Monroe isn't stringing anyone along -- he's simply not talking to the media. Parrish is just annoyed he can't get his scoop -- and there's nothing lamer than the "sportswriter bitching because I don't have access" story.

Have we ever won a recruiting battle with UCONN recently? Seems they have gotten a lot of players that should have been wearing Hoyas uniforms. I don't like seeing them on the list.

Had anyone ever head of UConn or Texas as part of this lottery? Guess those Kansas folks who thought they had him wrapped up were wrong.

as per rivals.com Monroe to vist LSU weekend of 10/5, Georgetown weekend of 10/12, and the three remaining teams (Duke, Texas, UCONN) he says he will visit all of them, and hopes to be done with visits by MID NOVEMBER. He will sign then IF he feels comfortable but MAY wait till spring. I take it as good news that he hasn't even scheduled anything after the G-twon MM visit. Let's convince him he doesn't need to! GO HOYAS!!!

The LSU visit is essentially worthless. He's probably been there at least half a dozen times including visits when he took in football games.

If i had a chance to visit LSU, i'd go the weekend of Oct 5th. LSU-Florida. Obviously one of the best college football games of the year. He's going to have a really good time.

If he (and his Mom) are serious about giving strong consideration to the quality of academics, then LSU and UConn should have no chance against Georgetown, Puke and UT.

I'm thinking at this point inclusion of LSU is just for apperances to appease the locals. I really have a good feeling about this.

I still have the SI cover with Felipe on the cover(those were some ugly SJU uni's that year too!) There was no way he coulda lived up to the hype. Also, kids weren't dissected then the way they are now. Otherwise, gurus would have seen that he had no jumper and not projected him so high. He'd have been Bill Walker today! Played in the league for a minute. Was a big Malik Sealy fan though. tragic with the car accident. Apparently had some hot ties! upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9e/Lopez_on_SI.jpgIts a pretty sweet cover, but you're right about the uni EDIT: And facial expression, I missed that the first time Tough cover to live up to [prays for no more SI jinxes] Those were the good times. I had just gotten to Georgetown and that SI cover was my first whiff of big time college hoops. If only I didn't have all those stupid zits. Damn acne!

UConn after Hoya targets since III took over program:
1. Jessie Sapp--they started showing interest in him later in process
2. Dajuan Summers--Hoyas won head to head
3. Vernon Macklin--UConn tried to get involved
4. Austin Freeman
5. Chris Braswell
Guys on UConn that III was heavily recruiting/interested in:
1. Stanley Robinson 2. Jerome Dyson 3. Curtis Kelly--showed mild interest

I guess the few years before that it seemed like UCONN had kids either from the DC/MD area or kids that attended schools around here (Gay, Boone, others maybe?). I think it's a positive sign that Monroe has 2 Big East schools on the list while the others are all from different conferences - shows that he is plenty comfortable with the league.

Calhoun rarely goes all out after a recruit at first. He waits and takes a look at the situation. If Duke and UNC are on top of a kid early, Calhoun usually takes a pass. He probably stayed away from Monroe for so long because he felt he would choose Duke at first. But after all this time and Monroe having not yet committed to the Dukies, Calhoun likely no longer views the kid as a Duke lock and is trying to grab him for the Huskies. Typical Calhoun. Frankly I'm not worried about UConn when it comes to Monroe's recruitment. I do think its too late in the game for Calhoun to have any sort of advantage.

I think, with the extension, there has to be more concern about Calhoun retiring than III leaving. (Though admittedly not a huge concern there since it would be next season).
Don't count out LSU. One, his family is there and that's big. Two, while Greg seems pretty independent of the local scene, don't underestimate the amount of pressure a high school star has to stay home. It's possible that everyday people are constantly making comments of "you've gotta stay home" and "represent Louisiana" and that sort of thing. Personally, I don't think that much of Brady as a coach -- he seems to have a LOT of personality/PT issues -- and I was pretty eager to see another part of the country as an 18-year old, but Monroe may feel differently.

A perfect example was Joe McKnight going to USC last year for football. The kid was the #1 recruit in the whole country and left Louisiana--the Tiger fans still yell and complain about that one. Monroe better be prepared for the backlash if he decides to leave, but basketball's not quite as bad as football down there--not quite, but still with all sports it's bad hometown pressure.
