is a recruiting violation. It's a very minor one and is rarely enforced. It wouldn't effect the recruits eligibility to play for georgetown. the concern is that this year there will be cameras, so much easier to be documented commiting this minor infraction. i don't think there are any real reprecussions of commiting this violation, sure numerous ones could add up to something, but i don't think it's a big deal, at least in my understanding.

Regarding the signs--I would suggest checking with Hoya Blue on this matter. Assuming nothing has changed from the last two years, if HB is doing it, it is ok to do so. If they are not, then it is not.
