Nova stinks!!!!!!! Joey Brown and Kevin Braswell would have killed Nova tonight and those two guys would not make my list of the 100 greatest Hoyas of all time.

harlemhoya -- what about our guy from Harlem, Jessie Sapp? I'd like him to be a little more offensive-minded, taking it to the basket.

We win this game with (1) a cut throat point guard, or (2) consistent FT shooting, or (3) a dominating rebounder, or (4) a deadly 3-point shooter who is not the PG, or (5) any number of other things we don't seem to have.

and sometimes even if you are loaded with talent to the max you dont win because the other team has better strategy. see 1987 fiesta bowl.

I agree with the premise of the thread. A great point guard with the handles to break pressure and make a team pay for overplaying would've won this game.
The worst thing about this game is I'm sure Jamie Dixon was watching.....and every other big east coach.
The blue print on how to stop this team is out.....it'll say something about jtIII on how he adjusts

not to worry. i believe marquette pressed us last year with success and look what we went on to do. we will be fine. better now than come tourney time. it is the next fine defensive strategy we havent seen that we should be worried about.

I'd like to pre-emptively state that anyone that Thinks Jon Wallace can't dribble is blind. Granted, he didn't do that great tonight vs. the press, but not due to lack of skill.

Sometimes u need a gurad with ONIONS. We dont lose this game with Sleepy, Duren, Smith, Iverson, Page and Dave Edwards.

hoya clap,
nobody, especially not me, is saying that Jon can't dribble. But, and I played point guard in college, he lacks the explosion and the craftiness on his handle to break a press all by himself.
Jon is a very good half court point guard. But he's not going to break pressure for you. And that's what we needed tonight.

Daytona -- point guard in college, huh? Did you start out at ND and wind up at Ok State? (just a joke)

But he's not going to break pressure for you. And that's what we needed tonight. If he did, he'd be a 1st round draft pick. I'd also say that we could have used that tonight, but in lieu of a pressbreaking ballhandler, there's little stopping us from an effective pressbreaking offensive set except for a lack of preparation. As mentioned elsewhere on this board, As a team we have the capabilities to break a press.

Filo, I'll tell you a story....I played for a d-II school in conn....and after my playing days I was living in hartford and I always played at this YMCA. So who comes into the gym one day? ?? none other than mr. credit card himself. So, and we played in school at the same time and I knew what kind of player he was, he comes in and he's jacking shots up from darn near half-court. We lost because he wouldn't pass the ball. So we're on the sidelines, and I say.... "Doug, why don't you pass the ball?" Gottlieb: "I feel more confident in us winning if I'm taking the shots." Me: "But Sutton NEVER let you shoot the ball. Don't you think there's a reason for that?" Gottblieb: "Sutton had no idea what I could do with a basketball. He held my game back." Priceless

Hoya Clap,
I feel you, and I don't think we have this problem next year. Jon was clearly tired out there, because he didn't have an adequate back-up....that was clearly a problem and it maifested itself when he missed that free throw late in the game.
Next year, we'll have wright. And even if he doesn't have the experience, he'll serve as an extra ball-handler that can back jon up. And he has the scoring ability to play alongside jon. Plus, Austin will give us that shooting guard capable of lighting a team up.
