Just said my rosary. Special intention: The Monroe Doctrine is having a horrible weekend right now; and he decides on the RIGHT SCHOOL two weeks from TODAY. Definitely feel good about this because the BIG MAN owes me a couple HOYASAXA Gregory the Great!

(LOL) Jerry still had to put dook in there some how. The big question is when Monroe commits to GU will Jerry drop him in the rankings? Then Jerry will raise Olek CZYZ to the number one player in the country(hahaha)...

There's a rumour that Monroe will decide between georgetown and LSU after the georgetown visit. I really hope this ends up being true and that he decides for georgetown. I'd love to see the reaction from duke and Uconn fans ( and texas fans to a lesser extent) if they don't even get their official visits.

Question: I've gone to Midnight Madness the last couple of years and one thing I noticed is that recruits who were present were not even mentioned as a group, so my guess is that to acknowledge a particular recruit who is present, or a group of them is against NCAA rules----would someone kindly confirm this? It would be sad not to acknowledge Greg Monroe so that all the students and fans could have a chance to cheer for him, encouraging him to come to G'town.
Possible signs for MM: GU + GM = NC ; Georgetown and Gregory the Great, a match made in (HOYA) Heaven ; The Monroe Doctrine: Georgetown's greatest Presidential, uh... Act.
Finally: Would someone be so kind as to put up links to the fan sites and threads of the other teams who are, or just were, in the running in the Monroe Sweepstakes? I'd love to see what their impressions and thoughts on how this all unfolds. Thanks in advance. HOYASAXA!!

It is against NCAA regulations for the school or the coaching staff to comment on a specific recruit before they sign their LOI. Announcing them at MM would qualify, I suspect.

Thanks a lot SF and HSB. I guess I'm so hooked on this that I read pretty much every thread that both these sites had on Monroe. Only about 1/10 of it was either objective or fairly balanced. Still liked seeing what they think. Hopefully, only one more week of that type of conjecture...

LSU got lucky last night. Monroe watched a hell of a game and atmosphere. I did my undergrad at LSU. The locals like to say, “there’s nothing like Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.” That was my own experience. I’ve never been to event that had so much intensity and energy and grandness. The 80,0000 fans, tailgating most of the afternoon, the almost 300 member marching band, the real live Bengal Tiger mascot, a whole campus focused on little else the entire day other than the fact it was a game day. I remember when it got cool, the older crowd used to dress up in furs and fine clothing, as if they were going to the social event of season. Watching the game last night, I found myself remembering those days with great fondness. That said, Gtown has its own selling points – and given what I’ve seen of both, I can say that I wish I had gone to a school like Gtown. We can’t compete with the scale and pageantry of LSU. But our “smallness” has its own strengths. A real sense of community exists among Georgetown students that LSU can never achieve. There was a kind of pseudo-solidarity that developed among LSU students at the games; in those few hours all the divisions between races, greeks and non-greeks, nerds and cool people were papered over. The connections among Hoyas are broader and go deeper, I think. Not exactly one big happy family, of course, but a greater sense of knowing a lot of people, having a diverse group of friends, respecting classmates, knowing what they’re about, etc. Walking around campus, you regularly encounter friends and acquaintances. At LSU, I was one of 5,000 entering freshmen… five thousand… a good 20% of them didn’t make it to their sophomore year. I majored in electrical engineering, and to this day, every one of my friends from that time period, with one or two exceptions, was also an electrical engineering major. That kind of insularity would be unimaginable at Georgetown. Gtown has other selling points, of course, but the sense of community among students is an important one. And that’s what I hope visitors to our campus will see at MM: a group of students (and alums!) who enjoy one another’s company, who know each other, who are often friends, who do things like join GUGS, the pep band, etc. because they love their school, and know how to have fun together.

I'm not worried about LSU's selling points compared to Gtown's other than perhaps facilities. I'm pretty sure Monroe has gone to LSU football games before. I think Monroe knows already what LSU has to offer and I think he is too smart to allow a football game, that has nothing to do with basketball, to sway his decision.
I still worry more about Duke.

I still worry more about Duke. I understand your point MCI, but I don't worry about any of these other schools. They each have their own selling points -- whether we want to acknowledge them or not. But the advantages that Georgetown has are numerous, strong, and more substantive than some of the "flash" of other places. I am thinking of: - Academics - Smaller, close knit student body - The pre-eminence of the basketball program as our only major national sports focus - The experience of being in Washington DC - the naton's capital - GU's Hoops tradition and close ties to our NBA alumni - The re-emergence of Hoya Hoops as an elite national program - The incredible kids (and talent) on the current team - The involvement of the parents - not just the Great Green family! - The continued involvement of Pops, a living legend - Most of all -- JT3 and Staff. As coaches, as teachers and as leaders If that isn't enough to persuade a recruit and his family that GU is the place for him, then he belongs somewhere else.

Someone pointed this out, but how important can academics be if you are planning on staying one year? Kids like this make a lot of sense to me because you can make a run at a title, and you might get a huge donation in the near future a la Melo at Cuse.
