Its gonna be tough to have a raucous student section when its winter break and almost no students are around. The rest of the crowd is going to have to pick it up, so get off your asses and make some noise old folks. Will do, youngin'.

Post moved from links thread:I know I'm going to be simply dismissed as an Hibbert apologist for bringing this up, but I must say I find it laughable that the hoyasaxa writeup says, essentially, that Blair shut Hibbert down in the BET Final last season. That wasn't the case considering Hibbert led all Hoyas with around 17 points and was able to score repeatedly in the paint including when Blair was guarding him. To compare Blair's guarding of Roy to what Roy did to Gray in the 2007 Big East Tournament Final is absurd considering Gray was abslutely dominated. Blair pulled down a bunch of boards in the 2008 Final but he was perhaps only the third leading scorer for the Panthers in that game and he did not dominate Roy or the Hoyas. I understand hoyasaxa was looking for an angle but that's not exactly "returning the favor" as it suggests in that piece. Above comment in regard to the pre-game report linked here: www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/bb-gameday0912.htm

I hope there aren't too many Hoya fans out there (read: none) who are using the phrase "Hibbert apologist" to describe other Hoya fans.
Nothing about Roy Hibbert's career at Georgetown requires anything remotely resembling an apology.

KC, thanks for that video in the other thread. I (choke) agree with Steve Lappas that Pitt will have a tough time in only their second road game. We need to hit the boards hard and if so, we have a very good chance to win.

I don't remember this: "Make no mistake, there is no love lost between these two teams. Last year before the game at the Petersen Events Center, there was Handshake-gate -- when Georgetown senior center Roy Hibbert big-timed Pitt freshman DeJuan Blair. "Blair approached Hibbert after the national anthem to shake his hand and wish him luck, but Hibbert walked past him without acknowledging his presence." www.post-gazette.com/pg/09002/939097-175.stm?cmpid=pitt.xmlI believe the author also declared us dead under a previous coaching regime. I believe he also carries the torch against the "basketball onlys."

LEGAL CROSS POST ALERT! I wrote this one for the Hoop Club Blog. guhoyas.cstv.com/genrel/010209aab.htmlIncludes my stories from the 2001 MCI and 2007 BET games and my argument for why GU-Pitt isn't a traditional rivalry but may be the best matchup the BE has going these days.

Johnny come lately Pitt panthers think they can dictate that a founding BE member and the most successful of all the schools in Basketball... the team that essentially MADE the BE with JT, Pat Ewing, 3 Final fours, 6 BETs (now 7) and all the rest should be tossed out on it's rear by those upstarts who've never even reached a Final Four (Have they?) I recall JT3's first BE win... vs. Pitt. in January '05. At THEIR house!

I am also pretty sure Roy did that every game last year, and Summers seems to be following suit this year.

I am really surprised ALOT. We should not be favored by 2.5 points at home. I believe Pitt is a much better TEAM THAN Uconn. I believe we will have to again play an A+ game to beat Pitt tomarrow. We will see. I hearbye promise that if we beat Pitt tommarrow and ND at ND on Monday, I will continue to use appropriate Geogetown spelling, grammer, punctuation, etc. for the rest of the regular season. That will have to end for the Big East tournament and the NCAA's. This has been painful so far but go Hoyas, beat Pitt, and reform this sinner.

The guy who wanted us out of the Big East was Smizik. Incidentally, Panthers fans hate him as well, and I believe he was let go this year.
His column ran right before we beat them at their place, I believe.

Lic, never mind about proofreading the thesis for me - you misspelled "Georgetown". Some habits are hard to break I guess. PS - The way I feel now reminds me of how I felt before the home game against Marquette two years ago. We were JUST getting respect and coming together as a TEAM, but there was a more respected nemesis in town that we had to beat to get over the hump. It was a hell of a game - nip and tuck all the way. But the HOYAS outclassed and outlasted them behind JEFF and ROY to win going away and cement our place in the polls. This Pitt team have so many tools and I got to admit I love their coach Dixon who gets the most from the group he has to work with very impressively. Damn tough game to predict - Gonna come down to virtues rather than experience and talent: WHO CAN PLAY WITH MORE POISE AND HUNGER? THAT team will win. In the end, COME ON HOYAS - NOBODY COMES ONTO OUR COURT AND GOES AWAY WITHOUT A FIGHT -- and a LOSS!! HOYAS win a TOUGH one 64 - 58.

Request - could you modify this proposal until we play Notre Dame? Seems more useful to keep this option available for all key games.
