So troubling on so many levels.
The continuing desire to fight the culture war on abortion is an open wound that will likely never heal.
Who will care for these babies?
The breach of court security is abhorrent.

Interesting that many legal commentators can't discern which side may have leaked it. Original Roe v. Wade also leaked early but in the age of print, not the Internet so the impact was less and the timing of the leak not as impactful. While it may be the case, as Politico states, that “no draft decision in the modern history of the court has been disclosed publicly while a case was still pending,” it is not true that rulings have never been given to journalists before the announcement of the decision by the court. In fact, the result in Roe v. Wade itself was leaked by a Supreme Court clerk to a Time magazine reporter in January 1973. The issue of Time, with an article titled “The Sexes: Abortion on Demand,” appeared on newsstands hours before the decision was announced by Justice Harry Blackmun. www.washingtonpost.com/history/2022/05/02/leak-time-magazine-roe-wade/

I guess Senator Collins has moved from "concerned" to "VERY concerned." “If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings in my office,” Collins said in a statement. “Obviously, we won’t know each Justice’s decision and reasoning until the Supreme Court officially announces its opinion in this case.” Before voting for Kavanaugh’s confirmation in 2018, Collins said she was confident that Kavanaugh would not gut access to abortion. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/05/03/supreme-court-roe-v-wade-live/#link-XBSCJQSOCJCVPPIXKJMAWVQQLE

Hoping at least a dozen daughters or granddaughters of those who welcome this opinion run into Matt Gaetz and are subsequently forced to bear his spawn.

For their next trick the Pro Life party will no doubt seek to charge women who had abortions performed in other states with murder and then sentence them to death.

If Kavanaugh could be this dishonest about how he would approach Roe v Wade, it makes one wonder if there are other things he has been dishonest about

As gun deaths have now surpassed accidents as the leading cause of death among children and adolescents. Further proof that Republicans care about you only up until that umbilical cord is severed. Maybe that’s even overstating how long they care.

Maybe that’s even overstating how long they care. What about the children? This is the false piety hidden in the Republican Party’s zeal to roll back a woman’s right to choose. The sanctity of human life is all-important right up to the point when that flesh-and-bone child enters a world where programs designed to support women, the poor or households teetering toward economic ruin are being scaled back by a party that claims to be about family values. Family, for the radicalized GOP, is too often an inelastic framework built around powerful men, subordinate women, and children who will learn how to hurl themselves forward in life, even if there’s no money, few educational opportunities, no job prospects in their future, no proverbial boots with magical straps to lift their fortunes toward the sun. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/05/03/children-women-roe-leak/

For nearly half a century, Republicans have railed against “unelected judges” making rulings that they claim disenfranchise voters from deciding for themselves what laws should govern hot-button issues. Democrats have won the popular vote in seven of the past nine presidential contests, a stretch covering more than three decades, during which all the present Supreme Court justices were appointed. But Republicans won four of those nine elections in the electoral college. And they have appointed six of nine current justices. Two Republican presidents, Trump and George W. Bush, who appointed five justices between them, won elections in which they received fewer total popular votes than their opponents. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/05/04/draft-abortion-ruling-democrats-see-court-odds-with-democracy/

The hypocrisy of the MAGA GOP. “The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.” -- Methodist Pastor David Barnhart Chances of this happening? 1% maybe. Better to give tax cuts to the wealthy. Republican lawmakers are facing renewed internal pressure to support child benefit programs for parents after a leaked opinion on Monday showed the Supreme Court is prepared to strike down federal abortion protections. The GOP has adamantly opposed President Biden’s proposals to provide cash payments for parents, universal prekindergarten and other family benefit programs such as expanded child-care subsidies. But with the Supreme Court appearing poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, even some Republican senators are acknowledging that the party may need to do more to provide support for parents. Democrats say the Republican opposition to child benefits only underscores the recklessness of the push to overturn abortion protections, arguing that the GOP wants both to force mothers to have children and then deprive them of material support for raising kids. Democrats have long been skeptical that Republican talk of child policy amounts to anything more than a political stunt designed to distract from conservative opposition to economic benefits for families. www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2022/05/03/gop-families-roe-wade/

Suspect their next trick is pregnancy testing all outgoing and incoming women at the state line, to be able prosecute and/or collect a bounty for an out of state abortion.

This case is solely about abortion. Not feeding the poor. Not clothing the naked. It is merely one step in the attempt to restore to humankind the dignity and worth of humans initiated with creation, furthered by baptism, and capped off by the cross.
