I was listening in the car to the Providence radio broadcast while running errands and turned it off at 3 seconds left in regulation. What'd I miss? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Thank you for taking one for the team!

He seems to be the odd man out if we are going to play James and Mac together. There are only so many minutes and him and Mac are similar in the all O no D skill set. Blair will probably get his chance next game with how GMal played today..... That would be a big mistake. Mal doesn't kill us on both ends when his shot is off like it was today. Blair is a total liability if his shot isnt falling.

Non-Pickett Observations.... - Govan was immense, and I'm not sure people appreciate him as much as they should. Yes, his defense can be terrible, as it was for much of the first half. But he can be effective there -- and was for the second half and OTs for the most part. And despite his supposed reputation of disappearing in the BE, he was monster today -- 33 points on a 114 efficiency, six offensive boards ... played a ton and gave a ton of effort. Can't say enough about Govan. If he's not around, we're reliant just on two freshmen guards to create offense, and that's a losing proposition.
Agree, and Govan had 4 blocks. kudos!

I definitely took one for the team. Assuming that Providence was going to foul, I left with three seconds left. I did manage to hear most of the overtime on the radio, and I counted 24 “Hoyas win”s from Rich. If that’s what it takes to break the streak, then it’s well worth it!

Player of the Game for me was Jamorko Pickett. We were getting absolutely roasted down low; Josh was not as effective as usual, Govan was getting bullied and they were simply dunking over and over and over again. Pickett beasted on the defensive end and also chipped in a couple of game winning offensive rebounds. It was he who turned around the defense, and combined with some much smarter play by Govan in the second half on D, really helped get us both back into the game and eventually win. Govan was also a stud, carrying the bulk of the offense, playing 42 minutes and really improving his D and rebounding in the second half. But I've got to give it to Pickett. The offense will come; there were a few flashes today. But that defense is what we need more. I was going to start my game observations here, but you already said it.

Is it better than last year at this point? Mac Effect? Dunno - DFW is the numbers guy around here. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Late arriving crowd as usual and didn't really get engaged in the game until the Hoyas started to turn it around. Absolute bedlam when Mac and then James hit their buzzer beaters.

You could sense the relief from coach after that one. Sometimes you just need one of these to reinforce all the hard work and effort. Loved how happy Pat looked at Mac after the big 3 to end the game...

Don’t see Blair in the box score, did they mention any injury? He played at the end of the first OT when Akinjo hit the shot to get us to 2 OT

Jessie's 33 points and 4 blocks have been mentioned, but FOURTEEN rebounds! For all the grief he gets from some posters, he was a man out there today.
Hats off to the crowd, especially the students. They showed up and were into it.

Proud of the way Jessie actually started to protect the rim in the late stages of the game. Almost like Ewing told him to stop being a turnstile. yeah, he made a couple very nice defensive plays. If he'd given that kind of effort consistently earlier in the game, the freshmen's shooting heroics wouldn't have been needed, but maybe this win helps him turn a corner and work to become a stronger defender.

Or maybe is the watch out for the fouls because there is no experienced backup after you... who knows, but he let it fly in the 2 OTs. What's the word on Trey? Also, use Carter more.

This is simply not true but I'm sure like most of the crap you spew on here you won't back it up with stats or anything but "think so".

Agree that Pickett and Govan made a real difference on the defensive end. Jessie is just money on offense. Our end of game should be Mac attack. Too risky to feed Jessie in that situation (in a down two scenario). Carter looks promising. Also, we need to play fast and recruit accordingly.
