Not suggesting we tank the season, just see if two p-layers are worth any further investment if we go to the NIT. Is Thompson really going to learn anything about them in a few NIT games that he doesn't already know? Doubtful. you might be right, he makes his mind up and closes off all other alternatives.

Still not as dumb as suggesting we tank the rest of the reason for the purpose of seeing whether or not Domingo and Hayes will be able to contribute next year. Not suggesting we tank the season, just see if two p-layers are worth any further investment if we go to the NIT. Playing Domingo for 20 minutes a game at this point = tanking the NIT.

Hayes will see some minutes...it looks like JTIII has his mind made up about Domingo...outside of spot duty here or there.

So - how embarrassing is it going to be if (when?) we get whacked by FGCU or Wisc-Green Bay or some other one-bid conference loser? You know that our team, which could not rise to the challenge of beating a pitiful DePaul team in NYC to keep NCAA hopes alive, is going to have no interest in an NIT opener. Getting bounced by another no-name school next Wednesday night is going to be a minor headline in the sports pages, and perpetuate our growing post-season reputation. Wow, this season sucks!

We will play at Maryland in the first round of the NIT. Bank on it. It will be Feinstein's nocturnal emission.

We will play at Maryland in the first round of the NIT. Bank on it. It will be Feinstein's nocturnal emission. They usually don't have 2 major conference teams play that early in the tournament. I can certainly see that for the second, or more likely third, round, but I am not sure we can hold it together that long.

I vote we decline the NIT. Absolutely not. I have no enthusiasm for it, and doubt the players would either, but declining would bespeak an arrogance that should be beneath our program - not to mention it would result in national criticism that would be worse than if we lose a first-round NIT game. I don't like being in the NIT - but we have to suck it up and play. And maybe PR is right after all - maybe we get Hayes, and even Domingo, some run to see how far they have developed this year. We have nothing to lose at this point.

Not to mention we just lost to DePaul and have no right to look down our noses at anything.
Show up; play hard; hope to be better tomorrow than today.
In short, be grown ups about this.
We earned the NIT.

The only thing we can take away by playing in the NIT is that the players would be playing for pride. They came to NYC expecting to win it all, and they looked past DePaul and got beaten. To win the NIT would restore some pride; that's about all.

We earned the NIT. Agree with this completely. The only thing more disappointing to me than the outcome of the season would be to have the team decline to play in the NIT. Basketball players want to play and to the extent we have any who don't I would be surprised.

Starting lineup should be DSR, Jabril, Bowen, Cameron and Hayes. Bench rotation of Hopkins, Domingo, Ayegba, Williams and Allen. Starks, Lubick and Caprio should be wearing suits and consider this the first game of their assistant coaching careers. For those that would argue Starks deserves to play, I would tell him it's not worth the risk of injury, assuming he hopes to play basketball next year.

Don’t understand what the downside is for playing in the NIT. It let's your young guys get more experience and extends your season so more time to practice etc. Pretty obvious we could use the reps..

Even if we lose in the first round of the NIT to a mid-conference team, no results from that tournament are making headlines. We are going and we should. Play hard, fight to win, give everyone minutes. Maybe bench Lubick since he hasn't tried to contribute in a meaningful way all year, Markel still deserves to play with his team that he has fought for.
When are the NIT matchups released? Monday or Tuesday?

Are we sure we are guaranteed an NIT bid? We are just 17-14 overall, with a sub-.500, 7th-place finish in a (maybe) 4 bid league, and just lost to Depaul. With the new selection criteria that favor the mid-majors, I am not positive.

All of the players who hope to return should be in the library and not playing in the NIT unless they are carrying Bs or better in their classes. I'd like to not see a repeat of players flunking off the team and spoiling the season for everyone involved.
