I have to say I am wondering what all the Ater Majok fuss was all about. He looked like Luol Deng without the skill.

Best crowd at the Phone Booth in a while - once it got under 10 everyone was standing and screaming for the rest of the game - constant din on O and D. This helps big time AND THE STUDENTS ARE NOT BACK FROM BREAK YET!

No sure if anyone caught this, but Vitale, as the final seconds are ticking away, says "don't let him take the three." and then prior to robinson throwing the desperation shot, he says, "I would've fouled."
What's the logic here. I think I get it, but it still sounds a bit iffy either way.

So do we go up in the polls? Down? Stay the same? Close loss on the road to Marquette, close win over a ranked uconn at home. There's a lot of movement around the polls with 5 top 10 teams losing this week. 4, 5, 8, 9, 10(12 us), 13, 14, 16, 20, 22 all lost this week. I like to think we move up because despite losing everyone above and behind us also lost and we picked up a top 15 win.

HSB IMO we move up to 10. If we beat marquette we would have been at least to number 8. Top 10 is good though, but then again we are a good team..

What's the logic here. I think I get it, but it still sounds a bit iffy either way. If they fouled on the floor, then the best case scenario / only possible way to tie is to make the front end and then purposefully miss the second AND get the tip in w/ essentially no time left. That's a lot harder to do than make a three pointer. It's obviously risky though, if the foul occurs during a shot, you get the JWall v. Marquette scenario.

But, I disagree with Vitale in that situation. There was no way any of our players would have thought to foul there. There was 5.5 seconds left and it was just a crazy and frenzied play. That's the benefit for Calhoun not to call the timeout. Can you imagine if the cross court pass to Robinson was whistled for a foul with 2-3 seconds left or something. I think its harder to make the 3 there, than to give UConn a free throw and tip in situation with 2-3 seconds left.

What an absolutely amazing game! I'm going to eat a magical brisket hot dog at halftime every time the Hoyas are down. Every bite = a Hoyas basket!! As different a second half as I've ever, ever seen in college basketball. Love these Hoyas. Love 'em. I think this game will be important for the future because it will give us more confidence when we are losing in games. Something that I think is extremely valuable. Knowing they could make a comeback after being down by a substantial margin was definitely something we lacked last year. Being able to look at the clock and be down late in a game and still be able to think, "ok we can do this, we have won games being in a worse situation", is something that made our 07 and 08 team so special. One of the biggest advantages teams have once they go up by 8,10,12 is that it usually creates a seed of doubt in the other teams mind that they can't/won't win. It's an edge that teams never had on those 07/08 teams, which, imo, is what made them so great and achieve so much. Now I am not saying this team has that mentality yet, or that they will be able to acheive the late game greatness of those other teams, because that would be a near impossible feat. I just think this game is a step in the right direction and could possibly pay off down the road.

The game is available for replay on ESPN360 (someone with more know-how than I could perhaps figure out a hack to download the video file): espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/player?gameId=300090046&sportCode=BKThe foul when up three is something some coaches swear by and others won't do (I can't recall off the top of my III's feelings on it). The benefit if you do it right is as TBird spelled out. The problem is that it's not a natural basketball play for a defender, and if the ballhandler sees the defender going for a reach they can go up with the ball and hope to get a three-shot foul. Wallace got a three-shot foul in the game against Marquette but that was just bad defense and not a deliberate foul -- many of their fans after the game didn't understand why Crean didn't set up the foul. Even if III had been screaming at the team to foul, nobody ever got within reach of either Dyson or Robinson.

In terms of scoring, as many have noted, Clark has not contributed as well recently as he did early. Though I missed it at the game, watching the recording at home I noticed that it was Clark's quick, long arm that deflected the pass that Wright intercepted near the end of game.
Shades of Sleepy Floyd in Freeman's wonderful performance. So glad I was able to witness it. (Thanx AVGHoya!)
