They got some payback against the Hoyas last March in NY.
Time to return the favor.

I firmly believe that this game will be much tougher than the uconn game even though that was away and this is home. The reason is that although the huskies have better athletes than almost anyone in the Big East, they are not a great team and the coach, well that deserves no comment. So I believe that this will be a war and a very hard game to pull off. Blair= better than Mr. Thabeet. Young as good or better than Adrien. And the coach, well decide that for yourself, but thats a no brainer. Go Hoyas, let us begin the New Year Wright. I thought if we won one game itd be ok two amazing and three, well no promises but this may be my new typing style forever. That is NOT a promise, just a thought. GO HOYAS.

It's funny, because going into Death Week, I feel like a lot of us (myself included) thought we'd handle ND, probably get Pitt, but UConn was the stretch. Now we're looking ahead to Pitt as though it'll be tougher.
I think it's safe to say we've all learned a degree of humility from coach.
That being said, I hope we see flashes of Big East Tournament 2007. I can still feel the whoosh of air when Aaron Gray skidded past Roy on a "breakaway" by the big man.

We should go after them right from the start just like we did to UCONvicts. Much different type of team, though. Quicker. We don't want to fall into the same trap Calhoun and company did and find ourselves way behind at home. Blair may well be more difficult to handle than Thabeet.
We do owe them big from the BET. Dajuan and Jesse should remind the youngins about this.

Unfortunately Dixon isn't the arrogant type that won't play any zone, this game might break into the 60's but we will see

Pitt's not quicker than UCONN. But they are much, much tougher, more burley, much better rebounders, much more solid on defense, and much more mentally tough. If we hit them with a run, they will not quit. They will try to push us around. Blair will try and bully Greg. Sam will try to exert his dominance over Austin.
They are a tough out, but like Uconn, Pitt has to guard us too. They have a lot of experience with our offense, but they've never seen us in attack mode, which is what they'll see Saturday. Chris, Jessie, Austin and DaJuan as well as Greg all attack the rim off the dribble, and Pitt's even less equipped to handle that than Uconn is. Unless they go zone, Field's can't handle wright off the dribble and Biggs sure can't handle summers. They will outrebound us, but if we can keep it respectable, we have a good shot. Plus, they've beaten us twice in a row. This will definitely be a tough game, but it's definitely winnable.

Pitt has given the Hoyas fits in the past by playing very physical defense off the ball and bumping people off their cuts without getting called for too many fouls. I am hoping that the improved ability to go to the basket and get to the line, especially with Monroe and Wright, will help overcome some of those problems. I see from KenPom that they have been pretty good at minimizing free throw attempts, but UCon has been even better, and this team managed to get to the line pretty consistently in the second half on Monday.

I'm watching the pitt rutgers game on MASN. Rutgers is up 3 early. They are getting to the rim at will against pitt. They're making pitt look slow. I hope pitt wins so they're not Editeded off when they come to town. But chris will be able to drive easily.

I'm watching the same game. Rosario, Chandler and Farmer are having a field day off the dribble. Pitt's looked very susceptible to dirbble penetration. Don't think Rutgers will keep it up, but they're really confirming my suspicions.

Rosario's pretty darn good. Best guard they've had in a while. Better than Douby

Chris has to win his matchup against Fields. If he does that, I think we can get to the rim. Blair is a phenomenal rebounder and strong inside, but if we could attack and score inside on Thabeet, I think we can do so on Blair. I have no clue how adept Blair is at guarding people outside on the perimeter, but hopefully Greg can put pressure on him that way also.
Regardless of whether we win or lose this game, I think we'll look better than we did against Pitt last year. Last year's team had a tendency to settle for outside shots when another team bullied them on the inside. This year, because we can beat people off the dribble, we hopefully won't be as passive as we looked in those games last year.
If we minimize the damage on the boards, I think we've got a good shot.

Short preview relevant for the rest of the year:
If we minimize the damage on the boards, we'll probably win.

The past fews years Pitt has attacked us defensively. The only way you can beat an attacking defense is to attack them on offense. Last year we didn't have the personel that could make you pay for playing that defense. This year we have the ability to go to the rim and counter their defense. We can win this game, but we have to play within ourselves and not let them get into our heads. This is a revenge game, and luckily for us only two players in our rotation weren't on our team for the BET game and everyone else should remeber.
Also it looks like Blair got into foul trouble early, that will be something to watch for Saturday.

I think we see Blair getting into foul trouble can be huge.
Same way with us with Greg.

Who guards Sam Young? I'd be inclined to put Summers on him at all times despite that meaning Austin facing off against Biggs at points. I think Summers' size can bother Young as much as anyone on this team can.
Whoever Biggs is guarding should get the ball a lot as well.

I agree. Put Summers on Young, but honestly, I think Young gets his regardless, he's that good. Dude's going to be a problem for the rest of the Big East. I see Jamie Dixon's given up on chasing Rutgers guards and gone zone. Good move for him.

I wonder if Pitt will start in a zone against us after this game. They couldn't stay infront of Rutgers guards, and I don't see them fairing much better against ours. We are really going to have to be sharp against a two-three zone if we want to beat them.
