Coleman ripping anyone is priceless. If you put a bowl on the floor he would eat from it...

That is one horrible story, seaweed. Hadn't heard about it; I guess Kent Syverud has his hands full.

The problem, of course, is that SU Law students have too much free time in which to concoct and execute this type of demeaning and degrading scheme. To be expected when your only required course is "Contesting and Denying NCAA Violations".

My favorite line from the story: "Our tipster alleges that the local hospital told one victim that they don't test for date rape drugs, "only cocaine."" Seriously?

No idea if this is credible, but these tweets were reposted on the syracusefan.com board:
Marcus LaRobardiere @marcusdl · 4h 4 hours ago Hearing #Syracuse #NCAA investigation penalties will be announced in next 12 -24 hours. Not good…cc @therunnersports
Marcus LaRobardiere @marcusdl 4h4 hours ago Word is #Syracuse will face 2 year postseason ban and reduced scholarships from #NCAA
"More details when they are available."

Here's more from the same "source," via syracusefan.com, posted by him about one hour ago: Marcus LaRobardiere @marcusdl More confirmation around timing of announcement & penalties #Syracuse will face from #NCAA. Not good for #OrangeNation

Much rampant speculation abounding on the Syracuse board; it is the functional equivalent of water torture, drop by drop. It almost makes you feel sorry for their fans. Almost.
The latest scuttlebutt is that the penalties will include a two year ban on post-season play, but no loss of scholarships. For all of the blather and hubris being shown by SU fans ("they can't do that to us, because UNC is so much worse than we are, and they'll never penalize them like that, because the ACC won't stand for it"), an interesting post was put up a few minutes ago:
"long time buddy from high school i happened to talk to. his wife is high up. like i said, believe what you want...i trust the guy though. hes solid. and from what he has said, the punishment might be warranted. lots of bad stuff."
Timing? At this point, it's 92 days and counting. Who knows?

Height of delusion: Fans posting on the Syracuse board are convinced that if, as a result of the impending NCAA sanctions, Jim Boeheim is either forced out or resigns voluntarily, the next head coach of the Orange will be Jay Wright, and that he would happily leave his hometown for the frozen wasteland of Lower Canada.

What, they've already passed on Brad Stevens, Mike Izzo, and Coach K for this destination job?

If Boeheim is forced out, the speculation is that the entire coaching staff, including Hopkins, would also be forced out (like at Tennessee when Bruce Pearl was relieved of his duties).

I can't believe Syracuse will force Boeheim out. He is so entrenched and is Syracuse basketball, I just don't see it. No one died. (See, e.g., Lefty Drisell). Does anyone else share that opinion?

The rumor, and I stress rumor, on the SU board is that the NCAA has found conduct so "ugly" (the word being bandied about by SU fans) that the school will have no alternative but to cut ties. Because the details are rumors, I am not going to repeat them here, except to note that they would substantiate the finding of a lack of institutional control.

Living in upstate NY (150 miles from Syracuse, still not far enough), I agree that it is hard to imagine Magoo being forced out, unless he is found to have committed or condoned multiple violations. He IS the Syracuse program to fans, alumni and donors.
He probably plans on retiring in a couple of years - I suspect after he collects win number 1000. He has also become ornery and sardonic enough that I could see a 2-year postseason ban actually extending his career, as a kind of middle-finger salute to the NCAA.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. After the imposition of sanctions by the NCAA, either through a negotiated settlement or otherwise, it appears that both Boeheim and the athletic director, Darryl Gross, are going to be under the microscope. To the extent that the NCAA finds systemic violations that occurred under a large number of years, the Syracuse chancellor (former Hoya Kent Syverud, who has made it clear that he intends to improve the academic profile of SU) may well use this as an opportunity to "reboot" the athletic program in a positive fashion, and to put a new AD and basketball coach in place. From what I've read, Syverud's moves have been very well received in Central New York, and this could be the chance for him to make a big break from the policies of former, less-well-respected, chancellors.

I fear that forcing Boeheim our, no matter how warranted, would make a lot of enemies, some with deep pockets. Getting rid of Gross would earn Kent universal plaudits.
