There is one aspect to Roy's game that hasn't been given enough attention. That is his work ethic. I remember him very well when he first arrived at Georgetown. He was not even a top 100 recruit. He was an absolute Klutz. He had a very wobbly unstable walk and had no offensive skills. After running up and down the court a few times, he was winded. He was considered a "project" that might or might not pan out. What he has accomplished since that time is just amazing. I remember after Macklin transferred, he subsequently had kind things to say about us. One comment was that he watched Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert practice hour after hour to make themselves better. Roy is not a premier athlete. He is just a player who has made himself great by working, working, working. Lot of other players could learn a lesson from big Roy about the rewards of practice. I am not intending to diminish Roy's incredible work effort in the least, but to say that Roy had no offensive skills is just incorrect. While he was awkward and unathletic, he came to Georgetown with the same wondrous soft shooting touch that he maintains to this date.

Just so that we can be clearer, it is almost certainly true that Tyler Adams remains on scholarship but that the school has received an exemption from the NCAA that his scholarship does not count against Georgetown's scholarship limit.

Other thoughts as to how to move more scarves - obviously I think what the Stonewalls are doing is VERY IMPORTANT.
See if you can link to the Facebook pages for the class Reunions that are coming up at the end of May. I will put up a notice on the class of 1978 page and we should have other board participants who are on Facebook for different classes.
Get permission to have a booth in Healy Circle during Reunion weekend. The people attending Reunion are your best target customers since they care enough about the school to come back for Reunion.
Hoyas Unlimited generally send out gifts to Hoop Club donors at the higher levels. See if you can partner with the Athletic Department/Hoyas Unlimited to send the scarves out as gifts.
Make sure hoyajmw sees this thread. He has 70-80 different Hoya jackets - think about a combination of the Georgetown Hall of Fame and Hoarders - and he needs a scarf to go with each. P.S. his Secret Service code name is "Market Segment."

The scarf is not available at the bookstore. They sell their own versions for $30 each. The bookstore would certainly allow us to reach a larger audience, particularly parents, but I don't think we want to raise the price point so significantly. We don't make very much on each individual sale, but the goal has been to make it as affordable as possible and help us in our mission of building unity rather than trying to make a profit. We're now officially a non-profit organization as well, and although we need to continue raising funds to continue doing what we started this year, we don't want to do it by gouging people like the bookstore. I do appreciate the suggestion though, and perhaps there's a way to work out an agreement with them and still keep the price down. Since shipping to Texas (I just bought three) for a single scarf is $8, perhaps you could reach an agreement whereby the Bookstore would agree to sell for $23 each. Another possibility would be to see if the school would let you sell on campus during Freshman move in period. The combination of Freshmen wanting to fit in, parents who haven't quite figured out how much money four years at Georgetown is going to cost them and a cool item (the scarf) with money going to a good cause is as good a marketing proposition as one is ever going to see.

Is the scarf available at the Bookstore?
If not, have you investigated the possibility of selling them there? I imagine that you could hit a higher retail price point (convenience, no shipping, doting parents) and maintain your margin while enhancing the scarves ubiquity.

As an owner of a set of these discs, I can confirm that no Hoya fan should be without one. Plus, you should remember that all amounts spent at the auction in excess of the "fair value" can be deducted for purposes of calculating your income tax liability (contact your tax advisor )

On other, unrelated news, Andre Hawkins is looking for a personal injury attorney.

It's encouraging that III has been talking with the parents. If Oubre pops, would he be the first Texas recruit since Anthony Allen? What about David Allen? ;D

I feel your pain. This would likely be my attitude if Syracuse were playing USC. Go for a long walk tomorrow. Or play golf (weather permitting). Just do something to keep yourself occupied and stay away from the television. It just isn't worth the aggrevation. Nothing will ever be worse than the Villanova and Iowa losses, but this season is shaping up as a clear third with nothing else close. Somehow I'd never heard anything about the Iowa loss before. Ouch. www.hawkeyesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/080210aaa.htmlIn many ways, the Iowa loss was the most crushing loss ever. After Villanova, well we already had a national championship. But, pre-Ewing and pre the explosion of the Big East, 1980 felt like our George Mason year and we did not have a reasonable expectation that we would ever get back to that level. And to lose when we had a big lead and kept shooting reasonably well. It was beyond crushing.

Who gets Marquette's NCAA credits and $2M/game earnings from this tournament run? Old Big East or New Big East? Each of the basketball 7 bring their tournament credits with them. It is unclear, however, if they stay with the team or are partly shared with the new league. The real bonanza goes to UConn, Cinncinatti and South Florida, who share both Syracuse and Louisville's tournament credits.

On Monday and Tuesday nobody said a word.
On Wednesday, somebody brought up the game.
I fired that person and that seems to have shut down the comments.

The program has gotten out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament five times in the past 27 years. What happened on Friday was the historical norm (enough with the seeding argument -- the committee botched that bigtime this year, and the difference between higher and lower seeds continues to get smaller). This is what we are, and it really isn't so bad. Anything more is gravy. This is simply wrong. We have made it to the second weekend seven (not five) times in the last 27 years. Sweet 16s in 1995, 2001 and 2006, elite 8s in 1987, 1989 and 1996 and a final four in 2007.

Agree with both points. I am nervous about that, too. I don't mind a zone press, but as we've said over and over, if Markel gets into foul trouble, we can lose to anyone. Heck, if you want to press, bring in Bowen for a few minutes and go small for a stretch. But, if Markel gets a couple of front court fouls on defense, I will be throwing things at the TV, for sure. We have six losses. They can be broken down into three categories (understanding this a very simplistic way to look at the losses, and there were other reasons for each loss): 1. Defensive breakdown: Pitt and USF (the 2nd half). 2. Offensive breakdown: Marquette 3. Markel fouled out: Indiana, Villanova, Syracuse Illuminating and succinct post although I consider Pitt to be both an offensive and a defensive breakdown. I don't think that the press is a good call for us with this team. While Pitt got a few easy buckets against us early in the game, they really broke the game open when we went to a press (and this is when we had Greg) and picked up 5 or so easy baskets. Our half court defense is incredible and we should not trade the opportunity to play in the half court for a defensive structure that allows for the potential of easy buckets. Obviously too we increase our odds of fouling with the press and that is a killer for us too.

Probably the same people that don't have a good thing to say about Hopkins. The only good thing that can be said about Hopkins is that he usually wins the opening tip. I can't find anything else at this point. Mikael Hopkins Has played good defense all year. He has not rebounded well but he is part of the reason that people do not shoot well against us. Has significantly improved his free throw shooting. Hasn't sulked as his playing time has been reduced.

I miss Raff and Mike Gorman and Len Berman. I miss Bucky Waters I miss the Marv Albert and Bucky Walters broadcast team. Marv's quote from the first time that the Hoyas were on the ECAC game of the week, "Georgetown, a small Jesuit university nestled snugly against the rolling banks of the Potomac." And another Marv favorite. We beat Syracuse in the 1979 ECAC playoff to get into the NCAAs despite serious foul trouble to our entire starting front line behind the play of reserves Jeff Bullis and Ed Spriggs a formal Postal worker. After Spriggs emphatically rejected a Syracuse shot, Marv exclaimed "Mark that one returned to sender, Bucky."
