My only criticism of that interview is that the kid interviewing needs to slow the heck down and annunciate lol. You’re not kidding. His diction is atrocious. I thought he was speaking a foreign language.

Good question. As many people say, the scholarships work themselves out. It is still highly likely someone transfers out. But in terms of NOT seeing anyone leave --- then there's the chance that Mutombo might be a candidate for a walk on (as financially Dikembe could pay his way). Though I don't like saying that. Also, it could be that Donald Carey only stays a year and not 2. Or Qudus takes the huge step and develops into a serious NBA Draft prospect like some think he can. More likely he won't develop that quickly, and will be here until his Junior year, but you never know. We learned, I think, that if someone is recruited, and an official visit would certainly constitute being recruited, they are considered “counters”; meaning they “count” against the scholarship limit notwithstanding whether or not they receive aid.

On The Dawgtalk interview of Coach Brown with Chris Wright and Austin Freeman, they both commented and expressed disappointment that Ryan had committed to Tennessee. It was matter of fact. I wonder if they have inside sources. It would be odd if they did not.

The bolded part is definitely true. But, I think that's the point. There is no expectation that the staff is going to pull in a somewhat random top 100 recruit. I mean, even the best recruiting programs still whiff on a lot of important targets. From the perspective of not getting one player, it's not a big deal. However, it is a big deal in the sense that (a) Georgetown has always stressed its tight family, (b) Dikembe Mutombo is part of that family and has always been (and still is) a big cheerleader for Georgetown, and (c) we basically have every advantage in recruiting Ryan, and we might miss out on him anyway. I think that last part is the driver of sentiment here. As I stated earlier in the thread, if we cannot pull in a guy like Ryan, with all the advantages we have, how are we going to fare recruiting other top 100 guys with no preexisting connection to Georgetown? I think people are more upset about how it reflects on the program as a whole - it is about more than recruiting one top 100 center. I also think this would matter less, if we didn't just lose an entire recruiting class to transfers and have such a big turnover this past year. I think in the case of Ryan it is the same as say landing D.C. kids. Sometimes your best advantage is also the thing that makes it impossible to land certain recruits in particular. In the case of legacy recruits, some guys no matter what just don't want to follow in their dad's footsteps no matter what you do. Similarly sometimes local kids no matter what you do want to get away from home. I respect those kids for making those tough decisions, but I don't think it's as simple as we should've landed Ryan because he's a legacy when arguably the reason we didn't land him is BECAUSE he's a legacy. This would be more credible had he not previously been seen as odds on to come to Georgetown. One wonders what his reasons would have been, in the end, for not choosing to come and if any of those might be the same ones that caused others to leave.

It really would not be a good look for someone who might be seen as an extended family member to appear to string GU along then go elsewhere. I can't help thinking Dikembe would have discouraged that. Of course Ryan can and should go where he wants and conduct his recruitment as he sees fit. Just sayin'.

Kyle Gauss 07/29/20 7:04 pm Originally considered a heavy Georgetown lead, Arizona State has done a great job making an extra push over the last few days and now seems poised to secure Billingsley’s commitment. Who is this Kyle Gauss dude? Looks to be a Temple guy; editor of “OwlScoop”. Not sure of his track record.

“He will only get better” is a hackneyed phrase which is applied inaccurately as often as not. But, in my opinion, it is merited in the case of Jordan Riley. His upside looks huge.

Here is the quote from Darrel Owens on FB "I think his film is a little misleading. I played him last week and I can tell u guys he will be a bull. I’ve been following him all four years of highschool and thought highly of him. His highschool coach and cousin is a good friend of mine. He’s strong as an ox and he can dunk on anybody at anytime. I’m glad he’s in the family. He’s a great kid also." More from Darrel Owens: “he switched schools his senior year so he basically went unnoticed being at catholic highschool in Baton Rouge. Also bounced around AAU teams that didn’t have his best interest. I noticed he turned the corner summer of his sophomore year and basically dominated the state this year with a state title to finish it off and MVP. The fans should chill. What has bringing in major talented kids got us the last couple of years besides headaches. This kid is pretty good and can definitely play on this level.” “also if the staff could bring in 4 five ⭐️ kids they would just like every other major school. Unfortunately we still have to develop and win to attract those kids at the present time. We don’t pay kids remember? It takes time to get back. It’s an oven not a microwaveable process.” If someone is good enough they get noticed. Take it from one who wasn’t and didn’t.

Villanova has a terrific strength and conditioning coach by the name of John Shackleton. Jenkins is not the only one of their players who improved greatly in that regard. In my opinion Shackleton is one of the keys to their success. A program has to have “buy in” and they have it across the board.

At the rate we’re going it might be as useful to speculate not just who the next commitment might come from but who the next to defect will be.

I guess this means we have another schollie? 🤗 Good point. Can't wait to fill it with another unrated recruit Mac McClung T. J. Berger. That’s a wash.

Colombia? That’s a concern.
On another subject, if I’m not wrong his father is a co founder of And1 and his H.S. Coach at Westtown Friends; does seem like a walk on. He wouldn’t have gotten a dime from Penn.
