Absolutely think we are a much better team than last year. We can defend at an average/above average level. Just feel like a defensive center (even a backup to sorber) would have taken us from bottom of the big east to middle of the league. Epps and Mack are going to be tough to watch defensively. Would have been nice to have someone to erase those mistakes. what is better about the roster than last season?? If RB had played in the ivy league last season I'm pretty sure his numbers would have been comparable if not better and I'm not a RB fan. I think Styles and Peavy is an even trade especially offensively and after that you have two transfers that we HOPE can be helpful. I do like Sorber POTENTIAL but he's not going to come in and be a difference maker his freshman year. I defense might even be worse with two small guards on the floor, yes Peavy had good defensive numbers but let's not get carried away. We can ALL want what's best for the program and still be honest about reality WE ALL thought this off-season would have been much better. So even if you think it's a little better than last season what does that get us? 5-6 conference wins??

I'm assuming/expecting that the guys we are bringing in at the wing spot will be able to knock down shots. As for the big man....not looking good obviously, but still hoping he pulls a rabbit of his hat. and at the same time if you're really paying attention we are not even favorites for any of the TOP local kids in the DMV... we have a chance with the Lewis kid but I wouldn't say we are favorites for any of them... so we haven't made a splash in the portal or on the circuit.

I'm hoping that the whole will be greater than the sum of its part this upcoming season. IMO, that depends upon coaching.

What evidence is there for this? Do people really believe we have higher academic standards than teams we're competing against for recruits? This isn't the 1990s (not that it was even true then - Allen Iverson, Victor Page, etc.). Surely you don’t think Georgetown doesn’t have high academic standards. We let in 9% of applicants. Georgetown offered admission to 12 percent of its applicants in 2024. --AdminI don’t think it’s much of a secret that academic admission standards for basketball recruits are completely detached from those of typical GU students. We do, as far as I know, make the kids go to class and do schoolwork when they get on campus, though, which is not the case everywhere.

And I would add that the more lenient admissions standards do not apply just to basketball--it extends to other sports. When I was in high school, there was a track star a year or two older than me, who had a sub-1000 SAT and he got admitted. He decided to go elsewhere. This was a long time ago, but I imagine the same thing still applies.

So why can't he pull off that kind of haul here when by all accounts he has more NIL $ to work with? He has the 24th ranked transfer class (with room to go higher) including one of the top PGs on the market. Whos to say he cant? I guess we could have added more transfers to boost that number but it ties in with a top 20 freshman class. I would say top 25 transfer class with a top 20 freshman class (not including McKenna or 3 potential additions) is pretty good.

Losses: Styles Cook Massoud Brumbaugh Heath Bristol Bacote Mutombo Grant Montgomery Kazor Additions: Sorber Mulready Williams Williams McKenna Burks Mack Peavy X X X More growth from Epps/Fielder I think Mack is a significant upgrade over Roman but if you want to argue they are similar, neither of us will know for awhile so I will sit that one out. Peavy gives us a defensive stopper on the wing that we did not have last year. Obviously a lot of the other talent includes players with significantly higher upside but time will tell on how they perform. I find it hard to believe the team is worse with the caliber of athletes they are acquiring.

It's going to be hard to be on the top of many top recruit lists until the season starts. Cooley didn't show anything in year 1 to get locals or anyone excited. That can all change this coming year if the product improves. He did very well to keep the recruits in place with a big assist to early signing day. Next year won't be quite so forgiving if things don't improve.

This is why I don’t use Twitter. Just foolishness. I agree that this sounds like unreliable conspiracy theory ... but what restrictions are there on a kid getting into the portal, committing to one school ... and then changing his mind to commit to another? Is that allowed???

Why does it take so long Georgetown to make announcements for new staff members? The Eisley rumor has been going around for about 2 weeks and it sounds like a done deal, but still no announcement from the school. Do they have some really extensive on boarding process that takes weeks for someone to be actually officially hired?

This is why I don’t use Twitter. Just foolishness. If Hurley accepts the Lakers job, you can be sure that a lot of high majors are going to kick the tires on UConn players, transfers and recruits that will all be eligible to transfer for 30 days after Hurley leaves.

Exactly. I'm not saying there's a good chance, but Formal Hoya's logic seems pretty reasonable to me. Assuming Hurley goes there is no doubt Eisley's going to be putting in a call to Reed

"College basketball transfer portal rankings 2024: Jamir Watkins, Florida State's leading scorer, to return Here are the top 80 players who enterted the transfer portal during college basketball's 2024 offseason... 15. Malik Mack Old school: Harvard | New school: Georgetown Mack's efficiency dipped down the stretch, but it was still a phenomenal freshman season for the 6-1 guard, who averaged 17.2 points and 4.8 assists per game. The Ivy League Rookie of the Year finished with 18 points and six assists at Boston College and scored 27 at Indiana during the first month of his college career. It was an impressive peek at what he's capable of against high-major opposition. Mack should be a featured member of Georgetown's offensive attack under second-year coach Ed Cooley." www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-transfer-portal-rankings-2024-jamir-watkins-florida-states-leading-scorer-to-return/1 Hoya in the top 80 transfers of this offseason

It’s great we got a couple nice pick ups. Still: no center.

lol. Andrew and team really leaning into the “heel” persona. Maybe it’s getting them more traffic. Negative vibes seem to win in these times …
