"Of all the performances so far this weekend, Acaden Lewis has had the most impressive outing. Although his team came up just short in an overtime battle to a hard-nosed, tough and talented John Marshall team, Lewis was tremendous all game long. Despite the physicality and ball pressure Lewis faced, he used his improved strength and confidence to battle and thrive in the highly competitive environment. Lewis put on an impressive shot-making display and further utilized his threat to make shots to keep defenders on their heels and get to his spots in the half-court. It wasn't just his scoring that stood out, however. Lewis dug deep and really contributed on the glass for his team by snagging 13 rebounds and further was making the right reads and passes to create for his teammates and take care of the basketball. By the time the buzzer sounded, Lewis had fallen short but had posted 20 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, shooting 7-of-14 from the field, 3-of-6 from three." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/saturdays-notebook-from-the-national-high-school-hoops-festival-acaden-lewis-darren-harris-sadiq-white-sir-mohammed-jalik-dunkley-222752991/

I get the feeling he might want to go to college out of the area. I have noticed an uptick of us after Nyk Lewis lately. Acaden Lewis has stated that Caleb is recruiting him hard.

Reminds me of Jamal Crawford, though I don't think he's a lead guard.

Which schools are still heavily involved in your recruitment? “Oregon, Florida State, Georgetown, Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Georgia, Providence.” With a great start to your season, have any new schools expressed interest? “Georgia offered at the Chicago Holiday Classic and have maintained contact. Tennessee hit me up a week before Chicago then came out to Chicago to see me. No offer from them though.” stockrisers.com/s/525/four-star-junior-acaden-lewis-updates-his-recruitment-talks-game

Virginia Tech (December visit): “It was good. I have a close relationship with coach [Christian] Webster, so it’s just a good relationship, and he reaches out a lot. Mike Young also calls me a good amount and I always appreciate when the head coach reaches out.” Virginia (October visit): “I like UVA. Tony Bennett and Jason Williford have been talking to me since I got to Sidwell last year. They’ve just been on my line, and you always appreciate an offer from UVA because they don’t offer everybody.” Florida State (October official visit): “It was good, I liked it a lot. Coach [Leonard] Hamilton has a flair to him that I like. They have great recruiters and the players talk really highly of the whole coaching staff. Coach [Kevin] Nickelberry is the one who recruits me a lot and he has heavy pull in the DMV area.” Georgetown: “That’s probably where I’ve been the most. I’ve been up there a couple of times to see practice and some games. Coach [Ed] Cooley has done a helluva job recruiting and then Caleb Williams (four-star commit, Lewis’ teammate) is recruiting and in my ear all the time. Lewis will not take any visits during his high school season, but set a timeline for when he might get on some campuses. “I’m not going to take any visits during the season because I want to stay focused,” he said. “When I do start doing visits, which will probably be around Peach Jam or after Peach Jam, I’m going to make sure I get out to Oregon and any of the schools interested in me.” www.zagsblog.com/2024/01/03/class-of-2025-four-star-acaden-lewis-breaks-down-recruitment/

So this kid is the Real Deal... Saw him tonight as Sidwell blew a big first half lead (built in large part by Lewis's play) to lose to Bullis 60-56. While The Friends (and Caleb Williams, too) didn't ultimately prevail (went cold in the second half, one player in particular who kept getting set up and just couldn't knock them down), there was MUCH to like about both players. But as this is the Acaden thread I'll focus on him. While only a junior, he is already everything you want in a point guard: quick, pass first, a shot and first step that keeps the D honest, and I swear to God is so good with his "off hand" I literally still am not sure if he is right or left handed (I think right but I wouldn't bet a dime on it). Had one drive from the right wing through the paint to create a baby left-handed hook hoop that was awe inspiring (I can hear Rich now: "Lewis, with the hooker in the lane...") He is so good I fear he may decide, like many locals have done, to leave for more national pastures (Oak Hill, Montverde, IMG, etc) -- which may make it harder to get him to the HillTop and will deprive me of the chance to watch him much. So you fellow locals out there: check out Sidwell's schedule and see for yourself.
UPDATE: highlights of game now below; Sidwell in white/Acaden #11 (with ball a lot and white streak in hair) and Caleb #5 (big afro). The above-mentioned "hooker in the lane" at about 3:50 mark...

