Boeheim is going to appeal. What a D-bag.

What does probation mean in this case? I assume it does not apply to post-season ban, which is just for this year. Is it just the number of schollies voided?

It is a strategy; appeal, fire a few low- to mid-level people, hope they will give you back a scholarship a year. The vacated wins are gone for good, plus the money, the limits on recruiters and the probation are final. But the schollies are the real hammer, so an appeal may get you a little back.
Plus you pretty much have to appeal if you want to maintain the "I did nothing wrong" charade.
The saddest part is that SU and the NCAA "negotiated" a May 2003 statute of limitations for the academic fraud issues - meaning that the academic fraud (i.e. Carmelo et al.)during the 2002-2003 season will not require them to forfeit their national title.

Initial reaction was that the NCAA handed out meaningful penalties, but after reading (it's only about 30 pages of narrative surrounding the infractions), NCAA should have hammered them with an extra year of post season ban. The section dedicated to grade changes for Student Athlete 7 are so damning to the Admistration that their self imposed penalty can't be enough.
Also a shame to learn about the "statute of limitations".

It means strict reporting requirements to the NCAA, constant NCAA monitoring, and harsher sanctions, possibly even the "death penalty" if you screw anything up the next 5 years.

OTL with Bob Ley discussing sanctions with O'Neil, Katz, and Bilas. Bilas still saying nothing has changed with respect to the NCAA. Bilas does say it can't all be on Boeheim but what about AD?Questions length of investigation. It was clear from Bilas' comments he hasn't actually read the report...

I implore my Hoya brethren to simply enjoy this for what it is and not lament what it is not. Syracuse, the Orange clad spawn of Lucifer, has been convicted of the cheating we always knew was going on.
Magoo will always be a convicted NCAA cheat. Appeal all you like my myopic title friend. You and your organization are convicted cheaters

Boeheim is going to appeal. I can see the defense now... Actually, knowing Boeheim, it will only be a zone defense.

Hopefully, the reinstated slander suit gets into the discovery phase against Magoo. That'd be perfect timing.

Boeheim is going to appeal. I can see the defense now... like I needed to think about JimmyB walking around Syracuse in a bathrobe - thanks for that mental scar.

hidden bright side for Boeheim - after this weekend, he won't have to leave NY again until mid-February 2016.
