One of the few games I have seen this year. Discouraging to be behind by 10 to start. It didn't seem that the Hoyas would ever score. From then on the Hoyas made a game out of it. Some careless plays did not help. But I like Fielder! Too bad he got caught up in foul trouble. But a good game to watch, but I missed the last 7 minutes, because my tape ran out. I would have been frustrated anyway.

He didn’t have a summer last year? Went straight from spring to fall? Too bad the username dense is already taken... Please explain - are you intimating that Fielder wasn’t allowed to improve last summer?

I think what every normal fan of Georgetown is thinking is that after the last few games Drews future is an exciting positive. Yet you have looked for a negative in it - that it is a failure by him and/or the coaching staff that this didn’t happen sooner? It’s just such a weird take, but expected from a troll who just has an agenda on certain coaches and players and is not a fan of the program wishing for good things.

What are you talking about, I’ve said plenty of nice things about Fielder, particularly lately (including during this game thread). Pretty sure, like all players, Fielder was able to improve last summer. I was just poking fun at the original poster who for some reason made it seem like Fielder didn’t have the opportunity to improve last summer.

Simply that another summer on campus will help Fielder build strength, learn when to be aggressive on defense, and improve. Also see Johnnyjones and Etomic's replies.

Good to see so many things start to come together in this game. Good freshman recruiting class coming next year with a good pg / combo guard with size, shooting wing (redshirting), a big who plays similar to Fielder but taller and loves to block, and another 6'7" point wing (more of a slasher than shooter at this point). Two are top 100 and one 150. Still two open slots as it stands today (would like to see Montgomery get a scholarship as he can shoot and is okay on defense). I agree and have been saying that these are the kind of games we will win most of next year b/c of better athleticism, length, rim protection, and overall the familiarity that comes from having a year under your belt. Hard to believe that we have maybe only one game left. Maybe. How much fun would it be to go out in 2 (or more) games? I know, I know, not likely but I think we're just about to the place where, on any given Sunday...

Next to impossible to win with defense that bad. The degree of difficulty on our average possessions/shots vs theirs was staggering. Great 3 point shooting and mediocre StJ play kept the game from being our typical beat down. A lot of work to do this off-season… hm

Yeah - it's wild how we can give up easy buckets in transition, in the half court, and even after made baskets.
So tough to win when you're handicapping yourself five or six uncontested layups a game.

was at MSG. crowd was into it. more hoyas than i expected in the arena. there was actually a faint let’s go hoyas chant in the second half that could be heard after i think bristol banked in the 3 at the buzzer to cut it to 2. fielder played terrific and deserves the game ball. epps makes a lot of bad choices but he put this team on his back for stretches and kept us in the mix. styles, heath and massoud were all decent today, and gave us some big 3s as well. not sure what happened to brumbaugh but he made cooley very upset with one of his shots (which was a poor choice) and a bad inbounds pass and he never seemed to recover. With all these good things our defense is PUTRID. And it’s not lack of effort, at least not today. it is MENTAL LAPSES and LACK OF ATHLETICISM plain and simple. We will never win because our defense is so bad.
and for st. john’s they are very lucky to have a guy like ledlum. is a bruiser we could not handle down low. jenkins is an excellent player too.

I wish Cooley had the coaching will to pull Epps and bark in his ear when he either makes a clearly careless play or, in a four possession span, takes two of: an unwise drive into traffic or a jumpshot while well guarded before the last 5 seconds in the shot clock. No good outcome for us if Epps keeps doing that, however much he might be our scorer. Having not done this for pretty much the whole season has stunted team growth. Cooley pulled Epps twice for quick barks today and put him back in. Epps would change for a few possessions and revert to his habits. By college changing habits is a long process. Hopefully it will be something worked on over summer. It will be interesting with Mulready here next year as he is another 6'4" on ball point, but also shooting guard. The scoring options should improve for the Hoyas, but also defense as well. This may push Epps off ball more as more of a scorer with Rowan and Mulready running point (could also pick up a mature point as a transfer, but sounds like bigs is a good chunk of the focus for the two (for now) open slots). Missed most of the first half, so I probably missed those pulls. Didn't notice it happening afterwards (game log suggests he never subbed out in the second half), but I could have missed something. Having missed the early part of the game, I'm guessing that Brumbaugh was deemed ineffective against the Johnnies? He got pulled early in the second half, after fouling the three point shooter, and never returned. Maybe contributed to the 0-10 start? Speaking of that foul, I didn't have a good look at it live (corner of my eye as I was speaking to someone) and was hoping for a replay that they never showed. My impression of the angles made it seem like it might have been a hold-the-leg-out-for-the-foul type of move by the shooter. Did anyone see either way?

It was the old Scottie Reynolds move on the Rowan foul.

Cooley was very upset with brumbaugh for the one legged fadeaway he took in the first half. Cooley ripped him at the start of the timeout after that shot and Brumbaugh tried to plead his case but Cooley walked away. Then Cooley got really upset again when Brumbaugh turned over the ball on an in bounds play under our own basket. That pretty much ended his day

Follow-up question to Cooley saying he learned a lot this season kinda stumped him.
His comment about knowing why the team doesn't defend well tells us he thinks it is more about personnel than scheme

I'm guessing the pause at first was more about not pulling a Pitino.

Edit: he said on his twitter it wasnt meant as a pot shot at Epps. I take him at his word. I guess I misread between the lines

I thought he paused because he wasn't expecting the question when he listed learning how to navigate traffic as the 3rd Item I felt he was reaching a bit. The answer of learning to play without the physicality & discipline he's used to having was interesting as well, I don't think the staff learned much in that regard but it reiterates what he's looking for.

There was a lot of fluff in there no doubt. The thing that stood out to me was giving his infrastructure and behind the scenes building an A+. They better have their sh*t together next year then.
