I also have to say I greatly enjoyed the 7'2 Experience knocking down a jumper in the first half. I think that was his 4th this year (he's hit two). How unstoppable will he be once that becomes a regular part of his game?

"Who was the dude PE Sr was talking to? We were thinking he was a former Hoya but couldn't tell." There were two tall dudes sitting near PE Sr, both of about the same age as Patrick Sr. Anyone know who they were?

Against a short team such as Cincy, when we have a center at 7'2" and a very good power forward at 6'8", there is no reason that we should give up more than 1-2 open threes. I was frustrated that several (and I mean several) of the open threes happened as a result of a Gtown defender pinching down into the paint to help the post defender. Totally unnecessary. Again, Cincy shot very well and that accounted for most of the made threes but there was no reason for Cincy to have open looks.
Hibbs in the post, Oden in the post, Gray in the post, Noah in the post...OK, double team him and leave the occassional three uncontested. Play a team with a perimeter oriented, 6'8" center and there shouldn't be any doubling the post and very few open threes.
Not blowing this out of proportion but the perimeter D wasn't great.

Anytime a team hits that many three's at that kind of percentage, I don't think you can put much blame on the defense. As I have said, I didn't watch the game, but 10-12 at one point is ridiculous......I'm sure there were a few three's that we could have contested a little better, but they were shooting out of their minds.

Interesting note, as the team went into the locker roam after warmups before the game, one of the AD people (Kim Frank I think) rushed and stopped the assistants and said "Wait, no one told Jeremiah that his dad is here", interesting that it would be that important

Paul Tagliabue was sitting coutside right at midcourt. Saw PE Sr speaking with him for quick second. That may be what you all are referring to.

I thought the defense was mediocre. Why oh why we switch Roy onto the ballhandler on every high screen, I cannot understand. This happened about 10 times in the second half. Why even go through the formality of making them pick if the defensive switch is going to be automatic? We might as well just put Roy on the guard to begin with -- no difference.
This fulfills my obligation to say something negative about our super talented and rapidly improving team.

If i were Doc, coach of the celtics, but I made a special effort to get to my son's game... for all we know he PROMISED JR that he'd be at the game... I'd want him to know I got there. THat's really cool. What a great experience for all the guys on the team, to have Dads around... guys like Pat Sr., Doc Rivers and JT! Unbelievable really.

I'm not sure I agree with the assessment that our perimeter defense was poor. I attended the game, then watched it off Tivo (the benefits of having a wife who travels for business). We played zone most of the game. The ESPN FC announcers (Criqui and the other guy) seemed to think this was to allow Roy to rest a little on defense. When you look at the first half, most of the threes came from Sikes, who played the 5-spot. When your "center" (and I use the term lightly for a 6'8" guy) runs off screens and hits threes, you're going to be a bit of a tough matchup.
Some of the threes, particularly in the second half, resulted from working the ball inside out against the zone and finding seams. I think we were willing to make those shots available and concentrate on dominating the painted area. When you play zone, you know you are conceding certain shots.
When a team hits 58% from 3-point range, you kind of have to tip your hat. They were hot, and they made good decisions. They also did nothing inside, turned the ball over a lot, and didn't do much in transition. So, we won three out of the four important defensive battles. I don't think this is the time to panic.

I think Cinci just got hot- they were hitting banked 3s, 3s over Roy, 3s over everyone, open 3s.... they will never be that unconscious again.

Maybe going into next year Jeremiah will work on his shot ala Jessie and Tyler who both made serious improvements.
As bad as Dajuan was on the offensive end, he had his best defensive game and hustled. A couple of great swats and a nice strip on the d end and the fantastic save(very similar to the one in the last game which went to JWall and ended in a Roy slam) that led to Jessie's sweet slam. I'm thinking today was a fluke for the most part.
Did Roy really play the whole 2nd half? I'm not sure but I bet that'd be the first time he'd ever done that. Great game and the stamina shown could be very helpful in a closer game.

It is cool that Doc comes to games, but I'm sure Celtic fans don't share in our enthusiasm. I haven't checked, but I'd bet the people who are claiming that we played poor perimeter defense are the same people that used to complain about turnovers. These people may have a point, but it is tiny compared to the improvement the Hoyas have shown. As long as we have a chance in March and everything comes together, I'll be a happy Hoya. The ignore feature in HoyaChat could be better than the ignore feature in HoyaTalk!

Again, Cincy shot very well and that accounted for most of the made threes but there was no reason for Cincy to have open looks. You know it was a similar problem to what we were doing in the Hartford game. We were switching a lot between a 2-3 zone and a man to man it seemed...but the common thread was the aggressive play on the perimeter and the pinching, and that leaves the wing open. The aggressive perimeter D worked great against ND b/c we were messing with their ballhandlers so much they could never get any decent perimeter movement. Moreover, Roy would eat Tory Jackson alive if he penetrated past the over-play. So we shut down everything. What Cincy does NOT have that Pitt for instance did in the repetoire is the floater that can neutralize Hibbert's inside presence. Basically...don't expect those guys to drive to the hoop. There needed to be more discipline, especially in the 2-3 zone defense, in keeping track of the 3-point shooter (if you go back to the beginning of the Depaul game it happened a few times too...Draelon got hot and was making everything at the end of the half, but the lapses were there too). It's interesting to hear Cincy's season 3-point stats, I wanted to look that up before I wrote my recap. I was thinking all during the game--you know this is the team that fought back from down big and beat WVU last weekend...that took Cuse to the wire after being down big...I dunno what it is exactly with them, but full credit for finding a way to keep it close when there were about 3-4 points where we were maybe a basket away from putting the hammer down. (EDIT Short version--Cincy did shoot the lights out, but there is room for improvement in the perimeter D regardless.)

What was more impressive is that Jeff played basically through the entire GAME, and didn't show that much fatigue at the end. Perhaps sitting Roy early in the first helps the problem of the frustrating late fades that are the cause for all of our losses (except Pitt).
