Meanwhile, the UConn online fan base is whining… There was another classic blame and hate on Val from other UConn fans. I wonder how long it will take people to realize a lot of these attacks have at least an element if not majority undertone of misogyny. She’s not a dictator. There’s a million factors at play between the networks, teams, other occupants of arenas professional and collegiate. People complaining she doesn’t get them more money don’t live in reality or understand that football is basically all of these new conference deals. And even if so, UConn trying to leave again does not earn them any favors from the BE office.

I don't think they really consider it. Somebody has to play DePaul last. Three of the last four teams to wrap with them were UConn, MU, and Creighton. Last year was Seton Hall. Disagree. When we weren't a doormat, we finished the season with a compelling match-up. IIRC, it was frequently Villanova. Then when we became uncompetitive that changed. At least that is my observation. We really haven't played a doormat to finish a season in a while: 2024: St. John's (arguably should have been a tournament team) 2023: Creighton (6 seed in NCAA tournament) 2022: Xavier (won NIT) 2021: Connecticut (7 seed in NCAA tournament) 2020: Villanova (would have likely been 3-5 seed w/o COVID) 2019: Marquette (5 seed in NCAA tournament) Etc. So it's not as bad as it might seem. But, yes, being a better team will get the best late-season timeslots, dates, and matchups if all else is equal. Part of it too, is that the Big East has generally been very strong the last several years, so unless you lose the DePaul lottery, you're generally playing a pretty good team no matter who it is. And with Holtmann now at DePaul, I am not so sure DePaul will be a doormat for very long. Of course, the irony is that WE were the doormat many of those teams likely did not want to play last, at least from 2021 forward.

The Big East tried to manufacture a meaningful regular season finale with Georgetown and Villanova playing each other 4 times in the first 5 seasons starting in 2014. Hoyas didn't hold up their end obviously.
