Whenever I hear that handlers or middlemen are involved, I expect us to fade out of the picture.

From today's Syracuse Post-Standard: www.syracuse.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/03/the_ncaas_sanctions_against_syracuse_university_as_an_institution_we_got_what_we.htmlLet's start at the beginning, with admissions. Head Coach Jim Boeheim was quoted as saying some of his players need "additional academic support," surely the understatement of the decade. He said one troublesome player (Fab Melo) would be on a plane home "the next day" if he wasn't eligible to play.
How did these problematic "student" athletes gain admission? They don't apply to the Department of Basketball. Athletics has no Office of Admissions. Who was responsible? Where were the deans of these colleges that enrolled athletes not meeting SU's academic profile? Eligibility problems start when we admit students who have no interest in a college education.
*** As an institution we got what we deserved. The Chancellor and Provost must tell Daryl Gross or his successor that the manipulation of admissions and eligibility are over.

Rubin is highly respected in Central New York. I find his opinion articles always on point, and this one is clearly not an exception.

The general reaction on the syracusefan.com is actually supportive of Professor Rubin's article. . .especially where he advocates for a three-year death penalty for the Tar Heels.

While I have a great distaste for Syracuse getting off lighter than anyone, UNC's fraud, if proven, is such a disgrace and a perversion of the educational system that there is no penalty severe enough for UNC.

Soooo - Devendorf is out of a gig. Come on everyone knows Devendorf's head couldn't fit in the orange. Besides, everyone knows that's McNamara's job until he decides to hang it up.

Even though the guy is a Newhouse grad, he is just a hack with an agenda. Just ask the folks at syracusefan.com. Just like every media member(and the list is growing) and even one SU professor who has dared to criticize the slimy program and its festering leader.

Shockingly, I found the article to portray quite aptly the metaphor of a once thriving city rotting from the inside and its similarity to a once thriving program doing the exact same thing.
If only Gov. Cuomo could pull the plug on "New York's College Team". Perhaps a lawsuit for defamation of character by the entire state of NY for ruining its good name.

I will be happy to file the complaint.

This hack is a business columnist, obviously knows nothing about sports. And remember that the Newhouse School at SU is one of the leading media and journalism schools in the country, so their grads dominate the East Coast media.

Nocera is a BU grad. Not Newhouse School educated. Although his editor may be.
EDIT: BU = Boston University. Not Butler.
