Second half: 38 FGA, 19 FGM, 10 Assists... and 2 turnovers. Put a bright circle around the 2 turnovers. That's the difference more than anything else. We put ourselves in a position where we couldn't give any possessions back or force too many shots. The Wright attempted force over Gavin Edwards leading to a run out stuck out as a killer at the time. But, all told, we allowed ourselves to have meaningful possessions in the second half. One adjustment to throw out there is having Monroe on the wing in the zone and Vaughn underneath. Brilliant - JT3 probably saw enough from MU game and the tape to make that change.

WOW! What a game what a comeback!
I'll be honest At half time I almost cried thinking it was all happening again. That this year would be exactly like last year. Wow they sure showed that that would not be the case.
Austin was phenomenal! Completely unreal.
I don't even know what to say. As bad as the first half was that's how good the second half was.
I'm sure it's be mentioned but I love that it's the same exact score of the Roy hibbert 3pter game.
Jerome Dyson finally broke double digits, but was well below his average of 20 pts a game. Dyson has never beat Georgetown. S uck it!
oh and F Roscoe Smith.

The Hoyas didn't come out of the locker room until 3 minutes before the start of the 2nd half. Sitting in the stands, UCONN had been on the floor warming up for several minutes by themselves. Whatever JTIII was saying to them at half time obviously worked

DOn't want to jinx anything, (and not looking at the stats for corroboration), but is it just me or have we cut down on TOs from OOC play? I was really worried this was going to be a year long problem like ORebs were last year. But seems like in the last 4 games, we've been smarter with the ball than we were before.

Good lord, so much to love about this game, Freeman, Monroe (whose performance in the second half left Austin open quite a bit), Wright with the defense, Benimon (I absolutely love him - 4 rebounds in 12 minutes), Vaughn, the lack of Sims, Hollis being aggressive, Clark realizing in the second half that he shouldn't be jacking up threes.
I don't know what JT3 said at half time, but whatever it was, that was amazing coaching. The team came out of halftime fired up - period. JT3 doesn't make plays on the floor but good lord the amount of hustle that was shown at the beginning of the second half was absolutely amazing and that is the type of thing that really can be attributed to coaching. It cannot be said enough - watching these JT3 teams is absolute pleasure compared to watching the late 90's Thompson and Escherick teams that even in victory made you want to tear your hair out. Watching the extra pass being made, the backdoors, the patience to get a good look - it is fun to watch even when the team isn't winning.

At the half, a classmate of mine turned to me and said very confidently, "We'll be better in the second half." At the end of the game, I pointed at him and said, "You were right!"

This game was a character-defining game; you could argue that even if they had lost it at the end, the way GU came back indicates this team is not like last year, who routinely melted away when faced with adversity. The demons of last year's meltdowns against Pitt, Lousville, et all have left the building.
The team has three paramount players - Monroe, Wright, and Freeman, and my view is that depending on the game one or the other will step up and lead the way. That - potentially - makes Georgetown extremely dangerous - hard to plan against, for one thing. And then of course with solid role players such as Vaughn and folks with upside like Clark, Benimon and Thompson - this game changed my view of how far the team can go this year.
Finally - how good was the game? Dick Vitale talked about the actual game for the entire 40 minutes. All sarcasm aside, he was all over Monroe - rightfully - early in the second half, all but cheering him on, calling out times he was open ("They missed Monroe on the back door cut!") and commenting on how well they were using him - ("He should be hitting that gap in the zone - there you go now get it to him ' - 'Thank you!").
I will say the announcing overall was a Hoya lovefest even as UConn had the lead with 55 seconds left.
Back to the game - huge win. Anyone who has ever coached basketball knows that sometimes players come to play more than others - this team has three huge weapons and some other guys with great potential. That doesn't mean they won't lay eggs, but I am thinking this team will give every team on its schedule a real handful.

When UConn made their 22-2 run, wth Robinson running around and jumping over us practically at will, I thought that maybe they are just better than we are.
And then *everything* changed. Shots that didn't drop for us in the first half went in. Shots that went in for them in the first half rimmed out. We got boards. Our zone defense was fantastic. And, of course, *Austin*, Julian, & Chris ("bad Chris" made an appearance on about 3 drives where he unwisely tried to do too much alone, but good Chris was much more in evidence). What seemed impossible actually happened.
Observations: JT2 was courtside on the TV row. Was he on espn, or something else? Ray Allen and another guy who looked like a player sat in the row in front of me, but at halftime they were greeted by VIP staff and led down to the floor. Seemed like the nicest guys in the world.

JT2 was calling radio. They may have sold the bird's nest today - he does not pay when he sits up there.

No need to worry. My wife was kind enough to allow me to make the trip to DC for my only Georgetown game of the year. I will be moving to Europe for 6 months so this will be my only game this year. I will be packing in a whole season and an entire BET into one Saturday afternoon. Let's go Hoyas!!!!!!! Sorry I won't be present to catch up with you, but knowing you will be there to renew your personal hex on Jimmy Calhoun I am now 100% confident we win this game!Congrats on your big success at work too! Let's all give JahidiHoya a BIG HAND for bringing his Jimmy Jinx to today's game! If you are only going to get to one game this year Jahidi, you sure picked the right one!!!

Forgot to mention: half the students didn't bother showing up before game time, and the cheers were badly coordinated all game. I'm starting to think our cheerleaders should actually, you know, lead cheers.
Also, the guy who runs out on the court with the flag wasn't there. Surprisingly lax atmosphere for such a big game. The game itself was so compelling in the second half that it grabbed the crowd's attention, fortunately.

Wow, as someone else said, it's fun to read through all the posts and remember that they're all about the same game.
The turning point did not come when Dyson sat, or when Chris made two baskets at the end of the half. It came (apologies to RosslynHoya) when the big kid in Dress Like a Hoya lumped it when he got a big lead - and the small kid came back to beat him.
EDIT - Oh, and it's great when separate players can truly take over games and it's not just the same person. Double-team one and someone else will beat you.

Great win today! This team has great players and coach but I think the 1 thing lacking has always been someone that wants to take over and lead this team. Thank god AF decided he'd take on that role today. Just have so much confidence in him this year. He has the complete package. I am also happy with the contributions of Hollis and Benimon. They played important roles today. At this point I don't think Sims will see many big minutes.
Now, get in the gym and learn how to finish on a fast break!

aside from freeman and vaughn obviously the best part about this game is the fact that we put that bastard in his place. Showing up to the Verizon Center after committing to UConn, come on

Awesome game so impressed with, Vaughn and Jerelle there rebounding and banging down low is exaclty what we were missing last year. Quality win in the bank which is key for seeding in the tournament. Congrats to all...

IMO, it was a great crowd. And, i'll be honest, i've been to games where there are tons of opponent fans, and there did not seem to be a huge UConn contingent. Trust me, we would have heard them during that huge run.
