This case is solely about abortion. Not feeding the poor. Not clothing the naked. It is merely one step in the attempt to restore to humankind the dignity and worth of humans initiated with creation, furthered by baptism, and capped off by the cross. So, the unbaptized aren't fully human and don't deserve rights? In your theocracy, not my democracy. Plus, it's lying rhetoric, too. If the rationale Alito uses to overturn Roe holds up, it's not only about abortion, but about birth control , anti-sodomy laws, anything which is derived from a "right to privacy". Not only are conservative religious preferences empowered to dictate laws, but, ultimately, the plutocrats who've cynically used religious issues to undermine governance can have their way regarding privacy and operate an untrammeled surveillance state. Koch, for example, for all the "religious freedom" organizations he's funded, is an atheist. Your religion will be discarded in favor of his religion: wealth.

It is merely one step in the attempt to restore to humankind the dignity and worth of humans initiated with creation, furthered by baptism, and capped off by the cross. I have stayed out of this discussion forever by choice, but some of the laws being passed are so insane that this needs to be addressed. Go ahead and tell that to rape and incest victims, or parents that learn that their child will be brain dead, or have a fatal and incurable disease that will leave them as vegetables and not even survive to school age, like my sister, who died of Tay-Sachs disease just prior to her fourth birthday. This can't happen, of course, but all I wish on the people passing these laws is that they have children with Tay-Sachs. It would serve them right. My daughter did a report on Tay Sachs when she was in middle school, and I asked her at that time what she would do if she were pregnant and learned that the fetus would have Tay Sachs. She said get an abortion, and I told her that's the right answer.

And there it goes. We have entered upon the US version of Sharia. What will be next? Why does a minority get to choose the nation’s laws? Truly a frightening and sad time for our democracy. Meanwhile I know too many people who advocate for these laws that secretly violate them when it suits their purpose. We are becoming an oligarchy/theocracy enforced by unregulated, mentally-immature,militia nut jobs idolizing firearms and living out their childhood GI Joe dreams. It is hard to imagine we could veer further away from our founding father’s ideals.

The Louisiana bill was proposed by Danny McCormick, a professed high school graduate from North Caddo Parish. A brief view of the clauses strongly suggests he did not go to a law school:
"Any federal statute, regulation, treaty, executive order, or court ruling that purports to supersede, stay, or overrule this Section shall be in violation of the United States Constitution and the Constitution of Louisiana and is therefore void." (Yes, Louisiana bills now countermand treaties.)
"This state and its political subdivisions, and agents thereof, may disregard any part or whole of any federal court decision which purports to enjoin or void any provision of this Section."
"Any judge of this state who purports to enjoin, stay, overrule, or void any provision of this Section shall be subject to impeachment or removal." (Or?)

Arguing that Article VI, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution (aka the Supremacy Clause) is in violation of itself is quite an interesting take. This is basic Con Law stuff. How do these people get elected?

As gun deaths have now surpassed accidents as the leading cause of death among children and adolescents. Further proof that Republicans care about you only up until that umbilical cord is severed. Maybe that’s even overstating how long they care. They don't actually care. As in an above post, it's about power. Not about caring.

There is indeed a toxic spectacle and a betrayal going on here, but it isn’t the leak. It’s the betrayal of democracy by McConnell’s Republicans and the toxic spectacle of the Roberts court aiding it. Three of the five justices reportedly voting to eliminate Roe were appointed by a president who didn’t win the popular vote (Republicans won the popular vote only once in the past eight presidential elections) and confirmed with the votes of senators representing a lopsided minority of the American people. The five justices have aligned themselves with the 16 percent of Americans who, according to the latest Post-ABC News poll believe abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, and against the 79 percent who believe it should be legal in at least some circumstances. Eighty-two percent of Americans believe abortion should be allowed if a woman’s life is endangered, 79 percent in cases of rape or incest and 67 percent if the child would be born with a life-threatening illness. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/05/06/supreme-court-hacks-betray-democracy/

Misspelling aside, good question. Just trying to solve a supply chain issue. It's a win-win in MAGA GOPers' perverse world.

The entire issue is exhausting and stupid. As a practical and legal matter, abortion is now and should remain available as a matter of choice to women.
The most vociferous opponents of abortion almost uniformly oppose the practice as articles of faith and morality—two areas the government has no business legislating. Those same vociferous opponents generally fall Mute when the morality of the death penalty is mentioned.
Finally, who will care for the babies women are compelled to carry to term?

"Bans on abortion - which I do not support - are very bad, but nothing compared to the disgrace of Barack Obama narrating a Netflix special about the National Parks."

Completely agree with what you've posted here but your words mean very little if it doesn't sway your vote... So will this issue sway your vote?
