The kid is going to be special. Will he be as good as Porter? (I like to get Glide's dandruff up with the comparisons.)

Way too many bad shots and turnovers.
He'll improve but he needs to be reigned in a bit right now.

Love the confidence, he just needs to feel out his game against the big boys. Wish we had a few more tough games to get his feet wet.

Needs development.

Know your role. Especially as a freshman - although I blame the coach for not giving him the hook. His decision making left a mark in that game. Unfortunately it was not a positive one.
Ewing needs to improve in-game coaching significantly IMO.

Shoots too many 3s at a poor percentage. Falling in love with the 3 like Derrickson did early in his career. The deep 3 will always be there for 6'8 guys and is not a good shot for him to be taking right now. Needs to work on posting up smaller guys, pull ups, driving, catch and shoot 2s, etc. No way he should be taking more than 2-3 wide open 3s per game. Currently taking 5-7 per game. Until there is better shot selection, we cant be having him play in crunch time unfortunately. Two deep 3s and one turnover trying to drive in traffic were key possessions where we needed points.

Ewing needs to improve in-game coaching significantly IMO. I have a feeling he was guaranteed PT as an enticement to come here over other schools when he reopened his recruitment. Because right now he is just a 3pt shooter/space who isn't doing anything else and Antwan Walker would probably be more productive then him at the 3 spot. Alot of it is inexperience and getting used to this level of play but right now he is playing like a tweener. Not big enough to make a difference down low and shaky handles/hesitation to be an asset as a guard. Kind of reminds me of Otto his first couple years with the Wizards, where Randy Whitman just told him to go be a 3pt spacer in the corner for Wall.

I guess on the bright side he's a 2-3 year player for us. No way could he play after one year of college in the NBA right now.

Seems like he takes a lot of open threes, and he has excellent form, but they just aren't falling right now. That's a confidence thing, and I strongly believe it will come. I also feel like his inability to knock down open shots consistently affects the rest of his game.
My assumption is that Ewing has basically told him, as long as you seen a good shot, take it--with the hope that Pickett will eventually find his stroke and the rest of his game will follow.
I am confident that Pickett is going to be a stud, but right now he is playing too much like a freshman. A major sign for how good of a coach Ewing is will be whether Pickett (and other players who show promise like Blair, Walker, etc.) improve or just sort of stay the same.

This may be part of the process: Yikes. Kaleb? Jagan? Jessie? Marcus?

This may be part of the process: Yikes. Kaleb? Jagan? Jessie? Marcus? Really confused why Jagan didn't get more playing time. In past games when Jagan wasn't playing great he took way too many minutes away from Mulmore. Now this game he forgets him entirely in favor of two freshmen. Hope this doesn't continue, these are the types of personnel decisions that lead to transfers.

Some people complain for the sake of complaining. The two frosh and coach are 12 games into their career and they are getting the gears. Let it play out a bit. I’m fine with Pickett and Blair getting minutes and making mistakes. This isn’t about this year.

Pickett and Blair are scorers, but they are frosh. Johnson does himself in by disappearing in games. I like Mosely the most when we are running- less so in a half court set.

Even with the loss to Butler, I still believe that Pickett can be our go-to guy down the road--say next year--by working hard in the off--season. I like the kid a lot. see a lot of similarities between him and Porter. As I stated before, Pickett is more smooth and maybe more fearless than Porter was at this same point in his career.
