Of course we miss them. Like the US misses theUSSR, an inferior godless rival that is the face of evil...

That's true, elvado, but having a school that is representative of the face of evil is great for having passionate rivalries. Is there really an existing Big East Conference opponent that you can envision ever attaining the height of visceral hate that we had with the Orange? I can't, and unless UConn ever makes its way into the Big East, which is admittedly unlikely, I don't believe we'll see it again.
EDIT: Just returned to the syracusefan.com forum. . .that post that was "complimentary" of GU has now been taken down (I suppose by the moderators). Heaven forbid someone express an opinion in Lower Canada that puts anything Blue and Gray in a positive light.
The NCAA can't slap those miscreants hard enough, fast enough.

That's fiction. Everyone knows that more than half of the responses would be, "I was in my cell sharpening my shiv..." That is just unduly harsh. I believe you meant "in my class sharpening my crayons . . ."

The best parts of the syracuse board are the absolute universal indignation that the NCAA would pick on poor little Suckacuse, the righteous insistence that this is no type of black eye for the program, and the contention that the self-imposition of a post-season ban is not in any way an admission of wrongdoing, it is just part of a normal negotiation where you agree to an undeserved punishment just to avoid any possibility of a greater punishment.
Where there is smoke, there is fire. Where there is slime, muck, oozing pestilence and unspeakable filth - there is Syracuse.

Of course, having "attended" Syracuse, Bouie had no idea it was wrong.

Hope they never retire Christmas's number. They would embarrass an entire religion.

Especially when they spelled it "XMAS"

I guess we should be happy that they managed to spell Louis Orr's last name correctly on his framed jersey.

On a related topic - always satisfying to see Magoo screaming at the refs during the last minute of a home loss. He was upset about an illegal screen call on Christmas (a valid call), then a non-call on a trap where the Pitt guy changed his pivot foot at least once if not twice.

It stands to reason ... he spent good money to get those calls.

Is it likely that the NCAA could give a post-season ban for this year so late into the season? I guess they could agree with the self imposed ban but it seems strange that so much time has passed. Same old terrible organization...that applies to Cuse and the NCAA.

I hate speaking up for Syracuse (almost wants me want to wash my typing fingers with disinfectant afterwards), but in the unlikely event we were facing similar penalties from the NCAA, we'd be screaming to the point of apoplexy about the ridiculously long period of time that the investigation (eight years in the making) and post-hearing phase (now up to 114 days and counting) has passed.
It borders on unfair. No, actually, it is unfair.
That being said, notwithstanding what the posters at syracusefan.com believe, I think they are getting a second year of post-season ban, along with a reduction in scholarships and forfeiture of wins. SU didn't want a two-year ban on top of a non-qualification for this season's NCAAs (a likelihood based upon the Orange's present record and remaining difficult schedule), and figure a self-imposed ban of one year moves the calendar up, so as to make the school tournament eligible for the 2016-17 season. Again, just my guesstimate.

Again, just my guesstimate. I generally agree the process takes too long, but Cuse kept committing infractions up until 2012 which kind of flies in the face of their 8 years ago argument. Also, from what's been reported and what I've heard going back years now, the Cuse side has been very contentious throughout the process and has done their part to stall the investigation and prolong the appeal process. The NCAA is definitely a corrupt organization at this point, not everything improper that happens should be reflexively blamed on NCAA incompetence.

Let's also consider that according to knowledgeable reports, Syracuse originally agreed to a number of stipulated facts, then attempted to withdraw its agreement when it believed the NCAA might not be able to conclusively prove them. Thus the delay since the fall hearing is primarily Syracuse's own doing. And its grandstand move in announcing a imposed penalty 3 months after the hearing has perturbed the NCAA and may be causing additional delay.
