if u keep up with this sixer stuff i'm going to hammer wallace listen, i understand disappointment with wallace's play, but that is not the sole reason we lost and it doesn't mean we can't win with our current personel. like i mentioned before, we didn't have a "true point guard" last year and we went to the sweet sixteen. we need everyone, including the guards to look themselves in the mirror and just decide they are going to play their game regardless of the score and regardless of whether or not the shots are falling or the backdoor passes are finding their target. We need guys who are going to attack on offense after getting the ball over halfcourt in a zone press. We need our athleetes to be athletic... what we don't need is Kevin Braswell or some magical "true point guard".

there are a bunch more teams in the BE with starting PGs and you had to go with two freshmen...
i like fields....not so sure that you'd want the frosh running the O.

what we don't need is Kevin Braswell........(I agree with this)
wallace is a system player and when the system is not working he does not have the athletic ability to create his own shot for himself or his teammates. I like the kid but we are blinded by the fact that he plays for our team. He is not that good.

I like the kid but we are blinded by the fact that he plays for our team. He is not that good. Wallace is very good for what he is. He is a better player than many guards for certain teams and certain situations. Unfortunately, he is not much of a one on one creator. It doesn't mean he isn't good. Players aren't defined as good or bad by how they do in one on one on a playground. It's a skill and a valuable one, but don't ignore Jon's other skills. His game isn't perfect, but frankly, I've missed your posts after wins where you laud his smart play, clutch plays and beautiful shot.

The first thing here that I have a problem with is the original comment in the thread, "Nova stinks." What I watched tonight wasn't a team that stinks. I don't care who they've lost to this year - I sat the same distance from the court at the Florida game last March as I did tonight at the Verizon Center, and I can honestly say that I've never seen a team play HARDER or want to win a game more (referring to visible effort) than 'NOVA did tonight.
We know these players are capable of winning games against good teams. I think it's useless to talk about which players would have won tonight. We have who we have and they can do what they can do, and we can talk about how they can improve.

Hoya Clap, I feel you, and I don't think we have this problem next year. Jon was clearly tired out there, because he didn't have an adequate back-up....that was clearly a problem and it maifested itself when he missed that free throw late in the game. Next year, we'll have wright. And even if he doesn't have the experience, he'll serve as an extra ball-handler that can back jon up. And he has the scoring ability to play alongside jon. Plus, Austin will give us that shooting guard capable of lighting a team up. I agree Jon was tired out there, and part of that was JT3 playing him 36 mins in the blowout against ND and not resting him until there were only 3 mins left in the game. ND had emptied there bench 4 minutes earlier and we could have started resting Wallace well before that - especially knowing he was going to need his legs 100 percent for the Nova pressure. Plus it would have given Rivers and Crawford more pt experience if Wallace had rested.

The lack of court presence and sensing opposing players coming from behind to get steals was disturbing for BOTH teams. There were experienced guards as culprits--Wallace and Nardi, and inexperienced guards doing this. What the hell is it going to take for a player to realize opposing teams will hustle and chase you down?
Wallace had some really bad turnovers and nothing to do with being tired--they were lazy and careless--as did Jeff, as did Summers, and the pure look of fear/terror on Rivers face was priceless-he had no business being in this game the way he played. Screwing up is one thing--being afraid and not playing is another.
In addition to turnovers how many crappy passes were deflected or knocked out of bounds due to being easily telegraphed by players or just thrown so softly/slowly that a player could race from 3pt line to halfcourt and get to it?
This was type of loss that has been Hoya hoops in last 10 years. When I think of this game--this is symbol of mediocrity and disgust that haunted me during Pops final years, Esherick era, and really makes me wonder if this program will ever get over the top? I think they will--but too much more of this junk and I'm really going to wonder if I'll ever see a day when GU comes out and plays good basketball for the majority of year and makes people beat them instead of handing them the game with careless play.
This is type of game that will continue to haunt this program and prevent it from elevating. The minute this type of game is ommitted from Hoyas season-then we know they are on track to climb up to next level. Until then--GU is a program trying to become something again instead of established as a power and threat--as we think it can/will be. Wright and Freeman are coming--but it doesn't matter who is coming if you don't instruct players to attack and punish people who pressure you.

EXACTLY! I was thinking, with Chris Wright on this team - we don't lose. This game shows how much talent J-Wall really has. He just doesn't have the ball skills when pressured....at least right now.

btw - nova doesn't stink. they did what they always do against us and i can see where they may be pretty good in a short while... we just don't have the guard play to keep up with quick guards; although sapp should've played the point and would've been more effective.

I question if we had the personnel to win this type of game. Nova did not play well but played with hustle and were clearly quicker as a team than we were. I wonder if we have the kind of guards this year to put it all together.
On the other hand, it's up to III to design a game plan that takes advantage of our stengths. He MUST work on this for us to be successful long term.

Does anyone else laugh when reading the posts of those who claim to be 1) Kenner League coaches; 2) former Division 1 point guards; etc?

I agree with the premise of the thread. A great point guard with the handles to break pressure and make a team pay for overplaying would've won this game. The worst thing about this game is I'm sure Jamie Dixon was watching.....and every other big east coach. The blue print on how to stop this team is out.....it'll say something about jtIII on how he adjusts The fact that Dixon and other coaches were watching won't be such a big deal. After the first few games the team allegedly couldn't figure out how to shoot their way out of a sagging zone. Now, they can clearly do that. It's more of a matter of the Hoyas beating themselves than being "out-schemed."
