Does WVU publish where Bob Huggins goes for happy hour? Could be a raucous crowd on a Friday night.

It's on the schedule strip on the front page, but there's no reference to a link (at least I'm not seeing it) and it doesn't look like anyone else has mentioned it but according to syracuse.com, Rothstein reported Georgetown at Syracuse on Saturday, December 14.

How far in advance are the good MTEs set? I’m just curious, but honestly better to get into one of the middling ones than this. They are eating up their good will fast. There will always be a cupcake or two in a season especially when putting together a roster that needs time to gel, but not facing even remotely p6 level competition is a waste of time as it doesn’t raise the bar. There needs to be at least some kind of incline leading up into the conference season. We should be facing at least one team from each major conference or equivalents. I know that people complained that the big 12 scheduled a ton of cupcakes which worked out metrics wise, but I would really not like to go that route and it was a very weird season bids-wise.

There needs to be at least some kind of incline leading up into the conference season. The elite events (Maui, NIT Top-Off, and now the NIL-fueled Players Era Festival) are now as many as two years out, the next five (Battle 4 Atlantis, Jimmy V Classic, Empire Classic, Jumpman Invitational, Hall of Fame) are filled soon after the preceding Final Four. What's holding Georgetown up on these? 1. The name doesn't sell like it used to. 2. Much like the minor bowls, a lot of these in-season brackets are now run through ESPN Events who are looking for ESPN-friendly schools to showcase. 3. I'm sure it's a lower priority, but the ability to sell tickets to these destinations is a factor. Those games at the erstwhile Patrick Ewing Invitational in Jamaica didn't draw much of a GU contingent. 4. Also lower on the priority scale but likely a concern: if the Hoyas don't do well in a more traditional four or eight game tournament for whatever reason (e.g, going 0-2 or 1-2 against stronger teams) it could hurt them on the bubble if they were to contend. Then again, it's difficult to see where two Quad 4 wins at Capital One Arena will help. The 2023-24 Hoyas were 8-1 vs Quad 4 teams and 1-22 versus everyone else.

we need a thumbs down emoji what a waste this will probably be a free game the least Georgetown could do is make it relevant with American, GWU and Howard with a 2 day double header and call it the Battle for DC

Ed never was the best scheduler at PC either. I was cautiously optimistic that he’d improve that here. But so far it’s been Ewing 2.0 in terms of the scheduling.

The argument against needing to "gel" is that is going to be every single year now. We are always going to be incorporating a bunch of new kids from one year to the next. As a season ticket holder, Ed can't be shocked when people don't show up en masse to watch these. We have lacked for imagination long enough. Let's get this local thing going. At least save us from playing schools that we have no tie to (prior coach, local, alumni coach, etc.). This year should be some collection of Hampton, GW, American, Howard, UMD, Mason, WVU, Cuse, James Madison, Richmond, ND, VCU and maybe Penn State. That is your OOC. Make it that way every single year for all I care. Maybe through in a close in Patriot league (non-American) and Ivy and call it a day. This isn't that hard.

Maryland and Georgetown have issues, I get it. GW still has heat with Georgetown, for whatever reason. The one which confounds me year after year is George Mason. Georgetown literally opened the Patriot Center (now Eagle Bank Arena) almost 40 years ago and there's been nothing since: no return game, no discussions, nothing. A home and home series is accessible to both fan groups, saves a guarantee fee, and gets Mason on a larger TV platform (something that has eluded them with the A-10's ESPN+ package) Even a road game stays under the hegemony of Monumental Sports as they manage Eagle Bank Arena. GMU could use the attention. They haven't won the A-10 since 2008, haven't seen the NCAA since 2011, and its last NIT was in 2009. They won 20 games last season for the first time in over a decade but averaged just 3,922 a game. For those who say it can't be done, know that for a four year run from 2006 to 2010, JT III was putting together some of the greatest non-conference schedules in school history. Instead of 19 home games in an empty arena, he went on the road, and got some good home crowds on the return game. Took a couple of losses to get better, but they got better. All of these were home and home series: Navy James Madison Oregon Illinois Fairfield Vanderbilt Duke Michigan Memphis Old Dominion Tulane

