Anyone seen this kid play? 17 rebounds/game is impressive.

I have no idea how to evaluate this kid. He could be another Omar/Nikita/Rheese or He could be someone who comes in, works hard for a year or two then starts to contribute.
Seeing how tough it was for Julian Vaughan and Henry Sims to make an impact last year, I am not expecting anything in the short term if/when Benimon arrives.

Hardwoodhoya called this a few days ago I believe. Hmm.. interesting. We need another big atleast for practice, apparently he didn't play aau either? Two commits, two days, neither played aau, apparently the staff is really changing things up a bit. THis leaves two scholarships for the next two years if Monroe doesn't go, one hopefully could go to Williams and another for a Small forward in '10, which is really all we would need now anyways? Sounds good to me.

Hmmmm, Matt Stanmyre is a family friend. I'll see if I can get some extended comments from him.

Can't imagine this bodes well for our chances with Latavious. But, hopefully I'm wrong about that.

I look at is a backup plan. Can't be any worse than NM or OW. Looks like he gets after it.

Don't think this says anything with respect to LW. We have room for both and LW is just waiting for his test results. No way that Benimon is in the top 8 of the rotation whereas LW could compete for a starting position. Benimon's just a big body on a team that badly needs them. 4th team All-Met?! Ugghh.

Exactly. Seems like two "just in case someone starts trippin" type of pick ups.

Who cares if he a 4th Team All Met? This team didn't need a starter IMO or even a first big guy off the bench either. This team needed another big man who could compete.

westend,
that's not a bad thing. III doesn't want to go thru another couple of seasons like this past one. Gotta have contingency plans in this land of milk and honey. I like the additions.

I get more excited about guys like this then supposedly "can't miss" prospects.
We have the teacher/fundamentals preacher/x's and o's guru in JTIII.
if the kid has ability and the willingness to be coached, he has the chance to be a good player.
there MANY kids who fly under the radar, who can play big time D1 basketball.
recruiting isn't what is according to scouts or rivals.com
recruiting is spotting and evaluating talent, on all fronts, to the point there is a good chance you can shape and mold that talent.
if III is signing this kid, he has a chance, imo.

I am OK with filling out the roster, rather than saving schollarships, especially after running a little short on depth the last two years. Kids need time to develope & pick up the system. And it seems that transfers and early departures are a fact of life, unfortunately.
So here's to living for today!
Go Hoyas.

I think it is fair to recognize that not everyone is going to be able to log significant pt when you have 13 scholarships, and recruiting players who are aware of their role (VS) and/or local (JB) to be practice/developmental players is in line with that point of view. It would be nice to be scooping up leftover McDonald's AA's, but right now they just need bodies, and these most recent signings at least have some upside/incentive to stick around for a few years. Then again, we might have thought the same about Wattad/Spann/Thornton (the others at least had some reason to think they should be contributing more based on their press clippings).

LOVE love love this signing. Kid is a great get.
Past 2 days tell me JT3 and staff know exactly what they are doing. Getting very excited for next season (and the one after)!
