For what it's worth, I think this "spark off the bench" strategy makes no sense when it causes you to keep one of your five best players on the bench. Someone else mentioned about Josh being a spark and changing the dynamic when he comes in. Well, perhaps if he started, there'd be no need to change the dynamic? I think it's fair to ask these questions. Last year, Ewing did not start LeBlanc until Dec. 22, and that was only because Mourning got a concussion, and by the time Mourning came back, LeBlanc was clearly so much better than Mourning that LeBlanc continued to start, even though at times Mourning still played way too much. Obviously, the coach knows more about the players than we do, he sees them in practice, etc. but there is no logical reason to play one of your best five players like he's a guy on the bench. For what it's worth, if LeBlanc started on the bench, and played 30 minutes, I wouldn't care as much, but that's not how he is being used. I'd go a step farther and say that he's one of our best three players, not merely one of the best five.

I’m starting to cool off a little but about the LeBlanc as starter issue. I can see a rationale for using him as the sixth man to play with tempo and energy of the game - and it looked like both team and player started to adjust to the strategy in NYC. For the first four games, it looked like a disastrous decision, and if we trend back towards those kinds of starts, I hope Patrick rethinks it.
But as a premium value sixth man I do see Leblanc as an X factor - the caveat being that if you don’t start him, you need to make sure he’s in the game at crunch time. That would be a much bigger mistake, IMO.

I didn’t see the game today, but did listen on the radio. Leblanc only played 11 minutes? What happened?

Something dreadful is going on here. 11 minutes can only be explained by either complete incompetence/indifference or off the court dynamics/personality conflicts. Horrible situation, either way, for both sides.

It’s hard to opine on the LeBlanc situation without all the facts. That said, then either don’t play him at all or start him and play him 20+ minutes. This muddled middle ground is hurting performance and team morale.

This type of coaching leads to one of two things. A player reaching his potential or a player leaving for a more comfortable situation.

I agree with your bigger point that no one really played well vs. UNC-G except for maybe Gardner. Sometimes a coach has to be tough with a player to get even more out of them. We saw it last year with Pickett. LeBlanc will figure the effort level Coach Ewing is expecting from him and will be back to playing his 20 plus minutes. He's a smart young man. The fans have to allow Coach Ewing to coach LeBlanc and the rest of the players the way he sees fit.

Ewing sees these kids everyday. If it's a discipline issue then who are we to question it? Last two guys with discipline issues were dismissed from the program immediately. I was at the game yesterday and Josh got yanked twice for doing his own thing and losing focus of the game. Both times we gave up layups.

I agree that players have to make plays. Yurt7 and Akinjo struggled. Can’t blame Pat for all their misses.

Who, which player(s) is/are leading this team?

Coach and Jose need to figure this out soon. He's the one irreplaceable player on the team and not having them out there has cost us 3 games.
