Greg might not be able to play, but tonight he showed some moves... dancing moves... So,7 of the 8 teams are staying at the Condado Plaza Hilton. Guess who is not? Best guess is that the Hoyas are staying in Jamaica.

Last night's "Close But No Cigar Award" goes to Stu Jackson who claimed that Aaron Bowen bore a close resemblance to Reggie Williams. Aaron Bowen looks nothing like Reggie Williams. On the other hand, he looks strikingly like David Wingate.

Some thoughts from Korea.
My first perpective is that the change in the way that defense is being called means that teams need a lot more guards in this type of game. A quick guard essentially has a free pass into the lane and there will be a lot of fouls on perimeter people. We will need more guards on the roster in the future.
Assuming we can shoot and that today's 6.7 from three is an outlier, the offense will be really good with Josh Smith on the floor. This is my 39th season of watching Hoya big men and he has the potential to be the most prolific scorer at the position that we have ever had. He has Roy's touch with Patrick's footwork. Plus he is just really wide and it is not really from fat. He absolutely needs to lose another 30-40 pounds to keep up on defense but that will only make his offense even better as he will still be wide and peoplw will have difficulty getting at the ball. The other thing that is different is that we made a much more consistent effort to get Josh the ball than we ever did with Roy.
I suspect that we will go offense/defense more than in any year in Hoya history. Reggie Cameron can clearly shoot. He swished about 8 straight threes in practice and the release is quick and reasonably high, but his defense is simply not there. As we were trying to close late, we tried to iso Smith and Cameron on the left side of the floor to play in and out. In a two point game, the defense will have to give up something,
Finally, I don't know if it was evident on TV, but I do not believe I have ever seen JTIII as unhappy with the refs - or actually one particular ref - as he was in this game.

In the gym. Seats 2200. This is our crowd. Quote from the gym guaranteed to annoy DFW "Georgetown always has the best uniforms". Hoyas just got on the floor. Josh Smith is not small, mobility questionable. First time I have seen Reggie Cameron who has drained at least 9 threes in a row. Domingo still falling off his jumper.

At least Korea is not in the midst of a super typhoon right now. Nasty typhoon! I am currently in a car driving south from Seoul on my way to Camp Humphreys. We have to get to the game very early due to base security. It is very strange to be playing a morning game, and for me the impact of jet lag on the teams will be one of the potential game changers. I so not know if I will be able to post from inside the arena, but if I can I will try and give people a sense of the atmosphere inside the arena.

There are two interpretations that would make our first practice date fine, either: You lose a day when you go west across the international date line, thus 43-1=42 or, Days are measured when the games are played in the US, thus it is 42 days. I think we're OK on this one.

Based on the backdrop to Andy Katz, the Hoyas should feel right at home since the venue looks like McDonough. The key will be to not confuse Oregon with Old Dominion.

I wonder if Georgetown will get more crowd support since 1) we're the underdog and 2) we have a better brand name in basketball (and more famous NBA alumni). Also, most diehard Oregon fans won't be traveling given the huge football game the night before. I'd think we hopefully can get some extra crowd support! Both schools have extremely limited ticket allotments, so which school travels better will be a non-issue.

Just to get technical for one moment, doesn't that make this a Nov 9th game, since 8 pm here is sometime early the following AM Korea time? Yes. Game time is 10:00 a.m. Seoul time on Saturday the 9th. Also the game is not really in Seoul since Camp Humphreys is 60 miles south of the city.

The game time is definitely 8 p.m. EST. The 7 on the Georgetown website was an estimate.

Is anyone going to this game in person? I'm trying to get two tickets, but Georgetown says they can't help me out. And I can't find tickets online either. Calling all Korean Hoyas or expats living in Seoul. Who's going to Camp Humphreys? #HoyaSaxa #WeAreGeorgetown The reason that there are not tickets available is because all attendees had to be pre-screened by the Department of Defense. Applications for prescreening had to be submitted in September. While I am fortunate to be attending the game, the logistics are still very much up in the air. The 7:00 p.m. EST tip off has not as yet been confirmed.

If you mean the even rarer Korea - Puerto Rico - Kansas trifecta then yes. C'mon, bro, don't you now have a trip to Arlington in mind for next April? It may be battered wife syndrome, but I refuse to consider Texas as a possibility. I am, however, willing to be surprised.

I will be there along with HoyaJMW. I will be completing the rare Korea-Puerto Rico double. You planning on the even rarer Korea-Puerto Rico-Texas trifecta? If you mean the even rarer Korea - Puerto Rico - Kansas trifecta then yes.

SFHoya99 beat me to it, but the whining in this thread may set a record for all time HoyaTalk absurdity.
Here is a player who has a skill set we both need and have an unmatched history of further developing. He is interested in us and we are interested in him. He seems to be having fun with recruiting. I probably would too.
We have sewn up a very good class early. Elbert would be the piece de resistance. Why in the world would we stop recruiting him?
The worst thing that could happen is that he goes elsewhere. The world will not end if he does.
And I'm betting he is a future Hoya.

How about Derrick Jackson - who left school in 1978 as the Hoyas' leading scorer - from Wheaton, Illinois. Or Kurt Kaull - also from Wheaton - who may not have had a scholarship (not sure) but was on a couple of the Ewing teams.
Note: Wheaton is a suburb of Chicago.

ajerseyguy, again. This guy is starting to work on my fatal nerves. Could someone please explain to me why I should be upset that a columnist continues to point out that we have a very large role in determining the future of our new league?
