On a positive note we weren’t embarrassed on national TV. Feel bad for the kids (including Pickett) who are trying so hard still. You can tell they felt like this was the last shot. Xavier is awful. Just one of Mac or Yurt and we win today.

If Iggy doesn't pick up that silly 4th foul I think the game turns out differently. He did a much better job on Jones than Q did.

But the BE showing was pretty embarrassing.

See you at Kenner. NIT is a long shot now. Yea that’s pretty much it. Next two games will be ugly. St Johns at MSG is 50/50 at best for the right to get blown out by SHU. Maybe better off just avoiding injury and calling it a year. I don't understand--avoiding injury for what? Next year?

Not sure what is silly, but the person you are referring to was former Hoya Greg Malinowski

Moral victories get you nowhere in this league fast. Xavier played like trash all afternoon; had we figured out how to limit certain mistakes from repeatedly happening, we would have easily taken this game. But we didn't, and here we are with the dagger officially in the season's heart.
I'm out of patience with Pickett. His drives to the rim today were about as bad as it gets. He wasn't even getting off shots most of the time; ball was just getting ripped or poked away if he wasn't charging. 6 turnovers in a 3 point game was an absolute killer. Not boxing out Carter and Freemantle in key possessions down the stretch was an absolute killer. And the help D, normally his one strong suit, was bad as well. Yes, he hit a couple standstill open 3s, but he can't be trusted to do anything other than that at this point in his career, and even that's not a given. For a 3 year player playing heavy minutes since day 1, that is a frightening thing as far as player development goes for both the player and the staff.
That extended stretch in the first half with George and Jaden in the game at the same time goes to show you what happens when guys play within themselves and play with some effort. If there was any bright spot for today, it was that they rung the bell when their numbers were called.
Feel very badly for Mosely. He continues to rack up the punishment giving up considerable size disadvantage every night, but doesn't back down. Inability to knock down any of the 3 early open 3's he took really took a toll on his shooting confidence. Will go down as a high effort guy for this program and much appreciated.
The refs were horrendous both ways all afternoon. If there was ever a "watch-me" crew that wanted to just insert themselves into the game and be the show, these 3 guys were it. Just too many missed/incorrect calls to count for both sides to even make a determination of how much they hurt or helped. I would say the one killer sequence though was right before the end of the first half where Mosely got the offensive rebound and putback but was somehow whistled for a phantom loose ball foul, giving Xavier 2 FTs. A 4 point swing in a 3 point game, you can do the math.
I feel for this team because they are undermanned and for the most part trying their best under tough circumstances. But it's tough to chalk up being shorthanded as the reason for losing. Some better decision-making and eliminating fundamental errors... we win today despite it all.

Might have been a lucky 3pt shot by Marshall "Might"? That’s 2 step back 3s from Marshall late in the second half.

That’s 2 step back 3s from Marshall late in the second half. And the first one looked to be as much of a foot shuffle as Blair's!

I love me some Jagan Mosely. He deserves better. Don't let his career end on a stupid Wednesday.

Are there any recruits sitting in the stands? There is a really tall white player with a blond top and dark sides sitting behind the bench, but doesn't look familiar. That's last years SF Greg Malinowski

Period. I can't fathom telling Jagan that the team is packing it in. Try to win the next two. And if (when) you don't, you try like hell to run the table in NYC.

It's crazy to think that's the bar for a NCAA tournament team and we can't get there. That was an awful performance from a Xavier team that needed that game and they got away with it.
Tyrique Jones being a complete jerk basically rallied our crowd and got the team back in the game. He then backed it up with three straight post ups over Q to the point we had to switch back to Tim I. for the last 3 min. Q couldn't stop him from getting position and was unable to stop Jones from going over his left shoulder. No effort to front and not enough ball pressure to stop the entry pass. I hope they play that stretch in the weight room all summer for Q to watch.
Pickett with one of those games where any time he dribbled it ended poorly. Sure he made some 3s but you can't turn the ball over 6 times in a game as a secondary playmaker. Still so much work to be done for a guy who is going to be a go-to player next year. Yikes
Allen was unable to do anything to take advantage of the cross match with Carter guarding him. It was the way to punish them for going w big lineup and we couldn't.
The first half man defense was so bad, Ewing had no choice to go to zone and it was wildly effective for a long stretch. A little surprised he didn't go back to it at some point in 2nd half but the defense wasn't really the issue today when you force so many turnovers.
Blair ended up with a decent enough stat line and made some big shots down the stretch. That being said, the dribbling improvements we saw have reverted a little. Wasn't able to be a threat as a pick and roll ballhandler. Another team that hard hedged and we couldn't do anything to make them pay. We didn't reject a screen, we didn't split it, Mosely drew one foul on Jones.
And for all of that, there for the taking with Marshall taking a shot you're absolutely ok with, a step back / off-the-dribble 3. 2nd one he made down the stretch, over Mosely. Jagan continues to give his heart and soul every night and it's heartbreaking to watch. Hoping we can win one more game so he doesnt end his career on this streak.
And sure lets go play a motivated Creighton team on Wednesday night after St. Johns tagged them. Should be fun.

I can see playing walkons more minutes the next two games, trying to keep guys relatively fresher for MSG, but no way you just pack it in. That's not why guys play the game.

I was contemplating what think the staff should do after this loss, then legit I just think about Jagan Mosely and realize that I can't tell them anything but to play their hearts out. We aren't beating Creighton. It's not happening. But Jagan on Senior Night, that might be a different story. I still want the staff going ALL IN on Seth Towns, and maybe even Bryce Aiken. I don't care that they are long shots, it's a long shot that next years team can compete at that level without those two. But, wait until at least after the BET. I'm rambling too much. This one really hurt.

This one stung because we had a chance to steal it until marshals 3. And I was hoping to get 16 win where at worst we would finish 16-16 now we may finish with a loosing record. Without a win in next 2 games we can’t finish.500 which isn’t big deal to some but I think 16-16 is better than a loosing record especially how they have fought and not quit. It means a lot in my opinion. Go Hoyas keep fighting all you can do really just keep playing hard.

Winnable game thanks mostly to Xaviers ineptitude rather than Gtowns success - but two terrible shot step backs go down for them in the last 2 minutes to seal it.
I hope the players, the staff, the students, and alumni all have a seance of some sort. Because the negative juju that follows the program around right now needs a cleansing.
I think 0-3 to finish out is likely, but I hope the culture continues to grow and carry over beyond the seniors. The toughness and grit of these remaining guys should be offseason priority A,B, and C by the staff to instill in next years group from Day 1. Losing Jagan and Allen will mean others will need to take over as leaders.
I realize it's more drivel having to discuss "next season" on March 1st...Again. But next season is make or break for Ewing imo. If there isnt a tourney berth and/or some major recruits on the horizon - it will be time to strongly consider parting ways.

Without landing 2 major grad transfers (starting PG or combo guard and starting forward), the combination experience/talent deficit will have next years team ranked 10th in preseason BE polls.
