it is clear that this team has been coached to break the press with the pass. I don't think III has given Wallace (or anyone else) the green light to attack the press with the dribble. it appears he hasn't given the team the green light to attack the press once it's been broken.
why not just start a thread that says..."If we had better players, we'd be a better team"...we have what we have..of course if wallace was as solid and consistent as he is and at the same time also had an unbelievable ability to drive and dish...then yes, he'd be better, the team would be better, and we'd win more games.
wallace is not the problem with this team and did not lose this game.

I don't think III has given Wallace (or anyone else) the green light to attack the press with the dribble. it appears he hasn't given the team the green light to attack the press once it's been broken. It is a zone press. What they are trying to make you do is put your head down and try to dribble through it. What they do then is trap you or take a charge. We needed our big guys to flash high at mid court right away instead of waiting for JW or Sapp to get into trouble to do so. Then, you can punish the press by driving the ball to the basket once you've gotten the ball over midcourt since you have numbers. We never once tried to take it to them after breaking the press, which would have at least gave them a reason to stop pressing. I think it was tough because our guys started to lose confidence in their ball handling skills once they started to turn it over and the lead began to shrink. Give credit to 'Nova for playing a gritty game. I'm sure we'll be ready to take it to them when we travel to Wachovia in February.

ok, i'll play along...aside from James and Price, which current Big East PGs would you rather have running the Princeton O?
or are all the rest of the starting PGs in the Big East great backups as well? remember...with most of the guys out there...you get more flash, but you also get more turnovers.

I wish the TO part was true, but so far this season it hasn't been. Wallace is turning the ball over at a very high rate.

we win this game with dean berry who else could "we win" this game with? a "true point guard" from yates? oh, oh...i know.. i know... matt causey... do we win this game with matt causey... oh wait, oh wait... ray reed too? put a sock in it harlem or sixer or both. we win this game if our guys make free throws or if any body (not just guards) would try to take their man off the dribble, draw help and then kick it out or down low. our guys just lost their confidence when things started to go poorly. They didn't feel confident enough to take their man because they had turned over the ball too much already. The real problem is not the personel... it is the confidence factor. They need to be able to turn around and go on a run after falling behind or giving away part of a lead. They need to believe they are that team that blew out notre dame. Now THAT was confidence.

HoyaNyr - i agree with most of what you said. i think III needs to decide that he wants to attack the press. to me, seems clear that tonight he was coaching to break the press, then set up the O -- he was content to not break the press.
I'm sure the players would be more than receptive to attack the press if they were given the green light. And I think they would have had success against Nova in doing so -- especially considering Nova had their bigs in foul trouble most of the game.
That said, I really don't think our guys had trouble breaking the press. I'd like to see the turnover count that resulted directly from the press. Seems to me that almost all the turnovers came when we were running our offense -- not due to the press.

When wallace passed the ball to Green on a backdoor cut against Notre Dame. Let me ask you something sixer, did you think the offense worked ok last year with no point guard?
