Poor game preparation and a mismatch on the sidelines between Cooley and Ewing makes this an uphill battle. Poster of the day right here, gents. Round of applause Wow, I missed that one initially. Thank you for pointing that out. What is said now?

The most encouraging part of this game is that the Hoyas really did not play that well and still managed to earn the win. Horrible turnovers, poor rebounding, some poor FT shooting until the overtime and a very poor game from Malinowski would have led most to expect another loss. When this team moves the ball instead of settling for the quick or forced shot they are som much more effective. Still a lot of room to grow, but a very nice win to highlight the upside.

Non-Pickett Observations.... - Govan was immense, and I'm not sure people appreciate him as much as they should. Yes, his defense can be terrible, as it was for much of the first half. But he can be effective there -- and was for the second half and OTs for the most part. And despite his supposed reputation of disappearing in the BE, he was monster today -- 33 points on a 114 efficiency, six offensive boards ... played a ton and gave a ton of effort. Can't say enough about Govan. If he's not around, we're reliant just on two freshmen guards to create offense, and that's a losing proposition.
- Games like this one make me wonder how good this team could be if it could just clean up the dumb stuff. Often it is turnovers, but today it was just getting back on D and not giving up easy dunks on simple man screens. It took a half and maybe some changes by the staff, but if we can just get rid of the much too easy stuff, we'd be pretty decent on D ... and I'd be super happy with that.
- Offensively, Mosely, Kaleb and Carter should get a special award. As low volume or low minute guys, they've got to execute when they get a chance. Shooting 6-6 with 15 points is a pretty darn strong offensive game for the second part of the bench. Carter again impressed, especially in that run at the end of the first half, not just with the shooting but he's not a pushover down low, defensivly.

Agreed on all fronts. Pickett was huge in every way but scoring, but man his handle needs work. Makes me anxious every time he puts it on the floor, but at least today he made a few going strong to the hoop. If he hits the weight room and gains a few pounds, look out. Great win. It's about time we won a barnburner.

Finally got off the shnide with Prov. This was the type of crazy win that really unites the team and excites the fans. Proud of all of the players for never giving up. So glad that Mac is back and hope this gives us a boost for Marquette on Tues...and PLEASE practice free throws before that game!

I’m not sure the formula that goes into calculating “Tempo” on this site, but every game over 72 in tempo we’ve won (except SJ) and every game under we’ve lost. Maybe just flukey, but it’s something. barttorvik.com/team.php?team=GeorgetownIt is inline with when teams slow us down and make us run a half court offense we are anemic. When the game is up and down and we run we can score.

Couldn’t watch so taped the game. Can’t wait to watch! Fired up, although 2OT probably means it went longer than 2 hours and 30 min.

Don’t see Blair in the box score, did they mention any injury?

Pickett was fantastic today.
And kbones - always need to set DVR for 3 hours. Learned that after the 4OT ND game in '02

I was at the game today, yelling until I lost my voice. What a fulfilling game to win. The Big East is a wild league this year -- a few lucky bounces can change the narrative on a game and even a season.
Providence isn't a particularly good team this year, but this game still makes a statement. Providence is so hard to beat because they are so well coached. Ed Cooley really develops mental toughness in his players, and they expect to win. It takes a strong effort to beat them.
There are a lot of ways we can improve, but right now I'm just going to enjoy this win. After watching Alabama Monday night and the Xavier debacle midweek, this was a welcome sight! A good team win -- great day for Govan on offense, McClung and Akinjo had nerves of steel when it mattered, Kaleb made several nice aggressive plays, and even Pickett came through in a rough game for him with two critical rebounds. Hoya Saxa.

I was listening in the car to the Providence radio broadcast while running errands and turned it off at 3 seconds left in regulation. What'd I miss? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Blair will probably get his chance next game with how GMal played today..... Blair was a curious case today. He came off the bench during a crucial late game possession I want to say in overtime (could've been in regulation) but otherwise didn't play at all in the game. I had wondered as well if he were being held out for some reason, but he did appear very late. I had been happy with his progression in recent games -- hope we see him more on Tuesday.

Friend of mine from Indiana and a Purdue and IU grad (a furloughed DOJ attorney so I told him about free tix for Marquette game, couldn't make game today but watched on TV) texted me: "GU freshmen are good." A neutral observation. As Hoya fans, we are often overboard in our evaluations both positive and negative as the case may be.

Yeah, he was the person who inbound the ball on Akinjo's 3 at the end of the first OT. I figured they were going to try to get it back to him but no one really got open and Akinjo let it fly.

Living and dying with the freshmen. Today we live ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Haha... I thought Ewing was going to run on the court and strangle Akinjo when he missed that deep hero ball 3 at near the end of regulation. I'm glad the young man got a chance to redeem himself. Pickett and Govan were the real heroes today but in the end everyone contributed and it was a joy to witness.

Jumping up and down, screaming at Akinjo, it was a sight to behold. For all the talk about toughness, you have to be pretty tough to play for Ewing. He had my attention, and I was in the stands on the other side of the floor. Also thought it was a great atmosphere today. The student section made a rather full and energetic showing. Capital One Arena was a fun place to be today.
