The Fox situation was the normal 'friend keeps a friend in the business' hire.

Sigh I figured the NIL would go in this direction.
CBS Sports poll of 100 plus coaches on the state of NIL in Division I men's college basketball.
➤ 77% of coaches said they've been asked for $1M-plus for a player ➤ The highest ask among those polled was $5M for a player ➤ One coach said a mid-major player averaging 5 PPG wanted $400K

Any moron can ask for the moon and not get it especially in these early years where people don't know what the market will bear. 77 coaches were asked for $1M, but if only 2 are paying that much to anyone then the stat is pretty meaningless. I haven't followed it closely and maybe there are stats available to prove or disprove my impression which is - it feels like most people sign quickly, which would tell me they are getting close to what they originally ask for. Thoughts?

➤ 'The same player who got $50K a few years ago is now getting $200K,' a coach told CBS ➤ 'And the player who got $200K a few years ago is probably asking for a million (now) and nearly getting it'

Didnt last season's Georgetown squad include a transfer who averaged 4 pts per game and was paid $200K?

Building a winner is the end goal for everybody, but for some, it might look like the Oakland A's version of Moneyball.
Which players to target is valuable. How much to pay them will loom large in the salary cap era.
There are values to be had in the transfer portal, and general managers can help uncover them with data-based analysis, an eye for scheme-based fits and on-point, behind-the-scenes intel. Dalton Knecht, the reigning All-American, was not Tennessee's highest-paid player. Marcus Domask didn't cost a fortune for Illinois in the transfer portal last summer, but the Southern Illinois transfer turned into one of the best value gets in the cycle after he put together an All-Big Ten campaign.

In track and field it has been suggested that the whole NIL business has made it more likely to go the doping (e.g., EPO) way, since there is so much money out there that some will take the shortcut. An elite runner from Florida has tested positive for EPO.

An elite runner from Florida has tested positive for EPO. Well, that stinks. Hopefully that proves to be an aberration.

I’ll put this here rather than elsewhere.
From Dan Shaughnessy in the Boston Globe:
“Steve Belichick is on the football staff of the Washington Huskies, and for $25,000, a booster can have dinner with Steve’s dad. All the money goes to the Washington NIL Fund to buy players.”
Surely we have a few candidates with whom dinner is worth at least some bucks.
