Without question, Barker's coverage of the Hoyas has consistently been at the highest level, rivaling and sometimes surpassing the early work of Ken Denlinger and Michael Wilbon in terms of Hoya coverage. He is absolutely irreplaceable.
While it has not been mentioned here, arguably Barker's best work has been his golf coverage since golf seems to better lend itself to prose. My hope is that he finds the right subject and takes the time to unleash his inner Herbert Warren Wind.
Hoya Saxa Barker. Our lives will all be a little more empty without your work.

This is not meant to be a criticism of our offensive or defensive system, but I can't help but wonder if there is not a second order impact on the number of transfers.
First, because we play a low number of possessions, there are fewer shots available for everybody, and that restricts "opportunities" for players getting limited minutes.
Second, because fouls occur disproportionately on shot attempts, low possession games lead to fewer fouls. Moreover, because we do not aggressively challenge the dribble on the perimeter we don't get a lot of reaching fouls. Looking at Pomeroy for the past few years would seem to validate this perspective. Low foul games obviously reduce the need to substitute and put less pressure on the coach to develop his bench.
If kids feel that they can play more at another school, they have every right to go elsewhere. I will get concerned when there is evidence that the school is not fullfilling its academic mission.

I couldn't believe that we had recruited a player named "Sleepy."

I go with Jeff as the MVP by a hair because of the Final Four, but also because Jeff could get his own shot in end of game situations, while Mike was more reliant on his teammates.

Guys, I don' know if we can really be happy about this win. Based on what the Tulane announcers told me, we stole this one because of the MOST UNFAIR TECHNICAL IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME! But seriously I'm very pleased. Beyond what people have already said I'll throw in that the Hoya fans were very noticeable over both the radio and in the video feed. Good job guys If that basket hang wasn't a technical, then they need to jettison the rule. There were no players underneath the basket - i.e. the Tulane player was not protecting himself - and the Tulane player pulled his knees up to within three feet from the rim.

mapei got it right, also note that they somehow managed to shoot 40% so our improved D did not necessarily force bad shots. if they had hit some 3s positives must include Clark's stroke and D at the top of the zone. he is our shutdown defender now and will usually get the opps. slasher/scorer as his task. if he can continue to stroke jumpers and play lockdown D, he will officially become someone special (well, more special than we all are just for being hoyas, but it seemed silly to write "somehoya special"). Actually our D was very, very good. Other than a few fast break buckets off of turnovers, most of Tulane's makes were tough, contested shots.

Dajaun with the magical trillion (1000000000000) as he dresses in place of Jonas Jerebko.
Roy played well tonight and his defense has really improved. The best part of the game is listening to Pacers color commentator Clark Kellogg channeling MCIGuy complete with "Get Roy the ball", "He's reposting, throw it back in" and "How can you not make an entry pass to a seven foot two guy who has pinned his defender four feet from the basket."

Dajuan is on the roster - which means that he is being paid - but he has not dressed in either of the first two games.

The issue isn't the 3 or the 4 in my mind -- I think the issue to me is that Jeff is best used with the ball in his hands to some extent. He isn't a top tier superstar, but Durant isn't a distributor at all at this point. Jeff has become a good spot shooter, but you are completely nullifying his passing ability when you run every play through Durant. I think Jeff would be better on a team that ran a more balanced/structured offense. This comment would have been true at the start of last season, but - admittedly based on one game - OKC's offense has changed. Westbrook dominated and distributed the ball and it was not a Durant centric offense. Plus Durant has become a much more willing passer.

Ty Lawson looked amazing tonight. His speed is superior to nba guys and I did not know that prior to seeing him actually on the court. DaJuan Blair is gonna be beastly. Cant bleev his success is translating to the league at his height, even with strength. Jeff Green is a beast and I expect that team, if kept together, to compete at the highest level in a few years (and with a better coach). I don't understand the better coach comment. The Thunder have improved significantly under Scott Brooks since he replaced PJ Carlesimo. Their 3 best players - Durant, Green and Westbrook - have each really improved. The team plays an interesting and potentially devastating offense. Their perimeter defense is much improved. The team has one major issue. As currently constructed, the starting front line consists of two 3s (Durant and Green) and a skilled but soft 5 (Kristic). This is not an offensive problem but leaves them vulnerable defensively. Given his personnel, my view is that Brooks is making great progress. Why would one feel otherwise?

Jeff played one of his best games ever scoring 24 on a very efficient 13 shots going 9-13 from the field and 4-5 from 3. He also added 8 boards and was credited with three blocks although that number might have been 5 or 6. He clearly spent the summer working on post moves and showed well.
As a Thunder fan I had managed down my expectations to expect something like 35-38 wins, but, despite the fact that Sacramento was the opponent, this years version of the Thunder looks like they might challenge for a playof spot. The key is that the offense looks much, much better because Russell Westbrook has become a real live point guard. Their weakness will continue to be a vulnerability to teams that can pound it inside, but otherwise they will be a matchup nightmare when they have the ball in their hands.

Foxpro - Thanks for the updates. The addition of Jessie to the Rocks adds a third item to my list of favorite Scottish items, joining golf and haggis. Upon reflection, you can strike haggis from the list. Haggis beats scotch? That's messed up ... You are correct, the ommission of scotch was a serious error for which I beg forgiveness.

I graduated in 88 and one of the replies to "What's a Hoya?" I often heard was "Your future employa" Quality first post! And this thread is kind of frightening me. While the Freshmen are just starting their journey, I'm starting the last year of it!!! There's always grad school.

Congratulations. As the equally proud parent of a senior daughter and a sophomore son, I would point out that the best bonding opportunities coincide with Hoya home games.

And K State also lost Michael Beasley after only one season, and, and, then their coach left. Woe is K State. Beasley would've left in 2 weeks if he was shackled by the Princeton Offense. Of course, maybe Miami would not be so anxious to move Beasley if he had learned a few Princeton principles.
