Govan, Reggie and Ike played well tonight. DSR and Peak showed up late. Not a great night for Hayes who could not shoot or rebound against their bigs. Same true for Derrickson. Kudos for the coach playing with the hot players down the stretch. DSR really needs to relax. The more he pressed the worse he played. This team is gaining invaluable experience. Tonight Copeland played like a star in the second half. Solid defense all night and added offense in the second half. Govan unbelievably poised as a freshman playing in MSG for the first time. Cameron belongs both on offense and defense. LJ played solid D most of the night. He was the best defensive player on the floor and continues to be one of the only guys that fights above picks consistently. I respect the heck out of him for his defensive effort because that stuff does not show up on a stat sheet and it certainly isn't fun or sexy unless you're an absolute lock-down defender. This team has plenty of guys that can put up some points but is deficient in terms of one-on-one defensive guys. Peak, right now, is the closest we have to that and he played like he knows that his biggest contribution needs to be on D right now. It's not that he can't put up some points. It's that the team needs less of that from him than they need his defensive skills.

Once he gets his feet under him, he's gonna be a good one..

Once he gets his feet under him, he's gonna be a good one.. I thought he did really well also. Especially for a freshman. But he went under more picks (at least it seemed to me) which, against Wisco, I guess isn't the worst thing and maybe that's more the point. They weren't shooting well so maybe that's the better play. But, even though we had the lead throughout, it felt like the game was in question for most of it. Maybe that's just me being paranoid and coloring my perception of the actual play. In any case, Kaleb gets the award for getting hosed by no-calls that he should have gotten. The kid was robbed a few times that were glaringly apparent. I'm with you that I think he's going to be a guy that we're very happy became a Hoya. I'm happy already and, if he tightens up his ball skills a bit, my smile will only get wider. He worked his butt off tonight. Loved the energy.

I do think he will be a great Hoya in the future, but it was a bit of a rough night for him tonight. He was forced into a position where he was clearly not comfortable. He is not ready to be a lead guard yet. That's not a knock on him as there are few guards who can slip into that role successfully in all D-1. He made some questionable choices and fouls, especially on the three and the open follow up. However, as far as I could see through broadcast TV, he was often disappointed after some fouls and knew he made a mistake or two. That speaks to someone who is willing to improve. I anxiously await his full arrival.

No disagreement there whatsoever.

Great atmosphere at MSG tonight. VCU band is terrific. Duke and Wisconsin also had their pep bands, but no Georgetown. Hope GU band makes the trip on Sunday, we will need all the help we can get. Duke fan base travels in full force.

As for the Duke fanbase, they do travel really well but they also have a pretty significant presence in the area.

I agree with you that he didn't get the benefit of the doubt in some situations when he was the victim of a foul. Hopefully, that will be a nonissue on Sunday. But it is Duke, so a good amount of foul frustration should be expected.

The good news is that we have guys contributing all over the place even with 2 guys out. Different guys are stepping up and it's still November. It's difficult to not be excited about this squad. How it shakes out in wins and losses remains to be seen but, as bad as the Radford game was in terms of energy and intensity, the last 2 have been the polar opposite for most of the guys. If the guys can cut down on the "young" mistakes in a hurry and rebound a bit better, I really like the potential of this group of Hoyas.

Finally the team catches a break with a leading scorer having a bad game by being taken out of his flow by the defense, and it's our turn to have the hot player with a career game in Cameron... Great W!
Badgers men's basketball: UW can't stay with hot-shooting Georgetown in 71-61 loss
host.madison.com/wsj/sports/college/basketball/men/badgers-men-s-basketball-uw-can-t-stay-with-hot/article_dbc9ccf7-d295-542c-876f-8b0bf8a0183a.html
What really hurt the Badgers was getting only nine points on 2 of 12 shooting from junior point guard Bronson Koenig, the team’s leading scorer.
“I thought the whole game, it was really hard for me to get in the flow,” Koenig said. “I thought they took a lot of stuff away from me and made it hard for me to really get anything. I was just out of rhythm. None of my shots felt good.”

Yes, please!
Quote for JT3: For the second consecutive game, Thompson played all 10 available Hoyas with the absences of White and Campbell. “Everyone on that bench has to be ready to contribute for the time I put them in the game,” said Thompson. “I think they are comfortable. Everyone is ready and willing to step up.”

We put the 6-4 Peak and the 6-7 Kaleb Johnson on the 6-4 Native American super athlete point guard Bronson Koening along with help to shut him down and they used their Pack Line defense with extra help to take away DSR.

I didn't catch the Duke-VCU game, but saw the box score. Who's on Allen on Sunday?

Very nice to see us grab the win. Frustrating coupe of L's to begin the season, particular seeing as Radford has not exactly lit it up since that debacle. I thought for long stretches that the team relied too much on the 3, and got bailed out by Cameron's (Cameron!) hot hand, but in the end Nigel Hayes could not single handedly keep Wisconsin in the game.
This is clearly the most talented team the Hoyas have had since the team with Monroe-Wright-Freeman, if not the F4 team. Concentration and desire seem to be a wildcard with this bunch, but hopefully they will focus and be very tough all year.
Duke is my lil lady's alma mater, so I really need us to win this one. Please.

Campbell's too small and DSR and Cameron don't have the foot speed to stop him without fouling. I guess Copeland in a pinch if Peak and Kaleb are both in foul trouble. It's definitely a tough assignment.

Please. Well the Pack the line defense is designed to take away dribble penetration up the middle and the post game by putting too many defenders in the paint. What that defense does give you is an extra second to get off the 3pt shot since only one defender comes out of the pack line to guard the guy with the ball. So the best way to attack the Pack Line is to shoot alot of 3s. Both Cameron and Govan took advantage of that. We probably could have also used Derrickson for that but he didn't play much because I think he was having trouble understanding the pack line and trouble defending Nigel Hayes.

Duke had a 34 to 13 FTAs edge over VCU. Insane! I hope the refs don't steal our game.