I dont buy the ESPN thing, no other Big East team is having problems. I appreciate you have this as number 4, and you make the argument against the point in the second half of the blurb, but I find it hard to believe this is the reason. The committee has made it abundantly clear it will punish bubble teams who don't challenge themselves in the non-conference. The only way Quad 4 wins dont hurt is if you win by 50 to prop up your computer metrics. And even then you're treading water. And unfortunately that leads to the most logical answers: 1. Cooley doesnt think he's built a roster good enough to compete with those teams 2. He's so focused on filling out the roster he hasn't focused on schedule (and basically cant even answer number 1 yet until he knows whether he has a viable center) 3. Fears getting embarrassed in a tournament hurts his brand / recruiting abilities before the team is ready. Now I strongly disagree with all of this because on the off chance your team surprises to the upside, you've essentially given them no chance to be a viable bubble team based on the non-conf schedule. But I'll admit the schedule is the least of our problems at this point. I'll worry about that when we have a NCAA capable roster held back by the schedule

Fairfield was a Top 175 team last year, but have had a lot of roster turnover. Still this probably will be the toughest OOC game other than vs P5 teams.

I get the frustration from season ticket holders that a home slate lacking any kind of quality OOC opponents isn't great for attendance purposes. But until we start beating inferior teams comfortably and decisively on a pretty consistent basis, I just can't get worked up over not putting together a more difficult schedule. The Maryland series is a step in the right direction for local rivalry purposes.
I know Ed's not been here for all of it, but I'm sick and tired of not being able to figure out the likes of Holy Cross, American, Dartmouth, Navy, etc. every November and then reading the complaints about why we aren't scheduling harder opponents. Beat ALL the OOC teams you're supposed to beat, show a pulse in Big East play, and then let's talk about scheduling up. We are still a long way from arriving at a March where our SOS might hold us back from bigger goals.

We are still a long way from arriving at a March where our SOS might hold us back from bigger goals. I am not a Georgetown alum, but i am a college basketball fan. I would love for Georgetown, GWU, Howard, American to all have top 50 programs and have a OOC schedule full of other top 100 teams and a level of increased intra-DC competition. But THAT AINT HAPPENING IN REAL LIFE. Considering how far Georgetown has fallen and how much the college game has changed with free agency and NIL, increasing level of Big East competition coupled with Georgetown's academic standards; I wonder if we will see a 20 win season and NCAA Tourney anytime soon. But as a fan of the game i continue to support and donate to the Program because I can still see 10 decent basketball games per season. I buy the 10 pack of games and donate to get the seat upgrades and as a minimum that is enough for me. As of today, there are 5 OOC games left to be scheduled and I expect all of the teams to be in the KenPom range of 200-360. Georgetown will give free tix to 1 or 2 of these games to get people in the door. I hope folks/the casual fans go, and take your children, but i doubt it will be me. I am waiting on schedule dates but I already have the 10+games i hope to see this season. $200 for 10 seats and $100 program donation gets me 10 lower level games at $30/seat. I am happy with this with a quiet hope that Georgetown can improve the program. If not, I can still see the other talented teams of the Big East when they come to DC. Villanova Villanova/Dr. Susan Notre Dame Butler Creighton Marquette Providence Seton Hall St. Johns UConn Xavier PS - If I were in charge - I would rather schedule American, GWU and Howard as a series of round robin doubleheaders as the DC Invitational. This would do so much more for the program, ticket sales, recruiting than the KenPom 300+teams that are currently on the OOC schedule.

As an alum, I realize it is going to take winning to get more fans like yourself to fill the building. You're the type of fan we need to attract and most (not you) will only come to see high level comp & winning. I have a hard time giving away my tickets to those early games when I have a conflict and to go and watch us struggle against a school like Dartmouth is painful. I don't really have a point here other than to say, it has been a really touch last 8 years. I hope we figure it out.
