Maybe, unless Jimbo gets hit with a "show-cause" penalty from the NCAA, which would prevent a school from hiring him unless they could demonstrate why that coach was necessary,a nd how they would ensure that there would be no repeat sanctionable conduct. Hard to see how that would work.

Boeheim to coach St. John's? Don't see that happening. I see retirement and maybe getting a TV gig. I think he wants to leave on his own terms and not have the appearance that he was forced out.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. After the imposition of sanctions by the NCAA, either through a negotiated settlement or otherwise, it appears that both Boeheim and the athletic director, Darryl Gross, are going to be under the microscope. To the extent that the NCAA finds systemic violations that occurred under a large number of years, the Syracuse chancellor (former Hoya Kent Syverud, who has made it clear that he intends to improve the academic profile of SU) may well use this as an opportunity to "reboot" the athletic program in a positive fashion, and to put a new AD and basketball coach in place. From what I've read, Syverud's moves have been very well received in Central New York, and this could be the chance for him to make a big break from the policies of former, less-well-respected, chancellors. That's a very achievable goal. Hand out crayon sharpeners to all incoming freshmen. What's next up on the "to do" list?

Boeheim to coach St. John's? Boeheim to St. John's for Lavin and a top 25 recruit?

The rumor, and I stress rumor, on the SU board is that the NCAA has found conduct so "ugly" (the word being bandied about by SU fans) that the school will have no alternative but to cut ties. Because the details are rumors, I am not going to repeat them here, except to note that they would substantiate the finding of a lack of institutional control. That's not fair, man. Inquiring minds want to know.

Be patient, hoyainspirit. When there is something of substance, I'll post it ASAP. There's too much smoke and mirrors right now emanating from Lower Canada to really know what is happening.

My fervent hope (dream?) is that the NCAA sticks it to them by imposing a two-year postseason ban - but waiting until after SU fails to make the NCAA's to announce it. Gotta have a dream.

Based upon some comments in the SU forum relating to Devendorf, it may be the burning of old rolling papers.

Not going to lie - I signed up just to witness the madness. I personally believe that no one on there has any idea what's coming down the pipe, but rumor builds upon rumor. It's amazing. The new consensus appears to be that the NCAA is on a vendetta against Boeheim (no real explanation on why they're targeting him), and that the NCAA is pushing for a 2 year post-season ban, but might negotiate that down to no ban at all if Boeheim agrees to step down as coach. My favorites are the people (already assuming this new story is true) saying JB should step down for the good of the program to avoid a crippling tourney ban. The mind boggles...

I'm not a fan of auto racing, but I'm told that a large component of the appeal lies in watching the massive collision and resulting destruction. The SU board is like that right now. I really enjoy those posters that believe that the ACC is going to step in and rescue them from penalty imposition. I do feel like I have to wash in industrial-strength disinfectant after perusing the latest posts.

Word has broken out on the syracusefan.com site that the school has been advised of the NCAA sanctions, and that formal announcement will be made tomorrow. This could well be more of the rampant rumor, as has been the case numerous times to date, but this is something to look for.

I'm not a fan of auto racing, but I'm told that a large component of the appeal lies in watching the massive collision and resulting destruction. I just can't let that slide. There is about as much truth to that often cited but totally baseless belief as there is that vaccinations lead to: 1. Mental Retardation 2. Autism, 3. Walking, talking, normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders. Race car fans like speed, loud cars, and have their favorite drivers. Think about it, if you have a favorite driver or drivers, would you really want to see them end up in an accident? Consider the pall that fell over NASCAR when Dale Earnhardt (#1 most popular driver) died at Daytona. BTW, you might recall that Hoya Brendan Gaughan has had and is having a successful racing career. OK, point made. Please feel free to return to bashing the 'Cuse, just leave the race car fans out of it.

They are desperately hoping that it is just a one-year postseason ban covering this year. So let's hope it is a ban at least including next year.
Can Chancellor Kent request the death penalty??