The actual article is $$, but the GU context is right there. He's a great fit. Whether or not he's "100% PG" shouldn't matter (tho I think he'd be more than capable there). This is the kind of local kid people will wonder why you didn't land 2-3 years later.

Said he's going to take an official to UVA, which is noteworthy since he's already taken 2 unofficials there this season alone. Also this: “Their guard play stood out,” he said. “It was good to watch Reece Beekman because he’s really patient and you can tell he’s older than everybody out there. He didn’t have his best scoring game but assist wise he controlled the pace. Then they have the guard who comes off the bench who’s really fast and guards 94 feet. They play hard, they play together, and there’s a lot of trust. It shows coach Bennett trust his guards.”

I know Caleb Williams was behind Hoyas’ bench for yesterday’s UConn game and I think his Sidwell teammate Acaden was sitting to Caleb’s right but too far away to tell for sure. Perhaps others know?

Do they think they can get lots of PT or do they think, not for me?

Do they think they can get lots of PT or do they think, not for me? Most look at it as a great chance for PT right away. Cooley has a track record that resonates and a National coach of the year award. His record this year means very little to most kids. If we are this bad next year then it's gonna cause problems. I hope Lewis and others know that Jeff Battle helped develop some really great guards like Chris Paul and Ish Smith that they see that they can have that kind of career. As old as both are they are still playing in the NBA.

Something for locals especially to keep an eye on is the DCSAA “state” tournament in late Feb/early March. It could well feature a Lewis (Acaden/Sidwell) vs Lewis (Nyk/Gonzaga) Junior point guard match up — both of whom I believe we are recruiting. Last two years Sidwell beat Jackson Reed (formerly Woodrow Wilson — Heath’s alma mater) in the final — and JR is really good again, so no guarantees either Sidwell or Gonzaga gets there (and WCAC teams in DC tend to let down after the WCAC tournament). But my guess is the Lewis's will be on opposite sides of the bracket so a final (at Smith Center) definitely in play. UPDATE of note: It appears this year the semis will be Friday, Feb 29 AT MCDONOUGH (both girl's and then boys, I believe) and then the Final the next day at Smith Center circa 4PM start for the girl's final, then boys....

AS FAR AS COLLEGE RECRUITMENT, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A SCHOOL? “Number one would definitely be constant communication. I definitely want to talk to the school, and any school that wants me, I’d appreciate it if they reached out a good amount. Another thing is just their play style: I want to go somewhere where I think I’d fit in. And then obviously who they have coming back; I’d rather not be on a team with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores and guys that are the same age as me. [Also] how the coach treats their players and talks to their players. I look at that when I go on visits, to see how he treats his last guy on the bench compared to his first guy, because everyone treats their [best] guy good, but you don’t always treat your last player good.” DO YOU HAVE ANY TIMETABLE FOR MAKING A DECISION? “Yeah, I do. I don’t really have a month, but I think I want to drop, like, maybe a Top 7 or something around June because that’s after the third session of EYBL and I think at that point if a school hasn’t really reached out, they’ll be joining the party really late since it’s been a while. So I think around June I’ll be interested in dropping a Top 5, 7 or whatever.” ANY IDEA WHAT YOU’D LIKE TO STUDY? “I don’t really know. Economics or anything with money management, I think maybe that would be smart for the position I’ll be in, especially having NIL and everything that’s trending. Psychology is cool too, just knowing how the human mind works. And then maybe Sports medicine would be helpful as well, just for, like, general knowledge of the body. So one of those three things, probably.” www.dmvelite.com/news_article/show/1299782
