Coupled with the points already made, Cuse, as well as every other school, knows that the NCAA is a crap-show and can be incompetent, inconsistent, and bordering on corrupt. If you're going to violate the rules of that "organization" over an extended period of time, you shouldn't be shocked when they're not well-organized and efficient in dealing with meting out punishments. After all, how long did it take for the NCAA to start investigating Cuse's blatant violations? They weren't complaining about that delay, were they?
Additionally, as fans, we'd likely be whining about the delay but we'd also be furious that it was allowed to happen on a systemic level for that period of time and would be calling for almost every head to roll. People here insinuate that JT3 should be replaced for his timing of time out calls.

The posters at syracusefan.com are, in fact, calling for heads to roll. For starters, they want the athletic director, Daryl Gross, booted right now (without waiting for the expiration of his contract, which is just over four months off). They are even blaming him for the misspelling of Roosevelt Bouie's name on his framed souvenir jersey presented at yesterday's pre game ceremony; some believe that David Bowie was in fact the honoree.
They are split about whether Jim Boeheim should be forced out; some believe that two NCAA sanctions on one man's watch is an embarrassment to the university, thereby justifying a severing of the relationship, while others are more forgiving and benign towards him, arguing that the city itself would be in far worse financial shape had it not been for the growth and success of the basketball program.
As for the systemic failures that are apparent, the posters are again split. Some argue that it happens everywhere and that SU is no worse than any other big program. They further argue that some programs (notably Duke and Kentucky) get a free pass from the NCAA while other programs are persecuted. Others argue that it is unfair since SU had restructured its program under NCAA ongoing supervision, and that they are still being harassed.
The thing which seems to unite Syracuse fans (besides great antipathy for the NCAA) is that they do have great faith in Kent Syverud as chancellor to institute systems to keep the athletic department from future embarrassment of the university.
I guess we'll just have to wait, like everyone else, with our bags of popcorn until the boom finally gets lowered. Then, we will await a determination of sanctions for North Carolina, which on a proportionality basis should be more severe than is imposed on SU; if, in fact, the NCAA does hit UNC harder than SU, and if both wind up with multi-year sanctions and post-season bans, does the Power 5 look to move away from the NCAA and into a self-governing organization with more flexibility and less regulation? 'Twill be interesting.

'Twill be interesting. Thank you for the synopsis. If Boeheim isn't forced to leave, it's a farce. That said, if they wanted their self-imposed ban to have any validity, they'd have canned their AD already. And the NCAA is notorious for being unfair. However, for SU fans to claim that it's been unfairly harsh towards their university is reason enough for us to continue to make finger painting and coloring jokes. They truly are deluded.

A buddy of mine has been friends with Magoo since childhood and tells me he has no intention of retiring any time soon. His life is Syracuse basketball and he remains fiercely competitive and motivated. Now if you note that he only needs 36 more wins (two seasons) to top 1,000 and be in the same rare air as Coach K, you'd expect him to try his best to hang a few more years. Being from Up State NY myself, Cuse Hoops and Magoo are really the only game in town for hundreds of miles if you're a college basketball fan. I just can't see them forcing him out without a huge fight.

So does that mean that when the NCAA rips some games from his total we will be subjected to even more years of his sunny disposition?

If it meant he would go away now, I would petition the NCAA to add wins...

I really wish the allegations would be specific to some things that can only be placed at Boeheim's feet so that maybe some people around here would finally see what the rest of us see. It won't happen though......orange colored glasses are some of the most difficult to see clearly through.

"If I had nothing to do with any violation..." Guess what, dip - you've been the head coach there for nearly 40 years. You have EVERYTHING to do with EVERY violation. You run the show, you have swept things under the rug and ignored your players' behavior for decades. You have built the program and created the culture that sustains it. Any violation, whether committed directly by you or by someone else, is reflective of that culture. www.syracuse.com/axeman/index.ssf/2015/02/jim_boeheim_ncaa_tournament_suspension.htmlWhat a Editedbag.

I'm amazed that this assclown thinks he can skate because something went awry "in a tutoring situation". Or that he's not sure what exactly the head coach is responsible for. Or that he's whining that this year's team is getting punished for things that happened "years ago". WHO WAS THERE ALL THOSE MANY "YEARS AGO"?!?!?!? Oh yeah, the Editeding Edited coach, that's who.
I don't have enough profanities in my vocabulary to encapsulate the totality of my disdain for this pathetic excuse for a leader and a man.

Wait, "Editedbag" gets edited, but "Edited" doesn't? Sweet.

Of course he's responsible. Then again, what he's whining about this time is a penalty Syracuse imposed upon itself. The NCAA has yet to rule. I mean I know they're stupid there and all but at least whine about something legitimate. Syracuse is penalizing its own team for its sins of the "past" in the hopes of avoiding future penalties. I hope they gambled and lost on both counts.

This is rich. Jim Boeheim is considering doing some broadcasting in March, if the opportunity is offered, since he won't be busy with the Lower Canada Community College basketball team: www.syracuse.com/axeman/index.ssf/2015/02/should_jim_boeheim_be_a_broadcaster_during_the_ncaa_tournament.html#incart_m-rpt-1Maybe it is just me, but it seems akin to a giant middle finger to the NCAA if Boeheim, whose program is under a self-imposed ban for this tournament season, is nonetheless participating (and likely being paid to participate) as an analyst. Then again, maybe I should't be surprised by the depths to which that sewer of a program will plumb.

It might be fun to see the network wonks slobber over a guy who treats them with absolute disdain in virtually every press conference and interview. At the same time, he would have very nice things to say about Georgetown.

Hey, when I was in grad school at Cornell (only 60 miles from Syracuse), the basketball team beat Kentucky, and I believe it was at Kentucky.

They had a very strong team a few years ago, until the coach took the money to run to the basketball abyss at BC.

Rumor on the syracusefan.com site of a Boeheim press conference this afternoon at 3pm. . . .
